Tell us your real names, country of birth, date of birth and childhood experience.

Blind Sparrow is Zach Pino (guitars/bass), Sam Spainhower (vocals), Taso Comanescu (guitars), Aliyar Kinik (drums/percussion) and Austin Grant (guitars/bass).

We’re currently based in Los Angeles, California.

Tell us about your music career, your band name, musical background, experience and skills.

We all come from diverse musical backgrounds and we landed on the name Blind Sparrow mainly due to legal reasons (we were threatened with a silly lawsuit by a certain tribute band due to our original name). Some of us have formal musical training, while others are self-taught. We like to think that our wide range of influences and backgrounds result in a varied and unique sound.

.

.

.

Tell us about your genre, concept and idea behind your music video and the song.

“Behind the Seen” is an upbeat and funky hard rock tune that’s about the need to step away from our digital cultures from time to time. Its easy to get caught up in the screens that surround us every day, and it’s important to disconnect and appreciate more important aspects of life.

.

.

.

Tell us everything that we need to know about you as a musician and the ups and downs you have faced in the music business.

We’re a completely independent act that formed in 2015. We just finished self-producing our first record and we’re eager to get it in front of as many ears as we can.

.

.

.

Tell us about other members of your band, music producer, crew or music video director, how the song was recorded and how the music video was shot.

Aside from the core group, there were several additional people involved in this project. Our producer and great friend A.J. Minette produced and mixed the record and we were very lucky to have several of our hyper-talented friends perform on the record. The record was beautifully mastered by John Greenham, and our friend Victoria Cassinova created the stunning artwork.

.

.

.

Tell us how long you have been in the music industry, your experience and your future goal.

We’ve been involved in the music industry over the past several years. Zach is also a music blogger who has written for a variety of music publications, most notably Ultimate-Guitar.com. Taso is a classical guitarist and adjunct professor at Pepperdine University. Sam works in music licensing. Austin has a solo project and Aliyar is in a professional drummer who tours around the world.

In terms of future goals, we’d love to grow Blind Sparrow into a touring act, either independently or on a record label. Selling out Wembley Stadium would be sick too.

.

.

.

Tell us what inspires you to write, compose and sing.

The experience of living. Growing as person. Realizing what’s wrong with the world and acknowledging what’s beautiful about it.

.

.

.

Tell us the secret behind making a hit song.

For us, the golden standard of hit songwriting was set by The Beatles, especially during their later years. A hit should have a great hook and catchy melodies, but underneath that, the hits that stand the test of time tend to use dynamic and fully dimensional instrumentation.

.

.

Tell us the message you will like to pass to your fans out there.

Our first record captures a moment in time and we’re very excited to share that moment with you guys. It’s an eclectic mix of styles, moods, musicians, themes and sounds. It was made by a group of longtime friends who live in a tight-knit musical community. We hope you enjoy listening to it as much as we enjoyed making it. Please follow us on social media and if you like what you hear, please share!

.

.

.

Tell the kind of advice you will give to an upcoming artist.

Be resourceful. Don’t try to do everything by yourself. Advocate for your ideas, but also be flexible and welcome the creative input from your musical partners. Strive for quality but don’t let a pursuit of perfection prevent you from moving forward. Stay organized. Be consistent. Enjoy every moment of the process.

.

.

.

Elaborate on your music careers, albums, songs, tours, recognition or awards you might have obtained.

This is our first record, and we’re hoping to begin production on our next one early next year.

We’re just starting to get press, and recently, our friends at MetalSucks.net did a nice write up of our single, “Cash Mirror.”

Tell us how you write your lyrics, compose, sing and record in the studio.

Most of the songs that appear on our first album were originally written instrumentally since we didn’t have a singer when we first began writing songs. Once Sam came into the fold, we wrote lyrics and melodies over the instrumental demos we had tracked.

Half of the album is acoustic-based, and we recorded those tracks live at Big Bad Recording Studios in Silver Lake, CA. Instrumental layers were added afterward. For the album’s heavier songs, we recorded drums at Big Bad and then tracked instruments and vocals at our producer’s home recording setup.
