Tell us about yourself as an artist.

Fox & Charm is a self-producing electropop band. Formed by Diego Aguirre Cruzaley(sound engineer) (Mexican) & Onur Turkiz Karakurt (Turkish) and based in Mexico City. The band was formed a year ago. We intend to create fresh sounding tracks where everyone can find some common ground in terms of music or lyrics. Most of our songs are about love stories.

Tell us about the genre of your music.

We started off with “Fire In Me” that is a pure electropop song and currently; we make tropically inspired electropop.

Tell us about the story behind your song.

As a follow up to “Fire In Me”, “Bad Habits” (released on 1st of December) is a tropically inspired and cheerily harmonic track contrasting with the sad story of the lyrics. The song features a collaboration with up-and-coming Mexican Indie-Pop heroes Rubytates.  The song encapsulates a Dark Love Story that anyone can find themselves into; where we hear the lyrics from the perspective of the hurt one; where the lover knows that “this love” isn’t good for him, but it is so intriguing and charming, giving up isn’t an option.

The name, “Bad Habits”, come from the second verse of the song.

Am I a bad habit for you?

When real people aren’t real anymore.

Can´t get enough of you, won´t get enough of you.

Just like a fool for you.

But at the end, it is a happy song. The official music video will be released next Friday. Directed by longtime collaborator Jorge Alduncin (who directed their Fire In Me), the music video is a humorous, droll house party that the electropop duo find themselves in.

Tell us the challenges you are facing as a musician.

We’re an emerging band, so we want more people to hear, share and get emotionally attached to our music.

.

Tell us about the recording and production of the song.

Diego is a sound engineer and owns a studio. We usually record / produce at Diego’s studio. “Bad Habits” was a very interesting song as we composed and produced the first demo a year ago. During the year, we realized we were still trying to find the right sound for our band. So the song has experienced 3-4 different versions with different post-chorus (hooks) until it reached its final version. Produced and Mixed by Fox & Charm. Mastered by John Davis from Metropolis Studios, London http://www.metropolismastering.com/john-davis/

Tell us more about your music career, experience and future goal.

We want to continue releasing tropically inspired electropop songs with video clips as well. Also would like to have featuring in the upcoming releases as well.

.

.

.

Tell us what inspires you to write, compose and sing.

Most of the storytelling behind the songs are heartbreaks from earlier times. We produce almost every day; it’s very much dependent on the day, some day we wake up, with the urge of composing a brand new song (those are very creative days, don’t come every day) and some days, we just feel like working on already composed/produced pieces. But emotional state is the main driver of what we’re going to focus on for the day.

.

Tell us the secret behind making a hit song.

For us, it’s a blend between how we mix between what is really trending on Top 50 (in terms of sound) and what we feel like doing. We try to keep our sound very fresh.

Interestingly, whenever one of us composes a new melody for a song (can be any part) it is usually very dark and depressive. That’s maybe one of the interesting things about Fox & Charm’s sound. We tend to blend happy music + sad vocal melodies or vice versa.

But at last we have one main rule; we listen to our music in 3 different layers. First, only instrumental, then only vocals and lastly all together. We must love all 3 versions.

Tell the kind of advice you will give to an upcoming artist.

Connections in music industry are vital. We believe asking or demanding things for your band/projects unblushingly is key to success.

Name five biggest artists that you like.

The band’s biggest musical influences are Cheat Codes, Kris Kross Amsterdam, Dj Snake, Major Lazer and LANY at the moment.

Name the artists you have collaborated with before in your songs or artists you are willing to collaborate with in the future if you have the chance to do so.

Our last single “Bad Habits” is a collaboration with the Mexican Indie pop band, Rubytates. We’d like to collaborate with producers and artists in the future.
