Laure Z

Tell us your real names, country of birth, date of birth and childhood experience.
My real name is Laure Zaehringer!! Sounds very German cause I’m from a small town in France called Strasbourg, that is located at the border with Germany!

I was born on October 14th 1990.

Childhood experience…mmh not sure what exactly is asked so I’ll say that I started to play piano at the age of 5, and singing and writing songs not long after that! I was a very independent kid, wanting to do it all by myself aha 🙂 I had a happy childhood!

Tell us about your music career, your band name, musical background, experience and skills.

From 5 years old on, I was caught up with music.

After my high school graduation, I studied jazz at the IMEP in Paris for three years, before auditioning for the Berklee College of Music and getting a scholarship to study there. So I moved to Boston and graduated three years later.

After my graduation, I decided to move to Los Angeles to pursue my career, and started to play gigs around town, performing jazz shows and also my original work.

I recently did a Kickstarter to support the making of my first EP “Girls Don’t Wait” that will be out next month, and that was recorded with a 25 piece orchestra in some of LA’s top studios.

Tell us about your genre, concept and idea behind your music video and the song.

I think that during all my years of music study, I had the chance to explore many genres of music. It’s hard to define my style, because it’s a blend of jazz, pop, singer-songwriter storytelling, but the whole thing orchestrated. I loved the sound of an orchestra, and it has always been in my projects to record my music with one.

Tell us everything that we need to know about you as a musician and the ups and downs you have faced in the music business.

Ahaha everything you need to know… well, I am a very old school musician 🙂

I like acoustic, I like how someone can make an instrument sound so beautiful, and how they will all blend together in some magnificent harmonies, supporting some powerful melodies, with  stories being told. I listen to a lot of oldies, whether it’s Ella Fitzgerald or the Rolling Stones or Neil Young.

As far as the music business matter goes, I must say it’s hard to be an independent artist who doesn’t really try to fit the mold in today’s world.

It’s hard not to have a team of people behind you, helping you to take all the needed steps in your career and having all the resources for you to use.

You have to support your project yourself and find the resources yourself, get exposure etc;

But when you do though, it’s really rewarding and it’s a great feeling.

Tell us about other members of your band, music producer, crew or music video director, how the song was recorded and how the music video was shot.

The song “I Will Follow You” is a song I wrote a few years ago, but had never recorded nor done anything with it really.

2 years ago, I gathered a few people I wanted to work with, including my music director and orchestrator Jonathan A. Hughes, and my executive producer, Ed Goodreau.

When we discussed the making of the EP, we listened to this song that I had a demo of, and all thought that it was catchy, it was a chill vibe song with the whistle etc, and we decided to have it part of the EP.

We recorded the rhythm section at The Village Studios in Los Angeles, then the orchestra at “No Excuses Studio”, and finished with the vocal at “Civil Defense Music Studio” in Santa Monica.

This song could’ve gone many ways, more pop, more rock but we stuck to our first idea with the orchestra, to keep that fresh and unique kind of sound.

But other versions might be done.. we never know 😉

.

Tell us how long you have been in the music industry, your experience and your future goal.

I’ve been in the music industry for the past three years!

I’ve been mainly playing shows, recording my EP, recording for other people, producers etc, teaching vocals, and also recording for TV and film works!

One of my goals would be to be a little more involved in film music, whether writing songs for films, or singing on film scores.

I also want to play my music with full orchestras 🙂 Dream.

.

Tell us what inspires you to write, compose and sing.

It’s really like wanting to go pee really bad you know.

I’m sitting there doing nothing, or watching TV or sometimes talking to someone, and there’s a musical line that comes to my head, or a phrase, or a story idea and I go from there.

For the singing, it just moves me to sing. And it makes me want to share it with the world.

Tell us the secret behind making a hit song.

List Radio or TV Stations that are airing your songs and blogs that have featured you as well and send message to them via this platform.

No radio stations yet, gonna pitch it this coming week.

The song has been premiered last Thursday on the blog “Imperfect Fifth”, and I’m about to be featured on the blog Middle Tenessee Music!

.

Tell us how you write your lyrics, compose, sing and record in the studio.
It really depends!!

Either I think of a story I want to tell, and start randomly playing what inspires me while thinking of it and it builds from there or the opposite, I have a melodic line that comes to me or chords and see what it inspires me lyrically!!

Tell us about your happiest day and saddest day.

That’s such a hard question!!!

Probably happiest day would be on Christmas, when I’m reunited with my whole family, celebrating and my hometown is so beautiful at this time of the year!! (And the food…..oh. The food is amazing.)

Saddest day… mhh… probably when I lost my grandfather. I was the music figure of the family and he really left a big hole in my life.

Tell us how you will spend a million dollars.

I would surround myself with the best of the best in the music industry and record an album with a full orchestra at Abbey Road!!

The rest of the money would go to animal rights 😉
