JOCKS

Tell us your real names, country of birth, date of birth and childhood experience.

Barrett Jacques – Nashville, TN (USA) – January 1991. My childhood was a mixture of guitar hero and zelda.

Tell us about your music career, your band name, musical background, experience and skills.

We started making pop music in 2016 after several years of playing folk/country/rock/nonsense under a couple different band names.  We’ve played on a tour of summer camps, songwriter festivals and other dates, but are mostly playing (or mostly writing) in Nashville at the moment.

.

.

.

Tell us about your genre, concept and idea behind your music video and the song.

We’re inspired by the sounds and songwriting of the 80s and modern pop.  The idea was to be a fun pop band that doesn’t take themselves too seriously and works relentlessly to make catchy hooks and sweet grooves.

.

.

.

Tell us everything that we need to know about you as a musician and the ups and downs you have faced in the music business.

We’ve played openings stages at huge festivals to less-than-tiny bars in the middle-of-nowhere Pennsylvania. We’ve had a major label deal and rehearsals in 8th-floor, 100-sqft dorms. Yes, some ups, but let’s be honest, many less ups than downs.

.

.

.

Tell us about other members of your band, music producer, crew or music video director, how the song was recorded and how the music video was shot.

We have a drummer – Phil Haas, who also helps produce the music.  The other members are Reid Huffman – Bass and Brandon Dockery – Guitar.

.

.

.

Tell us how long you have been in the music industry, your experience and your future goal.

We’ve been playing together as JOCKS for a little over 1 year and we hope to open for Justin Bieber.

.

.

.

Tell us what inspires you to write, compose and sing.

Justin Bieber. No really, I want songs as stuck in your head as ‘What Do You Mean’ and drops as banging as ‘Where Are U Now’. Yes, I write from the heart, but get real, most people’s lives are boring as crap, mine sure is. Music is a chance to escape that and make something that just feels so good. Gives you a chance to dance and smile and act like a sexy fool.

.

.

Tell us the secret behind making a hit song.

I’ll never tell you…because I probably will never know.

.

.

.

Tell us the message you will like to pass to your fans out there.

We love you, come talk to us!

.

.

.

Tell the kind of advice you will give to an upcoming artist.

It’s a lot of work to make a career in music, be prepared to be on the grind and just keep going!

List Radio or TV Stations that are airing your songs and blogs that have featured you as well and send message to them via this platform.

Let me get back to you on that one…when a radio station does air our songs. There are few smaller blogs who have featured us…but I’ll also have to check back on those too…

.

.

.

Tell us how you write your lyrics, compose, sing and record in the studio.

I write lyrics very freestyle, if that makes sense. I want it too sound good first, both sonically and emotionally. The story doesn’t have to be complex, doesn’t have to be personal, doesn’t even have to make sense at all times. Abstract is almost always better than too direct. The music and the lyrics can never be separate. Well, I guess they can, but I don’t think they should. Flow is the biggest factor in being a good songwriter, in my opinion. And when I sing in studio, I depend on feedback. Everybody thinks they’re awesome at everything, especially singing…until you hear it played back to you. Always take criticism on your singing, from everybody.

.

Name five biggest artists that you like.

The 1975, Carly Rae Jepson, HAIM, Lionel Richie, Paul Simon and Justin Bieber!

.

.

.

Name the artists you have collaborated with before in your songs or artists you are willing to collaborate with in the future if you have the chance to do so.

Would love to collaborate with Pitbull – he just cranks out the hits.

Tell us about your happiest day and saddest day.

Happiest day is whenever we get to be in the studio creating new music.

Saddest days is all other days.

.

.

.

Tell us how you will spend a million dollars.

Building our own studio and setting up a label would be super cool. Creating a pop star factory like they do in South Korea would be amazing. Did we mention we’ll retire as soon as we have an Asia tour? That would be the pinnacle of our career.
