Tell us your real names, country of birth, date of birth and childhood experience.

Luke Aaron Jones and Marty Sprowles. We were both born in the midwest United States. I spent most of my childhood outside playing with my siblings. I was a preacher’s kid so a lot of music was in the church but my Dad in his younger years was a DJ so it was always “Secular” music in the car and on the radio. Mostly top 40 stuff. At home he had a record collection that I mostly just looked at. I remember The Doors, The Little Rascals, Poco, Three Dog Night, Iron Butterfly to name a few. My mother played piano and organ for the church. She would give us kids fifty cents or something to practice piano. I hated it then but something stuck and knew it’s my writing instrument and catharsis. My Mother’s piano and my Father’s radio kind of molded me in my formative years.

Tell us about your music career, your band name, musical background, experience and skills.

Most of my musical experience came when I moved to Nashville TN in my early twenties. I spent a decade there. It was there I think I learned how to become a performer and got most of my experience. I played in a lot of bands and performed and toured a lot. I did more back up vocals and instrument work playing bass and piano than I ever did fronting a project. It was later I would use all I had learned to develop my own sound and ability. I met my bandmate Marty later in 2010/11 in Bloomington IN in our former band Dreamers of the Ghetto. Hunterchild formed after Dreamers broke up in 2012, mostly performing as a two-piece. Hunterchild was my continuation as a singer/ songwriter/ producer.

Tell us about your genre, concept and idea behind your music video and the song.

I often describe Hunterchild as electro soul. I also think soundtrack always has a place in the music. I’m a visual writer. I hope to leave space for others to have visuals while they’re listening. This video is the first lyric video I’ve ever produced. It seemed fitting for this song. The crashing waves are a universal repetition. The song itself is about hope. We tend to have things or people in our lives that represent hope. This song is about the need for it despite the let downs and struggles you have with others. Hope is something you must possess yourself and it can be a hard realization that it is not in someone or something else.

Tell us everything that we need to know about you as a musician and the ups and downs you have faced in the music business.

I am a dreamer become realist. I think the dream is important but you have to work and you have to have the heart to keep going. It’s important to really love to write and create music regardless of the praise of others. This is how you succeed through the “downs”. The “ups” will come and go. Your music will be both powerful to some and pointless to others. You must do it because you love it, and you believe it matters and it makes you feel special, even if no one else cares.

.

.

.

Tell us about other members of your band, music producer, crew or music video director, how the song was recorded and how the music video was shot.

Everything was performed and produced by Hunterchild being myself Luke Aaron Jones and Marty Sprowles my bandmate. The Song was mixed by Paul Mahern at White Arc and it was recorded and mastered by Kate Siefker at the Bird’s Nest and White Arc. The video was also self-produced.

.

.

.

Tell us how long you have been in the music industry, your experience and your future goal.

I’ve been writing and performing longer than I would consider being in the “music industry”. My future goal is for my music to allow me to collaborate with other artists I admire but have yet to meet and to travel and experience places I have not yet been and to have an emotionally positive impact on my fellow human beings through my music.

.

.

.

Tell us what inspires you to write, compose and sing.

I don’t wait to be inspired. I write and create regardless. Sometimes I’m inspired and sometimes I’m not. The more I do the more I have and the better I become at what I do. As an artist your way is to create, not wait to be inspired or need for inspiration to create. Hopefully we inspire one another.

Tell us how you write your lyrics, compose, sing and record in the studio.

I tend to write mostly in my head and or record/ write in my home studio. I typically write alone and usually begin and finish a song each time I begin recording. I typically write melody and the lyric and idea come at the same time or shortly after. I usually then go to the studio with my home demos.
