Katherine Evans

Tell us your real names, country of birth, date of birth and childhood experience.
My name is Katherine Evans, I was born in the United States, my birthday is April 25th, and I grew up in Westchester, NY.

Tell us about your music career, band name, musical background, experience and skills.
My parents were both musicians, and my mom had me and my brother playing instruments when we were 3 years old—him cello and me violin. I played a full-length concert by the time I was 8, and I’m so grateful that my mom exposed me to music at such a young age; I did eventually get less interested in classical violin. My true passion was always singing. I went to University of Miami where I was a jazz voice major for a year, then switched to the contemporary songwriting program with a major in music business. I just graduated this past May.

Tell us about your genre, concept and idea behind your music video and the song.
Electro-soul, indie-pop, alternative, hip-hop, whatever you want to call it. This song is about wanting to preserve a fleeting feeling. It’s about letting go and being young and reckless for a night.

.

Tell us everything that we need to know about you as a musician and the ups and downs you have faced in the music business.
There’s not much to know yet…I’m just getting started, as this is my first single I’m putting out to the world—which is exciting but was very scary at first.

.

.

.

Tell us about other members of your band, music producer, crew or music video director, how the song was recorded and how the music video was shot.
I first worked on this song with Daniel Loumpouridis, who has an amazing ear and came up with all the major beats and synths behind “Take It Slow”. I then got together with Gabe Berenbaum months later and he added his own flare to the song and polished it up for me. To work with two different producers was so cool and gave me multiple perspectives on the song.

.

.

.

Tell us how long you have been in the music industry, your experience and your future goal.

I’ve been writing songs since I was 15, but didn’t start performing as a singer/songwriter until 4 years ago. I’m having fun collaborating with other artists and writing in a bunch of different genres. I hope I can continue to do this and eventually put out a full album of my original music.

.

.

.

Tell us what inspires you to write, compose and sing.

I write as a way to identify what I’m feeling and to add merit to it. I used to be very closed off and writing was my only outlet. Now, it’s more of a way to explore emotions and learn more about myself and the people around me.

.

.

.

Tell us the secret behind making a hit song.
Keep it simple, and hopefully the melody comes to you super quickly, without a tedious amount of effort and re-editing. The catchy melodies will be stuck in your brain and won’t take much thought. Make it easy to sing along to so listeners of various musical talents can blast your song and sing it back with ease.

.

.

.

Tell us the message you will like to pass to your fans out there.
Be kind to everyone, including yourself. Pet dogs.

.

.

.

Tell the kind of advice you will give to an upcoming artist.
Surround yourself with loving people who will be there for you when you feel stuck or on the verge of mental breakdown. Be nice to everyone!

.

.

.

Elaborate on your music careers, albums, songs, tours, recognition or awards you might have obtained.
I got the Daniel Pearl Award from Mark O’Connor at this fiddle camp I went to 2 summers ago. This is my first single; I hope to put out an EP or album in the next year. And to tour is the dream.

List Radio or TV Stations that are airing your songs and blogs that have featured you as well and send message to them via this platform.
Thank you so much BROADTUBE, Indietronica, Hip Hop Headquarters, Eternity Network, That New Jam, Purple Melon, and KRXM radio for featuring “Take It Slow” on your blogs/playlists/radio stations. It means the world to me.

.

.

.

Tell us how you write your lyrics, compose, sing and record in the studio.

I record snippets of song ideas onto my voice memos just about every day. I usually go back to them and create my melody and sit with it for a while until I realize what feeling the song is giving me, and then I vamp off that lyrically. I have my own studio set-up but I work with producers who help me bring my ideas to life.

.

Name the artists you have collaborated with before in your songs or artists you are willing to collaborate with in the future if you have the chance to do so.

I’ve been working with a lot of DJs of various EDM styles, and have a couple songs coming out soon. I’m open to all writing opportunities.

Tell us about your happiest day and saddest day.

A recent happy day was when I saw a Phoebe Bridgers concert with one of my best friends in NYC.

A sad day was when I got my wisdom teeth out last winter. I was sick too and was in so much pain for weeks. L

Tell us how you will spend a million dollars.

I’d invest it. Maybe buy some cool studio equipment and adopt more dogs.
