Broadtube Music ChannelJAAYNS – GO

October 19, 2017by Kolade Olamide0

Tell us your real names, country of birth, date of birth and childhood experience.

My real name is Jayn Oakley and I’m from Leeds, England,  grew up listening mainly to 90s/00s pop, indie, house and garage music.

.

.

.

Tell us about your music career, your band name, musical background, experience and skills.

Started out properly songwriting for other people about 5-6 years ago, I love songwriting so look for any opportunity to do so. Last year I was encouraged to release my own music which resulted in my EP being recorded and independently released this summer.

.

.

.

Tell us about your genre, concept and idea behind your music video and the song.

My music is alternative/Electro-pop but I try not to be too restrictive on the genre and go with where the song wants to go, although I am a sucker for synths, bass and beats 🙂

The tracks on the EP are about different human emotions, personas and perspectives.  Go is the first track on the EP and it’s about the moment before your voice /opinions are able to be properly heard and the frustrations of your views etc being ignored, but you know that it’s about to change to which is kind of empowering 🙂

.

.

.

Tell us everything that we need to know about you as a musician and the ups and downs you have faced in the music business.

I love finding melodic layers in music and how you can get them to layer up but still work with each other, I also love good lyrics, synths and weird low bass noises and sounds 🙂

starting out as an independent can be overwhelming, mistakes and taking bad advice does happen.  Networking and making friends with other artists and bands can really help steer through what to do to help get your music heard and you help support each other.

.

.

.

Tell us about other members of your band, music producer, crew or music video director, how the song was recorded and how the music video was shot.

I’m a solo singer/artist.  The songs on the EP were written originally acoustically then recreated in the studio at Song Mason Studios in Leeds.  My budget is limited as everything is self funded so i try to do as much as I can on my own for now.  I created the video for the track myself at home. I hope in the future to be able to re-record all my videos and do something more creative but for now I’m learning final cut-pro 🙂

.

.

.

Tell us how long you have been in the music industry, your experience and your future goal.

I’ve been actively writing songs for the past 6 years, future goals are to keep creating and writing music and promoting and performing my music for as long as I can and growing a fan base. I’m currently working on some more collaborative tracks and singles, would be cool to work on another EP/Album in the near future to.

.

.

.

Tell us what inspires you to write, compose and sing.

It’s part of who I am and not something I can easily stop.. there are definitely easier careers!

inspiration i guess I love people and like to create something that reflects thoughts, stories, experiences that ive experienced or people around me may have.  I’m also fascinated by music, lyrics and songs so I never find it boring as I’m always learning and wanting to create something new reflecting where I am in life at the point the song is created.

.

.

.

Tell us the secret behind making a hit song.

My favourite songs are normally really simple, with really good melodies that I keep singing along to.  I also like good lyrics but I never really hear the lyrics of a song at first until I’ve heard it a million times and I realise I’ve been making them up, so if they are good lyrics it’s like rediscovering the song all over again 🙂

.

.

.

Tell us the message you will like to pass to your fans out there.

That I would love to hear from them, what do they think of the songs and who are they and where are they from? I would really love to hear from them so get in contact through social media, Facebook, twitter etc and would like to say thank you for listening, liking and sharing my songs it is really really amazing and appreciated that they do 🙂

.

.

.

Tell the kind of advice you will give to an upcoming artist.

If it’s what you want to do keep going and don’t give up, network, keep getting better and keep putting your music out there to be heard, and do something different that you really love. If you don’t love it why should anyone else?

.

.

.

Elaborate on your music careers, albums, songs, tours, recognition or awards you might have obtained.

I wrote and recorded my debut EP last year and it went on general release in August, I am currently working on a live set to hopefully start touring in the new year.

I have had air play on BBC Introducing West Yorkshire, BBC 6 Music by Mr Tom Robinson which was really cool. I’ve also had three songs featured on Best of British Unsigned and came 3rd in the best Electro category on Radio Wigwams online awards in August.

.

.

.

List Radio or TV Stations that are airing your songs and blogs that have featured you as well and send message to them via this platform.

I’ve had loads of support from independent music blogs and radio stations which has been amazing including – The Matt Barker podcast, Russ Evans show on Ridge Radio, Artefactor Radio, OFI Monday, Radio Wigwam, Radio Coolio to name just a few.

Blogs have been really supportive too including Divide and Conquer music reviews and Love Music Love Life.com and this one of course! Thank you! 🙂

.

.

.

Tell us how you write your lyrics, compose, sing and record in the studio.

No set way, tend to have banks of lyric ideas and part written songs in my notes on my phone or melody ideas recorded which I’ve recorded when they arrive in my head. I then have something to work on when I’m properly sitting down to write. I really love writing in the studio as we have access to tons of beats, sounds and instruments.

.

.

.

Name five biggest artists that you look up to like idols.

Love Banks, David Bowie, Bjork, Massive Attack, London Grammar.

.

.

.

Name the artists you have collaborated with before in your songs or artists you are willing to collaborate with in the future if you have the chance to do so.

Most of my current songs are collaboratively written and produced with Leeds based producer Song Mason

I have a current collaboration with DJ/Producer: Green Valdener called The Wrong Ones. Track went on general release 4th October and was really cool to work on.

Love co-writing as different people can make my music go in different directions which I find really interesting so open to work with writers, artists, producer, DJ to see what could be created, so if you would like to collaborate please get in contact, that would be amazing.
