Tell us your real names, country of birth and childhood experience.

My name is Jordan Mueller and I’m from Tampa, Florida in the United States.

.

.

.

Tell us your academic qualification.

I graduated from Oral Roberts University in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

.

.

.

Tell us about your music career, band name, musical background, experience and skills.

The very first album I owned was a James Brown Greatest Hits album. I loved it. If there’s any soul or funk in me at all I think deep down it started from hearing him. Later, while at a summer camp as a kid, I heard Jack Johnson’s song “Better Together.” I loved how good it made me feel so when I stumbled across doing music in High School; picking up acoustic guitar and coupling it with singing and stopped playing as many sports or video games, I found that I wanted to give people that same ‘Feel Good’ type of music when I wrote. I then started listening to a lot of Jason Mraz, Bruno Mars, John Mayer and Andy Grammer and just found my own sound through it.

.

.

.

Tell us about your genre, concept and idea behind your music video and the song.

Yeah, so my genre I like to call it acoustic pop feel good music with some hints of jazz & hip-hop influences. I wrote the song ‘Island Waves’ during a time in my life where I was just weighed down with the stress of life and I felt like I needed to just get away. I took a trip to Puerto Rico and realized that I didn’t really need to go to Puerto Rico to escape the stress of life; I really just needed to change my mindset and see that “Island Waves” were more a state of mind than a place you physically go to. I then wrote the song ‘Island Waves’ which describes my journey from Oklahoma all the way to Puerto Rico and although I physically went someone else that I also went there with my mindset change. I love the line in the song, “Kicked off my shoes along with my worries . . .” that’s exactly what I did.

Tell us how to run a record label independently and successfully based on your experience as an artist.

I think I’m still figuring that out, but I definitely think the internet has revolutionized the game for us Independent artist and labels. My main goal is to connect with my fans through social media and give them quality songs with quality videos and content to watch. If people want to ride the wave I’m creating then great, if not that’s there loss and I think that’s my main advice for other indie labels and artist is to not focus on trying to get a big record deal or wait on someone to discover you, but instead create the wave yourself.

.

.

.

Tell us how you are promoting your music.

Social media is huge. I try to post on the main platforms as much as I can, but I’m careful not to over-saturate people’s feeds to where they get annoyed. When I have a new quality music video or single released I promote my posts in Facebook and target potential fans that I think would enjoy the music I create. I do my best to get on Spotify playlists as well, because Spotify is KING these days.

.

.

.

Tell us what makes you happy and what makes you sad.

What makes me happy is seeing other people succeed at their passions. What makes me sad is when people don’t have hope for their life or for their dreams. I believe everyone has a purpose and their dream for their life is God given and it’s up to them to go after it – being negative doesn’t help anything or anyone!

.

.

.

Explain clearly the story or concept behind the song.

The condensed version is that “Island Waves” the song and video take you on a journey, which I took to Puerto Rico from Oklahoma and along the way I discovered that relaxation and the escape from life’s busyness isn’t just in the vacation, but in your mindset and mentality about life. There’s a line in the song that sums it up pretty well, “Kicked off my shoes along with my worries . . .”

.

.

.

List the radio stations, TV stations and blogs that have aired or featured your new song.

As of now, you guys will be the first blog that the video is appearing on. But I’ve had the song on several blogs and small radio stations in Jamaica so far. I can’t remember all of them off the top of my head, but Drunkin Coconut is one blog that the song was featured on. I also have the song on about 76 different Spotify playlists as of now with Happy Morning Songs and Sunday Playlists to name a couple. I’ve had a magazine called CHORD Magazine reach out to me through Instagram wanting to feature me in their February issue, which should be cool!

Tell us about other members of your band, music producer, crew or music video director, how the song was recorded and how the music video was shot.

