Xavier

Tell us about yourself.

Xavier, born in Gallup, New Mexico and raised in the small town of Blythe, California (currently live in LA). Farming and agriculture dominate the little desert economy and the streets infested with drug use, there’s not a lot of hope or aspirations outside of city limits. I recorded my first song when I was 14. First generation Nigerian youngest of five children, son to immigrant parents. I used education as a way to leave the town. Graduated. I lost my brother two years ago. I quit my job.

Tell us about yourself as an artist.

I pride myself on having a smooth delivery, much laid back vibes, punchlines and lyricism matter to me in an era where lyrics don’t matter.

.

.

.

Tell us about the genre of your music.

Hip Hop to the core man, But I also like to incorporate other styles of production into my pallet as well.

.

.

Tell us about the story behind your song.

“Dynasty”, I grew up a Laker fan during the Kobe- Shaq era, that was the last DYNASTY we have seen in professional basketball, I want me and my team to operate the same way they did, you expected them to win, I expect the same from my crew. These flash in the pans pop up now and again and win rings, but Dynasties last forever, that’s what I want.

.

Tell us the challenges you are facing as a musician.

Industry is forever changing; everyone is starting to dress, look, and sound alike. Social media and image matter more than the music these days. 30,000 records are uploaded to Spotify each day, so it’s tough to keep up and remain patient while creating your best content as possible.

.

Tell us about the recording and production of the song.

The producer RJ Beatz is a producer from the UK, we vibed instantly over the record he sent it over to me and I had the song, concept, recorded, mixed and mastered within 36 hours of him sending it over, it was one of those songs that just clicked.

.

Tell us the names of blogs, radio or TV stations that have supported you so far.

XXL, Complex, 2 dope Boyz, thissongslaps.com, Hip Hop DX, have all covered my music before.

.

Tell us more about your music career, experience and future goal.

Future goal is to leave a mark that lasts forever on this industry. I want to have content that they play for years and years to come.

.

.

.

Tell us what inspires you to write, compose and sing.

Life inspires me honestly, shit that I have done in the past, dreams that I have or things that are part of my environment are what fuel my fire and get me going. I like to keep my stories authentic, no matter how outlandish my lyrics are, I’ve either done it, seen it, or I’m about to do it.

.

.

.

Tell us the secret behind making a hit song.

I’ll get back to you on that when I have one that is recognized by the masses.

.

.

.

Tell the kind of advice you will give to an upcoming artist.

No half way stepping in this industry if you’re not ten toes down and willing to risk it all for what you believe in, I would suggest another career. Stay weary of shady people and keep your loved ones close.

.

.

.

Elaborate on your music careers, albums, songs, tours, recognition or awards you might have obtained.

Went on my first tour this year January-February with Derek Pope, my brother, I wasn’t even on the bill but he brought me out every night to perform our dope record “Squadron” and it was an experience I will never forget.

.

.

.

Tell us how you write your lyrics, compose, sing and record in the studio.

I like to take my time with lyrics, drive around the city and let the beat play and turn my voice recorder on to start generating ideas and concepts/melodies. There are also times where I just create it on the spot in the studio, but I prefer to take my time with verses/hooks and songs in general. Prefer dim lights to get the vibe right.
