Yellsmiles- ‘yell’ is the end of the singer’s first name. As a child Danielle Escobar was referred as a “smiley kid” and people often asked her why she was always smiling.
“yellsmiles just felt right when I said it. My older brother and I were thinking of a stage name and we were talking about growing up and that was just easily the name.”

Danielle sang in choir from the age of 7 always excelling in singing and receiving solos and award for her musical talent. This continued on through high school and she went on to win choir competitions. Danielle is compared to singers like Amy Winehouse, Billie Holiday, and Rihanna.
In 2015 Danielle met Brett Ettinger a self-taught musician. Ettinger was constantly making beats and creating music, he proposed Danielle work with him as a duo. The pair began writing songs together and “Daydream” is the first single off the album. They have 12 songs that will be released in Yellsmiles debut album Summer 2018.

Tell us about your genre, concept and idea behind your music video and the song.
Yellsmiles is a pop duo.
“Daydream” – concept:
“Daydream” is a song about meeting someone so dreamy that you can’t tell if it’s real or not. “I thought about that feeling when you first start to like someone. And you’re in bliss from them that you’re almost blinded to other traits the person may have. Daydreaming that a love is right when in fact it may not be.” The music video focuses on the chemistry between Danielle and Brett.

Tell us everything that we need to know about you as a musician and the ups and downs you have faced in the music business.
“People lie or exaggerate to seem cool, they name drop but nothing ever comes of it… They say “I know so and so.” But it never happens. I’ve had a handful of so called “opportunities” that never resulted in anything. I don’t really get my hopes up anymore, if it’s going to happen it will. I just want to be in an arena singing my feelings to people who feel the same as me. I got to make it happen for myself.”

Tell us about other members of your band, music producer, crew or music video director, how the song was recorded and how the music video was shot.
“Brett Ettinger is “my everything.” He plays the guitar, piano, and makes the drums and beats; he edits everything, mixes it, and is my partner on all the songwriting. He has helped me to structure and helps me to see things from a different view, Brett Ettinger is the band, and I just got to sing my heart out in the studio.

The video was in collaboration with a videographer who calls himself “Snaplawd.” The duo saw his videos and reached out to him. “He let us have a lot of creative freedom and came up with one of my favorite shots on the floor.” The video was shot all in one day.

Tell us what inspires you to write, compose and sing.
“I’ve always been into art; I love visual art as well as music. Art saved my life as a kid, kids can be mean but you bet no one made fun of my artwork. I always felt good about creating. In my early teens I started writing poetry. Music always made me happy, I constantly surrounded myself with it and the feelings it brought. I would love to direct a full production; I have so many ideas in my head. I hear and song and I see a scene. I’ve been writing short stories and poems for nearly my whole life.”

Brett usually starts playing guitar and makes a drum beat. Danielle sings and they try to find the melodies without words and then Danielle writes words down and sings it over and over. The duo makes a demo of it and then listens to it over and over and chips away at it like a clay structure.

Tell us about your happiest day and saddest day.
Danielle: “My happiest day was the first time I sang in front of people, their reaction to it was like a high, my parents always made me feel so loved and always supported my singing. My saddest day was the day my dad died, it changed everything for me, I’ve grown from it but it’s still definitely a day I don’t like to think about.”

Tell us how you will spend a million dollars.
I’ve always thought about my mom and how I would want to make sure she is happy and doesn’t have to worry about money, same goes for my whole family. This world isn’t easy on most of us and I don’t think anything to compare to the feeling of helping them out. I would want to create a high budget music video and have creative freedom. I want to make my masterpiece.”
