Tell us your real names, country of birth, date of birth and childhood experience.

Mark Swink and Kalista. I (Mark Swink) was born in Price, Utah (United States). Kalista was born in Salt Lake City, Utah (United States). I (Mark Swink) grew up listening to my mom singing Richard Marx. I loved listening to her sing. It for sure grew on me. I started playing guitar around the age of 9. All in all my childhood led me to my future investments in music.

Tell us about your music career, your band name, musical background, experience and skills.

I (Mark Swink) really dove into music and writing when I was 15 years old. I remember recording and writing on GarageBand consistently. Eventually, I moved up to Salt Lake City, Utah and met some dudes who needed a bassist. I ended up playing bass for them for a few years. During that time I was learning more about producing and writing music in general. Now, I just keep on writing, producing, performing, and enjoying it. Music is whatever you want it to be. Whatever makes YOU feel good. Singing has always been something that took time for me to understand but, like they say “practice makes perfect”. My band name is just my name “Mark Swink”. “Kalista” is Kalista’s band name.

Tell us about your genre, concept and idea behind your music video and the song.

(Mark Swink) The genre of the song is mainly hip-hop/pop I would say. When producing “Heart Attack Beats” I felt a bright vibe but, darker lyrically. Me and Kalista collaborated on another song called “Fake Eyes” which kind of has a similar sound to this song. I love working with Kalista. I vibe well off of her. Lyrically the song has to do with giving your full attention/energy to someone you loved/trusted but, in the end they took you for granted. Most people I know can relate to this song.

Tell us everything that we need to know about you as a musician and the ups and downs you have faced in the music business.

(Mark Swink) To make it short. I am a very open person. I think music can be anything you want it to be. I don’t believe there is a right or wrong with music. Music is what should make YOU happy. Yes, it’s nice when you make others happy too. But, make sure you love doing it for yourself before others. Music adds to my creativity. Music has given me a voice. Music has been my meditation through what we call “rough times”. All I can say is, enjoy what you are creating in that moment. Because I believe that is all you truly have. I am very thankful to have music in my life, and to be alive at a time with so many tools to create music. Music is endless. There is always ups and downs with music. It has taken me months to write music. I recommend just letting it happen. Relax, and don’t put too much pressure on yourself. ENJOY IT.

Tell us about other members of your band, music producer, crew or music video director, how the song was recorded and how the music video was shot.

(Mark Swink) Kalista is a good friend of mine. Like I said, we vibe really well when we write music together. I produced the song. I am still learning, and I love every moment of it. Kalista played a big part in this song. She is a lyrical genius in my opinion. One of the brightest individuals I have met. I can’t wait to see where her musical career takes her.

We wrote and recorded the song in my room actually. Just a small apt. room. We both were having some difficulties with relationships at the time. That really helped us create the instrumental aspect of this song. Also, helped us write the lyrics. The song both means a lot to us.

Tell us how long you have been in the music industry, your experience and your future goal.

(Mark Swink) I have been doing music since I was about 15 years old. I am 24 years old now. It’s been my whole existence really. Being able to create and hear music is what I feel makes me as an individual. I hope in the future I am able to have more listeners. I hope one day my music will elevate peoples days. Give them some excitement for their day. I’d love to tour as well. I would also love to keep producing more artists and create connections by doing what I love.

.

.

.

Tell us what inspires you to write, compose and sing.

(Mark Swink) Other artists inspire me to write. I love all types of music. Melodies are in the air, you just need to grab them. I love just messing with sounds and eventually meshing the other art pieces together. There is so much out there with music. Like, I have said before. It’s endless.

.

Tell us the secret behind making a hit song.

(Mark Swink) There is no secret in my opinion. I don’t believe there is this “hit” song. We have created a stereotype with music. I believe any song can be a hit. All that matters is if you enjoy the song. That’s the whole point of music. It’s enjoying that moment. Enjoying the music. Being in the sound. No competition. Be open, don’t put other artists down.

.

.

.

Tell us the message you will like to pass to your fans out there.

(Mark Swink) Be true to yourself with music. Never think your wrong when writing or producing a song. What might seem wrong to you might seem right to someone else. Be open with music. Don’t put other artists down. ENJOY the moment while writing or listening to music. Music is your experience. Don’t be afraid to be proud of what you have created. You will have people who will love your song and you will have people who hate your song. We are all different. We like different genres. THAT’S OKAY. Let music take you to where it wants you to be. Relax, and make sure to have fun. ALWAYS. Music is not a competition.

Tell the kind of advice you will give to an upcoming artist.

Elaborate on your music careers, albums, songs, tours, recognition or awards you might have obtained.

(Mark Swink) I have been in bands before, but this is my first time being solo. This is just the beginning of my career. More to come! I do have a lot of music available you can check out on Soundcloud, Spotify, and Apple Music. Just type in “Mark Swink” and you’ll find more music I have recorded and produced.

Tell us how you write your lyrics, compose, sing and record in the studio.

(Mark Swink) It’s random. Sometimes lyrics come first. Sometimes lyrics come while writing and recording the song. Sometimes the lyrics will be after the production of the song is finished. I never really have a plan. I just flow with it.

Tell us about your happiest day and saddest day.

(Mark Swink) That’s a tough question hahaha. I will just say one of my happiest days of my existence is when I created my first song. I remember listening to it like 100 times that whole day. I was stoked.
My saddest day so far in my existence, is probably when I realized how short my existence is. It isn’t bad, just makes you enjoy the moments of your existence.

Tell us how you will spend a million dollars.

(Mark Swink) HAHAHA. I would save a portion of that money and donate the rest of the money to people who need it more than me.
