Anywayz

Tell us your real names, country of birth, date of birth and childhood experience.

Hi, my name’s Benoit Depriester and I’m from France. I am 29 years old. I grew up in the north of the country but now I’m living in Paris.

And I’m Nils, I’m 24 and I grew up near Paris.

.

Tell us about your music career, band name, musical background, experience and skills.

We are both working in the music industry, Nils as a light technician for live shows and Benoit as a composer for TV and entertainment. The two of us have been playing music with previous bands for a long time now but we decided to work together since 2015.

.

.

.

Tell us about your genre, concept and idea behind your music video and the song.

We like to say that we are making Electro – Rock music. Because we are really trying to combine the real spontaneity of rock, with the sound and the spirit of electronic music. It’s not just like “Let’s put a synth on a rock track”. Most of the time, the guitars’ parts are coming very late in the process of writing.

The video is a Live Session of our last single “Kill Me” that we recorded in our rehearsal studio. We had this idea of a really comfy and warm mood and the choice of using only Edison light bulbs was really nice for that purpose.

Tell us everything that we need to know about you as a musician and the ups and downs you have faced in the music business.

Benoit: I started music by accident, and now it’s my job, incredible right? When my 14th birthday was approaching, my brother, who was looking for a bass player for his band, told my father I wanted a bass as a birthday present. So the day I aged 14, my father took me to a music store and tell me to pick up a bass, I was surprised, but also excited. I pick up a blue Ibanez and start to play immediately. Two weeks later I was writing my first song and decided to make music for a living. I never left that idea and now writing music is my everyday job!

Nils: I took drums lessons in 2005 first, then I began play with bands and around 2012 I dropped drums lessons. With my formers bands, we have had difficulties to be really productive, we used to compose in a rehearsal studio, it’s expensive, but we had a few gigs. The lowest down I had was realizing that to be a very technically good drummer, you need to play often, and that was not possible because of my neighborhood. I focus now on having a precise, groovy and strong hit.

.

.

.

Tell us about other members of your band, music producer, crew or music video director, how the song was recorded and how the music video was shot.

Benoit: Nils is a very good drummer, I like the way he always try to find the simplest and strongest idea. Lots of drummers always want to be demonstrative, he doesn’t. And finally that impresses a lot of people because there is something really solid about the way he plays.

I co-directed this video with a very good friend of mine, Félix Sulejmanovski, who is a professional cameraman for TV and Movies. He always find little ideas to make things really look professional, I was really impressed by the quality of the shooting, because we only had old domestic lights. But the result is beautiful, we are very proud of it.

Nils: That was a one shot. We made sure to have the studio when Félix told us he was going to shoot “Kill Me”. And that was it; on a Sunday morning we gathered everything that could help getting a good result and filled the cars (2). Benoit took a bunch of microphones and the necessary gear to record a multitrack. That was a really good day.

.

.

.

Tell us how long you have been in the music industry, your experience and your future goal.

Benoit: I do music for a living since 7 years now, and Nils, for 3 years. We really want to push Anywayz as far as we can and go on tours. We love playing shows and we really want to do more of these.

Nils: I like being on tour. And I would like to. We also have friends at the tour management, Sound & Lights. What a dream it would be to tour with all our crew.

.

.

.

Tell us what inspires you to write, compose and sing.

Nils: For the moment I do not compose or write. That may be a close future. I get patterns, or melodies in lonely moments (that I like) but I don’t take notes.

Benoit: Most of the time, I wake up with an idea stuck in my head, I go straight in front of my computer and open my DAW to start writing. I love to write and compose directly with all the tools, and not having this: ‘writing on the guitar and arrange’ process. I work more like an electronic music producer.

.

.

.

Tell us the secret behind making a hit song.

Benoit: I think the most difficult is to keep your enthusiasm intact and to let your idea stay simple and fresh. Most of the time, you start writing, and by listening to your song again and again, you start messing around with the all elements because you find it ‘too simple’.

But I think that’s the key. A hit song shouldn’t take long to write, it’s all about this popping idea that you catch at the good time and let live.

Nils: I find hit songs almost everywhere, in every style of music. I like music which is authentic and not too technical. I use music to communicate, if it’s too complicated, I’m not going to understand.

.

.

.

Tell us the message you will like to pass to your fans out there.

Benoit: I would say thank you first, because all of this only exists because of the people that are supporting us, because they are sharing our work and talking about us to their friends. I think, when you’re an artist, your fan are basically your boss, I mean, THEY ARE the one that decided to put you on stage and to make your music popular.

Nils : We’re on the booking, any help ? Hahahaha.

.

.

.

Tell the kind of advice you will give to an upcoming artist.

ENJOY ! That’s really that simple.

Making it in music requires a lot of work and can be very discouraging sometimes, it can take years, so if you don’t enjoy this path, you are going to miss all the point.

That’s the key; you have to push yourself and your music the hardest you can.  But to always remember it’s all about pleasure.

.

.

.

Elaborate on your music careers, albums, songs, tours, recognition or awards you might have obtained.

We already released a single and an EP.  On the YouTube side, we released a video clip for our track “Someday” and two live videos for our tracks “Once In My Life” and “Kill Me”. We played around 20 shows the last year.

.

.

.

List Radio or TV Stations that are airing your songs and blogs that have featured you as well and send message to them via this platform.

Benoit: I will probably forget some of them because my memory is very bad, but I would like to tell them thank you, because they are the fuel of this project, really.

You can ear “Kill Me” on: AT Radio (Manchester), RVVS (France), RKC (Montreal), Mystic Sons…

.

.

.

Tell us how you write your lyrics, compose, sing and record in the studio.

Benoit: We do the all process in my home studio: writing, recording, mixing… I basically never see the sunshine! We have a very DIY process.

Nils: The energy drink is not DIY.

.

.

.

Name five biggest artists that you like.

Benoit: Ouch, we really listen to an enormous amount of music, but I would say: Oasis, The Prodigy, Twenty One Pilots.

Nils: compared to bloggers, I’m just playing Thriller in repeat.. but I do admire: Jay Reatard, Bass Drum Of Death, Black Rebel Motorcycle Club & The Vines.

.

.

.

Name the artists you have collaborated with before in your songs or artists you are willing to collaborate with in the future if you have the chance to do so.

This is a really fresh project so we didn’t really have the chance to collaborate with other artists yet, but that’s something we really want to do in the future, especially with electronic producers.

.

Tell us about your happiest day and saddest day.

Nils: Both are very close. The saddest day of my life of youth was on 11/13/15 during the Paris attacks. The happiest was the day after (and maybe the whole week after).

.

.

.

Tell us how you will spend a million dollars.

Benoit: I would definitely buy gears. And an old VW Van. But mostly gear.

Nils: I have a wrong way to spend the money I have. Better give it to my family!
