Tell us your real names, country of birth, date of birth and childhood experience.

My name is Nick Wilson, I was born in the UK in March 1995, making me 22 years old. My childhood was filled with loud family gatherings and music.

.

.

Tell us about your music career, band name, musical background, experience and skills.

I’m a singer/songwriter going under my real name. I guess my family has always been very musical so I grew up loving all kinds of genres and styles. I play guitar and use my voice primarily, it’s only recently that I’ve really understood vocals in terms of an instrument.

.

.

.

Tell us about your genre, concept and idea behind your music video and the song.

So “Headlights” was a step in a slightly different direction for me. I come from a background of making acoustic music, and this was a chance to explore more electronic styles, and push the limits of what I’m capable of as a producer. I wanted to make a ‘cool’ song that you could listen to whilst driving late at night.

.

.

.

Tell us everything that we need to know about you as a musician and the ups and downs you have faced in the music business.

As a pretty new and upcoming musician, I’m not sure I’ve had as much experience with ups and downs in the industry as much as other people. But I’ve been doing this for nearly 5 years now, and I guess the main up and down for me can be trying to get your stuff heard. You have to prove yourself so much more than perhaps you used to have to, and it’s so competitive.

.

.

.

Tell us about other members of your band, music producer, crew or music video director, how the song was recorded and how the music video was shot.

“Headlights” was recorded and produced entirely by myself. I have an incredible manager, Bjorn, who not only has the coolest name, but literally sorts everything out behind the scenes for me. But apart from that it’s essentially just me. I love the DIY approach to music, and I think it’s always a good skill set to have in this industry, to be able to make things yourself.

.

.

.

Tell us how long you have been in the music industry, your experience and your future goal.

I’ve been making music for around 5 years now, and I’ve loved it. It’s been entirely independent so far so I can’t wait to (hopefully) push my music further and into more ears, possibly with the help of a label.

.

.

.

Tell us what inspires you to write, compose and sing.

I get inspiration from literally everything. Sometimes I’ll hear a song that makes me want to go and write, sometimes it will be an idea, a tweet I see, literally everything. I think it’s good to keep yourself open to inspiration at any time as well; I’ve recorded voice notes of lyrics in the middle of the night before.

.

.

.

Tell us the secret behind making a hit song.

Ha-ha I’m not sure there is a secret. My favourite songs have always been written without sitting down and saying ‘I’m gonna write a hit’. I’ve been listening to the And The Writer Is podcast lately, and this is an idea they constantly come back to.

.

.

.

Tell us the message you will like to pass to your fans out there.

Thank you for listening to what I put out, and thank you for letting me do what I love most for a living. I owe you everything.

.

.

.

Tell the kind of advice you will give to an upcoming artist.

The best advice I could give is, don’t give up if it seems others have. If you are passionate about what you’re doing, but it doesn’t seem to be going anywhere, just keep doing it. You have to be willing to do it yourself, you can’t expect things to happen for you.

.

.

.

Elaborate on your music careers, albums, songs, tours, recognition or awards you might have obtained.

I’ve self-released 4 EPs and 4 singles now, and my Spotify following has grown considerably since the beginning, which I think of as my best recognition I’ve obtained. I haven’t toured before, or released an album, but will definitely do so at some point. It’s on the top of the list.

.

.

.

List Radio or TV Stations that are airing your songs and blogs that have featured you as well and send message to them via this platform.

I owe a lot to the folks at BBC Introducing, specifically the Beds Bucks and Herts show. They’ve played a couple of my songs, and always have me back to chat. I love them.

.

.

.

Tell us how you write your lyrics, compose, sing and record in the studio.

I don’t think I have a set way, if I’m writing by myself I tend to write chords and melodies first and then add lyrics after. I’ve been in writing sessions with other people before where they do the complete opposite though. If there’s a part that consistently trips me up, it has to be lyrics. I’ve spent too many hours trying to find the perfect word to finish of a second verse or chorus.

.

.

.

Name five biggest artists that you like.

Noah Gundersen, John Mayer, Bon Iver, Coldplay and The Staves.

.

.

.

Name the artists you have collaborated with before in your songs or artists you are willing to collaborate with in the future if you have the chance to do so.

I haven’t collaborated on a song yet, but I’ve written with a bunch of incredibly talented artists. I wrote a song with Lauren Aquilina this year, which was pretty nuts. I’ve been a fan of hers for a while.

Tell us about your happiest day and saddest day.

This is a tough question! Happiest was probably supporting Gabrielle Aplin back in 2013, or when Stranger Things season 2 came out. Saddest was probably when my cat Max died. He was great, miss you Max.

.

.

.

Tell us how you will spend a million dollars.

A stupidly expensive holiday and a whole bunch of studio gear to go in the studio I’d then build.
