Tell us your real names, country of birth, date of birth and childhood experience.

My name Lee Desty . I was born at Southampton in England on June 2 , 1956. That makes me “mature”

Tell us about your music career, your band name, musical background, experience and skills.

My musical career started at 14 when I was given an almost unplayable Woolworths “Audition” guitar. I learned to play the basic chords and started to write songs. I also played fiddle with some folk and progressive rock bands. My teenage years were spent watching an unbelievable range of touring groups from The Who, Yes, Led Zeppelin (three times), Elton John, Rory Gallagher , Emerson Lake and Palmer. I also saw Nick Drake and John Martyn and their songs inspired me for years to come.

.

.

Tell us about your genre, concept and idea behind your music video and the song.

My genre : I guess I’m classed as singer / songwriter or folk/pop although some of my songs lean towards country or rockabilly.

.

Tell us everything that we need to know about you as a musician and the ups and downs you have faced in the music business.

My You Tube lyric video for the song “Always Reminders” reflects the idea behind the song which was looking through one of the old style sticky plastic photo albums , from the days when you still sent photos off in the post to be processed. I’ve got quite a lot of them 🙂 . It’s a song about family and faces – some of whom are no longer with us – but still inspire us and make us smile

.

.

.

Tell us about other members of your band, music producer, crew or music video director, how the song was recorded and how the music video was shot.

I‘m a solo artist. “Always Reminders” started life as a totally different song with a different melody and lyric. I wasn’t happy with it so scrapped the recording and started again. I was glad I did – I learned not to accept mediocre when you get something better. The song was recorded at White House Studios in Southampton and the song was produced by Dave Phillips , an amazing Pro Tools engineer and brilliant multi instrumentalist.

.

.

.

Tell us how long you have been in the music industry, your experience and your future goal.

I’ve been involved in music for over 40 years . I worked as a journalist in newspapers and BBC Television News so I’ve never been professional musician. My future goal is to take my songwriting to another level and try and record as many albums of original music as I can 🙂 I’d also love to play live at a festival or big concert hall again.

.

.

Tell us what inspires you to write, compose and sing.

They say always write songs about things you know or feel. I think that’s true for me – but I also like writing both fun stuff and tackling serious subjects like the Sandy Hook Elementary School massacre in the USA ( a song called End of a Gun) and the spy who’s lies were used by the US and UK Governments to justify the invasion of Iraq in 2003 ( a song called Curveball).

.

.

Tell us the secret behind making a hit song.

I’ve never had a hit song – but I do know the feeling when you’ve discovered a special song idea that really excites you 🙂

.

Tell us how you write your lyrics, compose, sing and record in the studio.

I always find the musical idea first – then use words or phrases to see what goes with it. I get hundreds of ideas on computer files this way but only a very small number will turn into songs. Some ideas may be left for months or years and be used in a different song. I always record the drums , guitar , bass parts first before the vocals.

Name the artists you have collaborated with before in your songs or artists you are willing to collaborate with in the future if you have the chance to do so.

Ok so this is fantasy stuff – I’d love to work with Ed Sheeran , Elton John – or do a writing session with that wonderful Nashville country songwriter Ashley Gorley .
