ABRAM

Tell us about yourself.

My name is Abram AL, I grew up with classical music and jazz. When I was a child, my mom always asked me to play the piano if I wanted to play the video games, she pushed me to come to the music concerts and ask me to play the piano at the Church and school. When I was in high school, I fell in love with music and at that time I knew that I wanted to be a musician.

Tell us about yourself as an artist.

I am currently studying at Berklee College of Music. I was first attracted to music production in my teens and began recording bedroom demos in 2011. Some of the songs were released only on my Soundcloud and some of them were my songs for Art of Tree’s album. The debut album “Art of Tree” was released in October 2014. From which me and my band were nominated for Breakthrough New Artist Net TV in 2014 and AMI Awards in 2015. In 2016 I became the semifinalist of “International Songwriting Competition” and “Song of the Year” for my Production “Hide and Seek” and “Coded Verses” that I wrote with my pal Andre Adriaan. I started to do a solo career as a DJ/Producer-Songwriter and have released “Don’t Let Me Go” featuring Lev Freedman and “Sleepless Night” featuring Zaid Tabani.

Tell us about the genre of your music.

In my band we made hip-hop and as a solo artist, I am making pop music with electronic production.

.

.

.

Tell us about the story behind your songs.

“Don’t Let Me Go” was written by me Lev Freedman and Tintin. On a deeper level, the song is about the journey of a young person through life. Less about a relationship and more about the decisions we make and how we deal with the consequences. He decides that they’re not going to work out but doesn’t want to let her go. Like he can’t commit to the idea of leaving even on his way out the door. I think it says a lot about humanity and how confusing it can be to be a young person. You know? It’s relatable both cause of the relationship thing and because of how hard life is sometimes. “Sleepless Light” is about relationship between the two who are affected by the memories either good or bad.

.

.

.

Tell us the challenges you are facing as a musician.

Trying to make the song that last another lifetime, not just another radio cycle.

.

.

.

Tell us about the recording and production of the song.

I created all of the production in Ableton, using Massive, Serum, Omnisphere, Kontakt 5 and hardware synth such as Prophet, Moog and Korg SV1 for keyboard sound. I sound designed the drums sample and put into the drums rack. I recorded the vocals in Pro Tools and I mixed in Ableton and Pro Tools.

.

.

Tell us the names of blogs, radio or TV stations that have supported you so far.

Rolling Stone Indonesia, NET Media TV, Music Magazines Indonesia, SCTV, TVRI, Rockdafuq, and DJ Mishka blog.

.

.

.

Tell us more about your music career, experience and future goal.

Before I came to United States, I mostly produced and played with my band and other Indonesian Artists. We played gig across the country and got some awards nominee. My nearest goal is making an album that relate to the people, for me connecting with the listeners on a conscious level is one of the greatest achievement.

.

.

.

Tell us what inspires you to write, compose and sing.

I write whatever I am feeling at the moment. I got inspired by stories, experiences and all of the things that happen in my life.

.

.

.

Tell us the secret behind making a hit song.

This is my opinion only, we can think about certain theory to make a hit song but a song is not science, it’s all about emotions, we can’t eventually know that a song can be a hit until we release it, and I am still not writing hit songs, lol.  But if the song has a certain felling, message and emotion that are transmitted to the listeners, I’m sure that will make an impact on people.

.

.

.

Tell the kind of advice you will give to an upcoming artist.

Everyone has a different talent, don’t try to be someone else, just be yourself. Do the best of what you can, love what you do and do what you love.

.

.

.

Elaborate on your music careers, albums, songs, tours, recognition or awards you might have obtained.

I recorded two albums with my other band that have never been released. I have an album with Art of Tree, a compilation album with my band and one album that I wrote and produced for other artist. I have toured to most of the cities in my country but in America I have only played in Boston and New York area. I have couple trophies that I got from music competitions in my country. The Awards that I got here so far: semifinalist of “International Songwriting Competition” and “Song of the Year”.

.

.

.

Tell us how you write your lyrics, compose, sing and record in the studio.

It’s always different depending on what comes first. Sometimes I got an idea of the hook and the lyrics, and then I write it down and do the production after. One time I play the piano and got a full song. Sometimes I make the beat first then put the melody and lyrics after. The most important for me is the message and the emotion in that song, production is just a tool to deliver it.
