Tell us about your music career, your band name, musical background, experience and skills.
Our band name was chosen to reflect the diversity of styles we write in. Our first song was a country song and as songwriters we decided to remain as diverse as we wanted. As artists, we have tried to focus our genre a bit more but we still want to create and celebrate cross genre songs.

KATYA DIAZ has toured Europe, America and Mexico singing background and/or dancing for numerous artists including Passion Pit, Thalia, Alejandro Sanz and Beyoncé. As a vocalist for Snarky Puppy’s Family Dinner DVD she had the honor of singing backgrounds for Lalah Hathaway’s Grammy winning live performance of “Something”. Officially songwriting for only 4 years now Katya wrote the national commercial for JC Penny’s 2015 spring campaign and collaborated with acclaimed writers such as Itaal Shur and Stuart Matthewman.

CHRIS HIERRO has been writing and producing Latin music from an early age and has worked with many popular artists including Leslie Grace, Eli Jas and Prince Royce. He has also performed and toured as a keyboardist and background vocalist for some of Latin music’s most legendary stars such as Jerry Rivera, Obie Bermúdez and multi Grammy Award winner Alejandro Sanz. Chris Hierro reached the #1 position of the Billboard Tropical Airplay charts writing & producing the hit “We never Looking Back” for bachata artist Toby Love featuring French Montana. Aside from his work in Latin music, Chris also scored the Indie critically acclaimed Action/Comedy film “Full Circle” (E One Entertainment) and continues to work closely with director Solvan “Slick” Naim on his upcoming film and TV projects.

Tell us about your genre, concept and idea behind your music video and the song.
We like to mix it up with our musical influences, hence the name of the group. The song “Next to Me” is a mix of several things we like. We were sort of inspired by the kind of music that mainstream artists were making at the time and how they fused their styles with African/ Island rhythms. The song is about being caught up, be it with gaining material possessions or with the search for new information and knowledge and loosing this sort of child like ability to be in the moment. It’s a reminder to give importance to love those around us (family members, significant other). The video shows this in a very simple way as we take on different colors and masks through out even as we lay right next to one another. A reminder not to let what’s important fall through the cracks and that our disagreements don’t have to separate us.

Tell us everything that we need to know about you as a musician and the ups and downs you have faced in the music business.
This question would take 3 days to answer, lol. We are both professional musicians/singers and we have been doing this for a very long time. Yet here we are, living in a small apartment in Brooklyn, NY putting out music every chance we get. Doing production gigs, jingles, often singing covers to pay the bills. There are moments you get your hopes up and things fall through. It’s all part of the journey. You really have to love what you do as cliche as it sounds, because you often don’t get recognized for the hours and hours of hard work it takes to put forth your art. Your heart and soul is exposed and people won’t get it, people won’t listen….. and yet you must persist. Being a creator isn’t for the faint of heart. We have seen this business chew people up and spit them out. You had to embrace every aspect of the process and it’s not all applause. When there is nothing that makes you happier than sharing your stories that’s when you know you won’t quit. Cuz you just can’t imagine life without it.

Tell us about other members of your band, music producer, crew or music video director, how the song was recorded and how the music video was shot.

Chris produces all our music and we write the songs together. We shot most of our videos ourselves with an iPhone 7, with the exception of “Curves into Grooves” which was done by the awesome Solvan ‘Slick’ Naim. We have a wonderful friend Ricardo Ramos who helps with mixing the records when he can and plays in the band when in town.

.

Tell us how long you have been in the music industry, your experience and your future goal.

Tell us how you write your lyrics, compose, sing and record in the studio.
It happens in different ways. Katya is constantly writing songs and lyrics. Her phone is filled with voice notes and memos which we later come together to pick our favorites and then we demo them. Sometimes those demos become fully produced songs which we later release, sometimes they stay as demos. Other times Chris will come up with melodies (tracks) which we later sit and write songs to. It all depends on how we’re feeling. We record everything here with the exception of the guitar and bass tracks which usually are done in the musicians’ respective studios. The guitarist who plays on all our records is Ricky Strings Ramos, he also mixed 4 of our singles. He is really amazing at what he does. Chris sends him the fully recorded songs and Ricky gives them that finishing professional polish.
