Tell us about your music career, band name, musical background, experience and skills.

It all began as a teenage punk group. Within the 12 years not only we grew up, our music did as well. After a few years of playing instrumental music we decided, to add some new inspiration. That was the point when we asked Juli to give us his voice and we got a new member in the group. He is truly a enrichment for us and our music.

Tell us about your genre, concept and idea behind your music video and the song.

We concentrated on a 7/8 rhythm in this song, going through several changes in the arrangement, as we wanted some more energy and drive. It has trip-hop elements in the chorus and several distinct flows, main reason being it’s fun to play. The lyrics are about loneliness and the fear and embrace of death. Any more information would take away from the music video.

Tell us everything that we need to know about you as a musician and the ups and downs you have faced in the music business.

“The music that Amorph presents us on their first album “Where We Grow Tongues” is complex but not led by one’s head, directly but not bare. The six musicians from Basel have approached various styles in the twelve years of their band existence, but now they have found their ideal form: The six tracks on the debut are characterized by a remarkable density and abundance without ever becoming airtight. Among other things, this is due to the voice of the singer Julian Zivy, who accompanies their listeners purposefully through tricky rhythms, efficient guitar work and meter-high synthesizer cloud formations” Irascible Music.

Tell us about other members of your band, music producer, crew or music video director, how the song was recorded and how the music video was shot.

The Album “Where We Grow Tongues” was recorded and mastered by Michael Brändli at the Hardstudios in Winterthur (Switzerland). For the video we had the help of some passionate film student friends (Miro Widmer and Julia Minnig), they basically took over and made it all possible. They worked incredibly hard and managed to film the whole thing in two (crazy long) days. They basically made all the creative decisions, found the actors and also cut the whole thing with a minimal budget. The video was recorded in the countryside of Switzerland, creating the perfect mood for the song “Vostok”.

.

Tell us how long you have been in the music industry, your experience and your future goal.

We have been in the music industry for 12 years, although mainly in our home town of Basel. With “Where We Grow Tongues” we released the first album in our long history, giving us loads of new experiences with the industry. Our goal is to keep our passion going and to be good enough to allow us to play concerts from time to time. And a tour before we get old would be awesome.

.

.

.

Tell us what inspires you to write, compose and sing.

Writing your own lyrics is extremely rewarding as you have the freedom to say anything and having basically no control over how people listen or interpret the words. It is also very personal as lyrics mean different things to everyone, so no one will know the precise intended meaning.

Everyone loves to sing, everyone loves to create, it doesn’t depend on the medium. Our inspiration is the way you feel when you are in a room or on stage together with your friends and play and hear the music that you created.

Tell us how you write your lyrics, compose, sing and record in the studio.

We compose all the songs together during practice and the singer writes the lyrics. On this album we all recorded at the same time and then rerecorded the weak parts, doing the vocals after. As we don’t have much studio experience, in doubt we relied on the wisdom of our sound engineer.
