YOUNGS

Tell us your real names, country of birth, date of birth and childhood experience.

My full name is Krysta Youngs.  This is my first project as “YOUNGS”. I was born in Flint, Michigan USA on Jan 12th. I’m an only child and my parents always encouraged my music.  I started playing piano at the age of 4 and the rest is history.

Tell us about your music career, your band name, musical background, experience and skills.

I’ve been doing music for as long as I can remember.  I attended Berklee College of Music in Boston, MA.  After college I moved to Nashville for about a year and a half…co-wrote my ass off and performed like crazy and then moved to LA.  I’ve been here ever since. YOUNGS is my last name.  My producer actually suggested I get rid of my first name.  People know “Krysta Youngs” as a songwriter so I decided to separate my artistry from my writing persona.

.

Tell us about your genre, concept and idea behind your music video and the song.

Genre- “out the Box pop”

In the video I’m about to get abducted by my magical love alien interest.  At the end of the video it looks like I dreamed the whole thing up but I’m holding on to my crystal necklace that was once around my neck.  He got under my skin… I want him to come back but he’s nowhere to be found.

Tell us everything that we need to know about you as a musician and the ups and downs you have faced in the music business.

I don’t quit.  “No” means “not yet” and I’m not afraid of failing because that just means I’m one step closer to succeeding. I’ve learned that no one cares as much about your career as you do so it’s important to really believe in what you do.  People can feel that shit. Put out good vibes and you get them back.  The music industry is hard because you have people critiquing your honest experiences and they want to edit them to fit a pop mold. There were times where I just wanted to give up.  But, I’m a lifer… there’s nothing else I’m good at.

.

.

.

Tell us about other members of your band, music producer, crew or music video director, how the song was recorded and how the music video was shot.

UMS was produced by Bert Elliott (One Republic) mixed and mastered by Yan Perchuk and co-written by Robin Ghosh.  The video, directed and shot by Breezy Baldwin, features my good friend Laganja Estranja. We shot the video in the middle of nowhere outside of LA with a crew of my friends and a case of beer (they drank it… I’ve been sober for 2 years). Lol.

.

.

.

Tell us how long you have been in the music industry, your experience and your future goal.

I’ve been doing this professionally for about 10 years. I’ve had a lot of different experiences in many different facets of the industry (singing / writing for other people / writing for toy companies / Sync placements etc.  I want to have a #1 hit song in America by the end of this year 🙂

.

.

.

Tell us what inspires you to write, compose and sing.

Personal experience and my melodramatic personality.  I tend to feel a lot and when I feel like I’m going to burst I write a song.

.

.

.

Tell us the secret behind making a hit song.

Honesty and HOOKS, HOOKS, HOOKS. Every part of the song should be memorable.

.

.

.

Tell us the message you will like to pass to your fans out there.

Anything is possible.  Dream big.  You get what you expect.

.

.

.

Tell the kind of advice you will give to an upcoming artist.

Always be authentic.  People always see through the bullshit.

.

.

.

Elaborate on your music careers, albums, songs, tours, recognition or awards you might have obtained.

I charted on Billboard last year with a song I wrote and sang called “Habit” that Rain Man produced.  I’ve spent the last 4 years in Los Angeles writing with other songwriters for and with artists and DJ’s like Christina Aguilera, Philip Lawrence (Bruno Mars), Taeyeon, The Disco Fries, Marshmello, Lennon.  YOUNGS is my first project in three years 🙂

Tell us how you write your lyrics, compose, sing and record in the studio.

I always start with a concept or title.  If I can see the music video in my head I know I’m golden. I usually start with the hook and go from there.  And I record and vocal produce all my vocals myself in my studio!
