Tell us your real names, country of birth, date of birth and childhood experience.

DENNY is Alexander Rollins, Randon Nelson and Sully. All born between 1989 and 1991 in Minnesota, USA. We mostly grew up in the upper middle class suburbs having quintessential suburban lives.

Tell us about your music career, your band name, musical background, experience and skills.

Sully and Alexander met as freshman in college and started a band that ended up touring, releasing two records and playing major festivals. After that dissolved, they formed DENNY — named after Alexander’s father. All three members have extensive musical backgrounds. Rollins has been writing songs since he was a child.

Tell us about your genre, concept and idea behind your music video and the song.

We don’t want to be bound to a genre. We love INXS and Queen as much as we love Childish Gambino and Milo. Our goal is to mesh all of those influences into one and make something fresh and new. Girls Like You is our first step in that direction.

Tell us everything that we need to know about you as a musician and the ups and downs you have faced in the music business.

When we were 19, our first band failed. Sully was living out of his car and we spent months touring, losing money, and sleeping in a van. We’ve seen our hopes and dreams dissolve right in front of us a few times, but that’s never stopped us from creating together.

Tell us about other members of your band, music producer, crew or music video director, how the song was recorded and how the music video was shot.

We’re a trio, an art collective of sorts. We work very fluidly and all play a number of instruments. The song was recorded with Eric Palmquist in Los Angeles in March.

Tell us how long you have been in the music industry, your experience and your future goal.

We’ve been in the industry, in some capacity, since 2010. DENNY is the band I always wished existed, but never has. So I am creating the band I always wanted to be my favorite band.

Tell us what inspires you to write, compose and sing.

Conversations and memories, mostly. I am very nostalgic. I spend a lot of time reminiscing. Not because I am stuck in the past, but because the past is informative.

Tell us the secret behind making a hit song.

Melody. But, in today’s world it seems like it’s 10% who you know and 90% being able to rip someone else off creatively.

Tell us the message you will like to pass to your fans out there.

We’re not going to disappear again.

Tell the kind of advice you will give to an upcoming artist.

Even though it may seem like a good idea, shirk trends. Do your thing even if it isn’t easy to get there. Be unique, don’t just copy what’s popular on instagram. It may work but it doesn’t lay the foundation of a career.

Name five biggest artists that you like.

Tears for Fears, Frank Ocean, Bon Iver, Queen and Milo.

Name the artists you have collaborated with before in your songs or artists you are willing to collaborate with in the future if you have the chance to do so.

I’d love to collaborate with Milo.

Happiest day: too many to count

Tell us how you will spend a million dollars.

I’d buy a house in the country and give the rest away.
