Tell us about your music career, your band name, musical background, experience and skills.

Everyone in the band, Teri Mantere & the Manta Rays, has extensive experience from the last decade in several bands, and in performing in Finland and around Europe, Asia and all the way in Australia! As this group they have only performed in Finland so far.

.

Tell us about your genre, concept and idea behind your music video and the song.

Our genre is alternative, but many styles are referred to throughout our music. The idea for our music video is great, but sadly, it is yet to be executed. The idea for this song was mainly to have 4 slightly weird but funky chords, and a bunch of questions in poetic form.

Tell us everything that we need to know about you as a musician and the ups and downs you have faced in the music business.

Teri is a multi-instrumentalist and singer. A lot of his musicianship is coloured by his background living in both Australia and Finland at different stages growing up, and learning music along the way.

.

.

Tell us about other members of your band, music producer, crew or music video director, how the song was recorded and how the music video was shot.

Other members of the band, Antti, Esko, and Juhana are all incredibly versatile musicians who all play in several bands with a wide range of styles from pop to jazz and even children’s music.

This song, Questions, was basically recorded live, with only the saxophone solo taken down at a later date. The recording was done in a studio in the attic of an hundred year old house in the Finnish countryside.

As stated above, our music video remains, sadly, unshot.

.

Tell us the secret behind making a hit song.

To be honest, Teri is not that interested in writing a hit song. Teri has nothing against hit music, per se, but his interest is more in writing music, which stems from inspiration, and hoping to find a connection with people. This has proven a slow road to finding an audience, but is still an interesting and ongoing experiment.

The idea is to make music that needs intensive listening, calming down, taking time, to be an alternative to instantly rewarding and obvious music in which the intro is 10 seconds, the first chorus is at the 30-60 second mark, and the duration 3 minutes at the longest.

.

Tell the kind of advice you will give to an upcoming artist.

Think of what you want to achieve and hold on to, and don’t let yourself be molded so you don’t recognize yourself anymore.

.

.

.

Elaborate on your music careers, albums, songs, tours, recognition or awards you might have obtained.

Teri has performed his music in small clubs, large concert halls, country barns, the Finnish Presidential Palace, clubs and local radio in Sydney, Australia, to name a few things.
