Tell us your real names, country of birth, date of birth and childhood experience.

My real name is Carolina and I was born in Milan on 6th April! I grew up in Italy, where I have developed my passion for music and poetry. I’ve only moved to London 3 years ago to study music professionally.

.

Tell us about your music career, band name, musical background, experience and skills.

My artist name is a combination of my nickname Carry and my grandmother’s name Lyanne (Liliana in Italian), who was always encouraging me to be creative.

I’ve just graduated in Creative Musicianship from BIMM London and I am currently studying Commercial Songwriting & Production at Tileyard Studios.

.

.

Tell us about your genre, concept and idea behind your music video and the song.

‘Nothing’ is about falling deeply in love with the wrong person, and that moment when you open your eyes and realize the relationship has come to an end. I wanted the video to be quite cheeky and to give the message: ‘Look what you’re missing out on!’ rather than depicting the pain of unrequited love.

Musically, I wanted to go more electronic compared to my previous single “India”.

.

.

Tell us everything that we need to know about you as a musician and the ups and downs you have faced in the music business.

As an artist you are constantly striving for more. You think you are never good enough, but sometimes it is important to appreciate what you have achieved instead of letting yourself down. I feel the music industry is tough, but it is also full of opportunities for those who are willing to fight for their dreams and to make music from the heart.

.

.

.

Tell us about other members of your band, music producer, crew or music video director, how the song was recorded and how the music video was shot.

I wrote and produced part of it by myself. However, Gabriele Mazza worked on the final production and he took it to another level! The song was mastered by Gabrielle Stok, whom I have collaborated with on my previous songs. There are also some live instruments on the track: electric guitar (Gabriele Cogo) and bass (Thomas Karnachapee).

The video was shot in two days. It was filmed and directed by Jay Kristoffer and edited by Catharine (Amoroso Films).

In the opening scene of the video I am coming out of a bathtub full of blue water. That was the hardest part to film. I had to do that scene so many times before getting a good one, where I do not look absolutely ridiculous.

.

.

.

Tell us how long you have been in the music industry, your experience and your future goal.

I am releasing my debut EP ‘Life’ in January, so I am a new entry to the music industry! At the moment, I am collaborating with a lot of new people at Tileyard Studios, where I am developing my songwriting and production skills. I want to release more material soon and perform at some big festival and venues around London!

.

.

.

Tell us what inspires you to write, compose and sing.

Usually I get inspiration from real life experiences and from the people I meet. I think human behaviour is fascinating! Other times, I would hear a new song that I really like and that would inspire me to write something new and to push my creativity.

.

.

.

Tell us the secret behind making a hit song.

Strong character, something that stands out from the crowd, repetition and great production.

.

.

.

Tell us the message you will like to pass to your fans out there.

You are special, because without supportive people listening to great music there wouldn’t be any great artist!

.

.

.

Tell the kind of advice you will give to an upcoming artist.

Never be afraid to make mistakes and always be kind. You never know what other artists are going through and where they will be one day. Music industry is all about people and connections.

.

.

.

Elaborate on your music careers, albums, songs, tours, recognition or awards you might have obtained.

My first single ‘India’ was aired on Wandsworth Radio March 2017 and on some Italian radios. I have recently performed at V-Dub Island (Isle of Wight) and Oxjam Festival (St Albans) amongst other venues in London. I am currently studying Commercial Songwriting & Production at Tileyard Studios (Ella Eyre, Tiggs Da Author).  ‘Nothing’ is my second original track, which will be part of my debut EP ‘Life’ (due for release January 12th).

Wandsworth Radio, RadioFragola, EternityNetwork, MusicMusicandSuch, Sette Giorni, BlueScore!

.

.

Tell us how you write your lyrics, compose, sing and record in the studio.

I like to improvise various melodies over a chord progression. I usually have a concept for the song, but I only write lyrics after I feel I have come up with a strong melody. I put together a rough demo and collaborate with producers to bring the song to life.

Name five biggest artists that you like.

Lana Del Rey, Rex Orange County, Aerosmith, Selena Gomez, Marina & The Diamonds.

.

.

.

Name the artists you have collaborated with before in your songs or artists you are willing to collaborate with in the future if you have the chance to do so.

I went to the BBC Introducing 10th year anniversary and saw Azusena live. She is great and I love her vibe. I would definitively like to collaborate with her.

At the moment I am collaborating with 2 producers on some new tracks and with other artists at Tileyard.

Tell us about your happiest day and saddest day.

One of my happiest days was probably when I was accepted to BIMM to study music! It felt like my dream was starting to come true. The saddest day is when I lost my dad. I actually try not to think about that day; it is important you keep a positive memory of the people you love.

Traveling, recording a great album and eating a lot of great food!
