Neck of the Woods

Tell us about your song.

“Bottom Feeder” is the first of 9 tracks on our debut full length album, its hard hitting with a haunting undertone.

.

.

.

Tell us about you as a person outside the musical world.

I’m a 27 year old cocktail bartender living in Vancouver, BC. I spend most of my free time skateboarding, running, mountain biking and hanging out with close friends.

.

.

.

Tell us about you as a musician.

Neck of the Woods is truthfully my first band. It’s been a steep learning curve that I’ve really enjoyed.

.

.

.

Tell us how you manage other activities with your musical career.

It’s a struggle. Often times I have to pass up opportunities to travel or do things with friends due to tour or management responsibilities. I think the key is limiting band work to an hour or two a day.

.

.

.

Tell us your experience as a musician.

I’ve experienced quite a bit so far. Everything from playing to 4 people in a dumpy nowhere town to sold out shows in major cities. We’ve had van break downs, fights, been ripped off by a terrible photographer, had member changes, great times and hard times. I look forward to what’s to come.

.

.

.

Tell us five artists you can regard as legends.

Tom Jones, Black Sabbath, David Bowie, Rush, Tool.

.

.

.

Tell us the names of the media that have supported you so far.

So far we’ve had quite a few, the noteworthy ones as of this year would be Metal Hammer Magazine, MetalSucks.net, No Clean Singing, Beatroute and Decibel Magazine.

.

.

.

Tell us your future plans pertaining music.

Tour, write, record, repeat!

.

.

.

Tell us what motivates you to write songs.

Music is my favorite artistic expression of emotion; I’m personally motivated by how I feel.

.

.

.

Tell us the names of the artists you have worked with and the ones you will like to work with in the future.

We’ve played with Misery Signals, Every Time I Die, Converge, Wolves in the Throne Room, The Faceless, the list goes on really. We’ve worked with Stu McKillop at Rain City Recorders, he’s been our top pick for recording artists in the country. In the future I’d like to work with Kurt Balou at God City.

.

.

.

Tell us what you think about creativity and originality in music.

What’s the point if your music isn’t unique to you?

.

.

.

Tell us the reason you are into music.

Music moves me, it changes how I feel, how I see the world and how I interact with those around me.

.

Tell us your view on old school music and new school music in terms of preference.

They each have their own unique flavour. But when it comes down to brass tacks nothing will ever beat the feel of the first 4 Black Sabbath records.

.

.

.

Tell us your most memorable day as an artist.

The first time we played in support of one of my all-time favorite bands Misery Signals. We played to a packed house in our home town; it was a very special night.

.

.

.

Tell us your genre of music.

We’re hard to pin down but I’d say we’re a progressive death metal band.

.

.

.

Tell us how you write and record your songs.

We get together in our rehearsal space and hash out ideas until we have something worth working with. Often times our guitarists Dave and Travis will put together a few riffs while our bassist Jordan arranges the song. We record our own demos to help refine our work.

.

.

.

Tell us what you will do for the people if you found yourself in a position of power.

I would listen.
