Tell us your real names, country of birth, date of birth and childhood experience.

My name is Serena Foster and I am born in United States, California. As a little girl, I was singing at age four and playing guitar at age nine. Then at sixteen, I asking my mom for piano lessons and from there decided to pursue music professionally. Growing up I always had a very supportive mother, father and brother. They all always encouraged me to follow my dreams and pursue music.

Tell us about your music career, band name, musical background, experience and skills.

I always knew from the very young age of four years old, that it was my dream to be a professional singer and musician. I continue to go by my real name “Serena Foster” because I see no need to create a stage name. I am proud of who I am and everyone should get to know the real me, by knowing my real name. I come from a musical background, playing guitar taught to me by my dad at age nine and I have been playing piano since I was sixteen.

Tell us about your genre, concept and idea behind your music video and the song.

I am a pop artist with an electric influence. I like to call it electro-pop or edm-pop.  The concept for the “Show Me The Way” music video all started with my incredible director, Kassy Mahea, who thought the song sounded like someone struggling to do a job that they hate. She initially thought about using a cheap old motel, but when we realized how hard that would be we decided to put the concept in a real home to make it more believable. I actually wrote this song about a car accident I was in earlier this year, and how hard it was on me and my family. I was having a really hard time, dealing with a lot going on in my personal life, and this song became especially important to me as an outlet for all the stuff I was dealing with, especially the car accident.

Tell us everything that we need to know about you as a musician and the ups and downs you have faced in the music business.

I have been through so much, too much in fact. I know that sounds dramatic but all I can say to keep it short, is don’t let liars and manipulators take advantage of you. Stay true to yourself and keep your family close to you. My parents are my biggest fans and my biggest consult team. I don’t sign anything, do anything, play any show without talking to them and getting their advice. I trust them and am very lucky to have such a tight family and supportive parents. I am very blessed.

.

Tell us about other members of your band, music producer, crew or music video director, how the song was recorded and how the music video was shot.

I have some really terrific band members: Bryant Gifford (electric drums), Zach Andrews (bass), and MostArt (artist-collaboration). I worked very hard this past year with the talented producer, Raz Klinghoffer (a.k.a. Hamster) on all of my new music. We found a really cool sound for my voice and made it happen. It is always such an honor to work with Raz, he is crazy talented. The music video was a blast working again for the second time with my friend and insanely talented director Kassy Mahea, who directed “Show Me The Way”.

.

.

.

Tell us how long you have been in the music industry, your experience and your future goal.

I have been in this music industry since age sixteen and I am still going strong. It is not easy and I am lucky to have such supportive parents who have helped me so much along the way. I plan on playing at Cochellea in two years from now. I know with hard work and dedication it will happen.

.

.

.

Tell us what inspires you to write, compose and sing.

Anything and everything.

.

.

.

Tell us the secret behind making a hit song.

My big secret to make a hit song is when you don’t think too hard because that’s when the magic truly happens. I know, simple right? So stop overthinking and just write a song, you’ll see what I mean.

.

.

.

Tell us the message you will like to pass to your fans out there.

NEVER give up on your dreams. I have to tell myself that all the time, but I stand by that statement and I want my fans too also. I believe in every single of you guys.

.

.

.

Tell the kind of advice you will give to an upcoming artist.

I would say to keep going, keep pushing, work hard and stand firm on what you believe in. Don’t settle because you will always regret not trying your best and seeing where you can go.

.

.

.

Elaborate on your music careers, albums, songs, tours, recognition or awards you might have obtained.

I always won awards growing up in school competitions and local talent shows, which I think because of that happening when I was so young, it really helped in fueling my dreams to one day win a Grammy. I still have that dream and I get closer each and every day and I work harder than the last. I am so excited about this new music I have been putting out and can’t wait to keep releasing new material for you all to hear it.

Tell us how you write your lyrics, compose, sing and record in the studio.

I have a lot of different processes when it comes to writing, but I think the one I use the most is to listen to beats and music first, and from there, let a melody flow and jump on the mic and just free style things till something sounds cool. I like this method because it is straight to the point and I tend to get the best result this way.

.

Name five biggest artists that you like.

Gosh this is a hard question, there are so many artists I love and look up to, but to narrow it down to five I’ll say Lady Gaga, Marina And The Diamonds, Bebe Rexha, Julia Michaels and Halsey.

.

.

.

Name the artists you have collaborated with before in your songs or artists you are willing to collaborate with in the future if you have the chance to do so.

I have collaborated with a bunch of different artists, but my two favorites are for sure Hamster and J2 Producer.  Right now I am about to start a collaboration with MostArt, an artist who I am really excited about, and just recently played a show with at The Mint in LA. My dream collaboration would be with the DJ, Kygo, because I am absolutely obsessed with his music these days, he is killing the EDM world.

Tell us about your happiest day and saddest day.

My happiest day is easily spent making music and being with the people who mean the most to me.  And then on top of that, I would put on a concert for my fans who I love so so so so much. My fans mean everything to me.

Hmmm my saddest day would be a day not singing at all. I am always singing, whether it’s when I’m driving, cooking, in the shower, doing my makeup, pretty much anytime I am doing something where singing could happen, I’ll be singing. So a day where I don’t sing at all would be a very sad day indeed.

Tell us how you will spend a million dollars.

Wow a million dollars is a lot of money. First, I would help my family and my friends with financial obligations. And from there I would start a charity for animals and create a no-kill pet rescue and help animals find homes before getting put down. I love animals so much and would love to help stop putting down animals for no reason.
