Tell us your real names, country of birth, date of birth and childhood experience.

My Name is Marquis Davis, I’m from Detroit, MI USA, and my birthday is August 13th 1991.  I had a great childhood, although I didn’t get to spend much time with my father because he worked a lot of long hours at work growing up.  I always had a great relationship with my mother and I always had both parents in the household.  I was also very close to my grandparents before they passed.

Tell us about your music career, your band name, musical background, experience and skills.

My rap name is Rainn, I guess you can say I got my musical background from my father, because he used to sing back in his day.  He always had a phenomenal choice of music taste that I think rubbed off on me over the years.  My mother was always a creative person and was always into researching and writing and she always had a big love for history.  I think that’s where I get my love for music history and studying some of the best artists of our generation and beyond.  I also studied Jazz and Music Appreciation in college, which I think gave me an extra edge in knowing which instruments in certain beats blend well with my style.

Tell us about your genre, concept and idea behind your music video and the song.

My genre is Hip-Hop with a Soul and R&B twist. I’m really into artists such as Joe, Ty Dolla $ign, Drake and Jay-Z, because I can relate so strong to these artists when they truly sing or rap from the heart .  I feel I have an old soul and I try to always incorporate love into my music because I once heard that love is the only thing that is timeless in this world and can never die, with that said I can’t run out of ideas that way because you can always find a new situation to talk about whether it’s the ups or the downs of a relationship or love in general.  I also feel like I could be a producer because I have such a good ear for good music and I enjoy songwriting.

Tell us everything that we need to know about you as a musician and the ups and downs you have faced in the music business.

The ups and downs I have faced in the music business are me trying to find an avenue or people and fans that truly accept my style of music. it’s very different than the things that are being released these days.  I want to be an independent artist and make my own way into the industry and do it my own way.  Two of my biggest Idols are Nipsey Hussle and Young Dolph because I feel they are two very good businessmen and did things their own way. I also always wanted to stand out because I want to fill a void and bring something that is missing in today’s music industry with many artists that were from the 90’s including singers and rappers.   Even just the vibes of that era was just different than the way it is today and I wanted to make a change.

.

Tell us about other members of your band, music producer, crew or music video director, how the song was recorded and how the music video was shot.

This song was recorded with a great engineer friend of mine named Smerf, his mixing skills are incredible and we had a great session and we talked about how we both felt soul music is missing in today’s music industry. I talked about Motown and how I just can feel the soul in certain artists even from where we’re from and can identify with the feeling and the vibe you get from certain songs that really hit you in your heart, because they are coming from an honest place, which is what I always do as well.

.

.

.

Tell us how long you have been in the music industry, your experience and your future goal.

I’ve made an Ep, but I haven’t really been in the music industry yet, I just started really taking it serious after my mother’s friend of mine that was Big Sean’s English teacher told me that I need be out here making music after hearing my “Beauty” lyrics, back when I recited it at the funeral as a poem. She said that the song was very striking and that I should get started and really start taking it serious because I have a true gift.  In the meantime I’m working on an album that is going to be incredible!!

.

.

.

Tell us what inspires you to write, compose and sing.

The things that inspire me to write are life experiences, love,  happiness, and even friendship, because that is very hard to find these days.  I also have to have a beat that really touches me or else I can’t really write. I can’t just make a record all the time just off-rip because my music is soulful.  Many times I have to go through a situation that really touches me and I would write about it.

.

Tell us the secret behind making a hit song.

The secret behind making a hit song I feel, is just being honest as you can about a situation or how you feel at that very moment.

.

.

.

Tell us the message you will like to pass to your fans out there.

To spread love, keep loving love, have faith in God, and to treat people how you would want to be treated no matter who it is.

.

.

.

Tell the kind of advice you will give to an upcoming artist.

I would tell them to write as much as they can and record as much as they can because you better know there is another artist out there working harder than you trying to take your spot if you don’t get busy and get serious.

Elaborate on your music careers, albums, songs, tours, recognition or awards you might have obtained.

I haven’t received any awards for any albums/songs, tours, recognition or awards but recently I got a 5/5 rating on my “Beauty” song from the UG Music Review.

.

Tell us how you write your lyrics, compose, sing and record in the studio.

I usually write my lyrics alone at home first and I either record at a home studio to get the idea down or I go to the studio when it’s polished and I’m really ready and I have something that’s serious.

Name five biggest artists that you like.

Joe, Drake, Ty Dolla $ign, Fabolous and Jadakiss.

.

.

.

Name the artists you have collaborated with before in your songs or artists you are willing to collaborate with in the future if you have the chance to do so.

R&B artist friend of mine named Laurie Love that is incredible!!!!! She has a Soundcloud page as well, I think you guys should check her out, she is the singer that is featured on this record now.  I think we are going to make a lot more classic records in the near future as well.  I also have 3 good friends of mine that go by 5’4, Tha Essence, and Mariimomma, they are some amazing artists. I want to work with all of them eventually, because everyone compliments each other’s style and we all are great at what we do and are unique in our own way.  It’s always been a big dream of mine to make an R&B record with Fabolous, Drake, Ty Dolla $ign, Joe, Jay-Z, A$ap Rocky, Tyrese, Styles P, Max B, or French Montana.  I’m also a huge fan of Diddy and the Bad Boy Entertainment camp and Cassie, I truly admire their work ethic and their sound, it’s so unique, they would be my number one collaboration, if I could ever do a big one. I also love Mila J and her music; she has a heavy influence on my sound, because her music is so honest.
