Tell us your real names, country of birth, date of birth and childhood experience.

My name is Casey Truman. I’m from Nashville, TN. I was born and raised in a musical family, watching and learning from my dad and his successful country band, Diamond Rio.

Tell us about your music career, your band name, musical background, experience and skills.

I’ve been writing music since I was 16 and have done stints as a solo act and as part of a rock band but it wasn’t until I started Halfway Hero that I found my calling. I am the only true member of Halfway Hero. I write and sing all the songs. I also play guitar and piano where needed. Most of the songs I write are meant to inspire and uplift people. The biggest one with this purpose is “It’s Not Too Late.” The main message of the song is that it’s not too late to be who you could’ve been, or in other words it’s not too late to follow your dreams and to change your life. Basically Halfway Hero is my way of saying, “I’m only halfway there and maybe you are too but that’s OK. We can both change for better and do more with our lives.”

Tell us about your genre, concept and idea behind your music video and the song.

In general terms my genre is pop, but inside of that there are a lot influences. There’s rock, punk, and even a little soul. At the end of the day I just try to write super catchy and inspiring songs.

The concept and idea behind my song “Take Me Away” is actually spiritual. I had felt that my relationship with God was struggling and that I needed Him to rescue me from the trials I was going through. Thus I wrote this song asking him to ‘take me away’ from it all. Of course I made the song so it could be about a girl too, because a girlfriend or spouse can also serve as a rescuer when life gets hectic.

Tell us everything that we need to know about you as a musician and the ups and downs you have faced in the music business.

As a songwriter I’ve had to face a lot of rejection and scorn, even from my own father who does music for a living. Of course it never feels good to hear someone tear down something you put your heart into but when my own dad discouraged me from pursuing music it really stung! I was hurt and confused for awhile but eventually I realized that it doesn’t matter what anyone thinks, even my own dad, I’m going to do music because I know my songs are beyond myself. They’re meant for helping other people.

Tell us about other members of your band, music producer, crew or music video director, how the song was recorded and how the music video was shot.

All of the recording and production for “Take Me Away” was done by myself and my engineer, Nate Young. Nate is a extremely talented producer, drummer, guitarist, and do-it-all guy. Our process usually begins with me bringing in a new song, putting down a scratch take of it on an acoustic guitar, and building the drums, bass, electric guitars, vocals, and everything else from there. Of course there’s a lot of adjustments as we go. For example on “Take Me Away” the original intro we had was an organ! It was bad haha I was so happy when we came up with the acoustic intro because it really made the whole song crescendo.

Tell us how long you have been in the music industry, your experience and your future goal.

I’ve been around the music industry since I was born due to my dad’s band so I’ve always been exposed to it. But as for my personal experience writing and playing it’s been about 4 or 5 years. My big future goal is to get a Billboard Hot 100 hit. My small goal is to get over 200k subscribers and over a million video views on YouTube. I know exposure is the key to success and YouTube is a crucial platform for my music.

.

Tell us what inspires you to write, compose and sing.

What inspires me to write are the hardships I’ve gone through and the lessons I’ve learned throughout my life. The subject matter comes from my relationships, depression, anxiety, failures, successes, and optimism to move forward.

Tell us the secret behind making a hit song.

For me I think a hit song has a catchy melody and a message people can relate to. People want to find something in a song that makes them feel good and that’s what those two elements can do.

Tell us the message you will like to pass to your fans out there.

For the fans I have out there I would say thank you for your support. I hope my music brings some kind of good into your life and I want to hear about it someday.

Tell the kind of advice you will give to an upcoming artist.

Self-evaluate often. Confidence and self-belief are great but you’ve got to continuously improve and take stock of where you’re at. Only you can beat you. If you keep working something will eventually give.

Elaborate on your music careers, albums, songs, tours, recognition or awards you might have obtained.

My music career is at the outset but I believe it won’t be long before it blooms. I released my first single “Take Me Away” in September of this year and I’m busy recording the rest of the album, which will be released in February. I play a lot in Utah where I’m based but I also have a growing YouTube channel.

Tell us about your happiest day and saddest day.

One of my saddest days was the passing of a dear friend in high school. He was such a good-hearted person and it made no sense why he was suddenly taken. Later on I realized that God has a plan for all of us, even if we don’t always understand it quite yet.

One of my happiest days was completing my college undergraduate degree. It felt so good to be done with school and to have accomplished something I worked so hard for.

Tell us how you will spend a million dollars.

The first thing I would do with a million dollars is pay off my debts and loans. After that I would buy a nice house, a quality car, and other essential nice things. Then once I was established I would go to Mexico for a month.
