Univ3rSoul

Tell us your real names, country of birth, date of birth and childhood experience.

My real name is Josh Curry. I was born in the United States.  I grew up in New Jersey with a family who played all kinds of different music in the house.  From an early age, I was exposed to Rock & Roll, Pop, Soul, R&B, and more. When I found hip hop music, I really connected with the genre and was inspired to create my own form of it. The conscious-minded, story-telling hip hop from artists like Eminem, Joey Bada$$, Kendrick Lamar, and others sparked me to explore the history and culture of hip hop for myself, and to honor its legacy in my own music.

Tell us about your music career, band name, musical background, experience and skills.

Univ3rSoul means the universal soul. I create music for all walks of life.

A good friend of mine was showing me a bunch of underground rap songs one summer and we decided to try writing our own so I’ve been writing my own raps since around the age of 12 or 13.  I started learning the recording process and taking things more seriously around the age of 16 or 17. I’ve just turned 21 and have recently released my debut mixtape “While The City Sleeps” on all platforms.  During that time I’ve also been assembling what is the beginning of my own record label/arts & an entertainment company called DREAM Team Ent.

.

Tell us about your genre, concept and idea behind your music video and the song.

My genre is hip hop/conscious hip hop. The concept behind my music was the story of a young dream chaser and the theme music that would accompany that.  It’s also dedicated to my best friend who passed away just before I could release it.

Tell us everything that we need to know about you as a musician and the ups and downs you have faced in the music business.

I’m just starting my official journey as a musician, yet I’ve experienced many ups and downs with music and in life in general.  All I can say is find your way to keep moving forward.

.

.

.

Tell us about other members of your band, music producer, crew or music video director, how the song was recorded and how the music video was shot.

I recorded everything by myself in my make-shift home studio lol.  I found a lot of producers throughout the internet and used some of their beats as well as beats produced by members of my team. The DREAM Team really helped out with a lot of the post production stuff as well.  I don’t have any visuals out just yet, but I’m definitely looking to roll some music videos out in the near future.

.

.

.

Tell us how long you have been in the music industry, your experience and your future goal.

I’ve only just officially become involved with the music industry at the end of this current year (2017).  As far as future goals go, I’m plotting on world domination.

.

.

.

Tell us what inspires you to write, compose and sing.

Life, death, everything in between. My experiences, thoughts and emotions. The vision for a better world.

.

.

.

Tell us the secret behind making a hit song.

I haven’t created what I would define as a “hit song” just yet, but I believe it has to be natural yet also produced at a certain degree of professionalism/quality. The perfect track for you personally as an artist, enhanced in ways that are proven to work on a commercial scale.

.

.

.

Tell us the message you will like to pass to your fans out there.

Pursue your dreams, turn them to reality.

.

.

.

Tell the kind of advice you will give to an upcoming artist.

Set a goal for yourself, pick a place to start, and do it.  Stay focused, keep working at it every day, and you’ll achieve greatness.

.

.

.

Elaborate on your music careers, albums, songs, tours, recognition or awards you might have obtained.

I’ve recently released my debut mixtape “While The City Sleeps” on all platforms (Soundcloud, YouTube, Spotify, Apple Music/iTunes, Amazon, iHeartRadio, etc.)

I have a lot of collaborations in the works with a lot of different artists, some in different genres.  I’m also planning out my next project and working on a few new solo tracks as well.  I’m really hyped about a collaboration with Perrion, a rapper based out of Harlem NY, whose music I’ve been a fan of for a few years now.

Also, I’ve collaborated on a couple tracks with DREAM Team Ent.’s member Brotha Mic.  We have one song out right now called “Respect” and another we’re about to drop called “Fat Boy”.  If you’re reading this, stop right now and check them out!

List Radio or TV Stations that are airing your songs and blogs that have featured you as well and send message to them via this platform.

I’ve been featured on TheWordIsBond.com, OfficialWolfTracks on YouTube, and a few Spotify Playlists such as the one run by Eternity Network.  My music will also be played on UndergroundIndustryRadio in January and FeelGoodMusicSite in the near future.  I’d like to thank everyone for the support and apologize to anyone I may have missed. I really appreciate it!

.

.

Tell us how you write your lyrics, compose, sing and record in the studio.

I usually listen to beats and let things happen naturally. Usually I’ll feel something from the instrumental and it’ll give me a general idea of where I’m heading with a track. Other times, I’ll just have beats playing in the background as I’m doing something else and freestyling at the same time. Usually this helps me figure out the flow for a track or occasionally I’ll come up with some quality lines that get me writing.

.

.

Name five biggest artists that you like.

Eminem, KiD CuDi, Joey Bada$$, MF DOOM, and Logic.

.

.

.

Name the artists you have collaborated with before in your songs or artists you are willing to collaborate with in the future if you have the chance to do so.

I’ve collaborated with DREAM Team Ent. member Brotha Mic like I discussed previously. I’m also planning to collaborate with other members of the team such as AceOfSlayz, Lee Angelus, Juel Anthony, and Killah Toni. I’m definitely planning to make something with a beat produced by Evo Productions and possibly getting something going with BluffGawd. I’m also hoping to work with producer DavidWuud in the near future.  As far as collaborations with other artists, I wouldn’t want to force anything but I’m open to working with anyone as long as the energy is right.

Tell us about your happiest day and saddest day.

The happiest day of my life was when my daughter Jaimee was born. The saddest day of my life was when my best friend Steve Feinroth passed away.

Tell us how you will spend a million dollars.

I would invest it wisely and turn it into 10 million dollars, which I would then use to repeat the process and later change the world.