I’m a solo artist so I don’t have any members to my band, if someone wants a full band show, I just hire out musicians I trust! My music producer is Luke DeJaynes of Groove Kitchen Studio’s in Nashville, TN. He’s great. I highly recommend him. I do have a crew of individuals that help me out consistently with my music and that’s huge because I wouldn’t be able to do it without them. So Luke DeJaynes produces and mixes my songs and then a guy named Ben Kesler out of St. Louis masters my tracks. An awesome guy named Michael Hoss of Michael Hoss Design created my website as well as my Official Island Waves T-Shirt which correlates with the video showing the map of my journey to Puerto Rico from Oklahoma and that can be purchased on my website www.jordanmueller.com 10% sales is going to Disaster Relief in Puerto Rico. My video director’s name is Nick Rua out of Tampa, Florida and he’s the greatest. I brought to him a concept of where I could see the music video going and he really put in the work to bring it to life. The video shows scenes of me singing the verses of the song walking into the waves of the ocean fully clothed. As I get deeper into the water I start taking off layers of clothing resembling the fact that as I get closer to Island Waves the weight of life starts to leave until I’m fully submersed in the waves and at that point salt water makes you weigh practically nothing so basically the concept of the video is to show people that if you submerge yourself in Island Waves (mentally) the video just shows the physical, but all the weight you were carrying is no longer heavy and keeping you down.

.

.

.

Tell us how long you have been in the music industry, your experience and your future goal.

So January of 2017 is when I really started pursuing having a career in the music industry. I found young talented individuals at my church that maybe didn’t believe in themselves creatively and I encouraged them in their creativity and started developing a team of people in Tampa to help me create content to post on social media. Those same people are now doing great things in the creative industry and I’m so proud of them for that. I then moved to Nashville, TN in May of 2017 and have been working in the industry to this present day. My future goals for the short term are to release a third single in February and go on tour. I then plan on coming back to Nashville to record my first full record.

.

.

.

Tell us what makes you unique from others.

I think what makes me unique from others is my personality and my fusion of sounds for my music. I have a passion to see others succeed in their gifts and I know by helping others succeed I’m going to be successful as well, even if it’s not seen as successful to the public eye. I know that my life has been a success by the amount of people I can help and encourage along the way.

.

.

.

Tell us your weakness and strength pertaining music.

Haha my weakness is probably playing perfectly with a click sadly. I listen to a metronome as I practice and sometimes even as I sleep in hopes of getting better, which has helped. My strength is definitely in my tone and relaxed and enjoyable to watch stage presence I think! It’s always weird talking about yourself.

.

.

List your five favourite songs including the artists.

Jack Johnson – “Better Together”

Jason Mraz – “Live High”

Reith – “Mess”

John Mayer – “Gravity”

Maroon 5 – “Sunday Morning”

.

.

.

Tell us your position on “DIY” Do It Yourself” and signing to a major label.

As of now, I’m going to do everything myself with a team of individuals that believe in me and my music. If someone wants to come and join the wave I start and ride with me, I’d be open to that, but it would have to be the right label and the right deal for a win-win situation that catapults my music to an audience I wouldn’t be able to reach myself.

.

.

.

Tell us the instruments put together in this song.

This song has acoustic guitar, ukulele, piano, drums, base, electric guitar, some electronic synth sounds I believe in the chorus and a Rhodes.

.

.

.

Tell us other activities you will like to pursue apart from music.

I’m all about the outdoor lifestyle. I love to go hiking, kayaking and explore to places I haven’t been to before. I’m also interested in having rental properties one day on the side of my music business!

.

.

.

Tell us about gaining the confidence to sing in front of a large crowd for the first time.

This is actually funny. The first time I sang in front of a large crowd was an 8th grade choir concert. I had a solo and I forgot the lyrics and said “dang ir” into the microphone. After that, my confidence was shot for a bit, but as I continued to sing and people started encouraging me I started to realize that even if I didn’t believe it myself at the time all these people want to hear me sing so I tell myself that when I perform in front of a large crowd. I just tell myself this is what I do. I sing and I play guitar.

.

.

.

Tell us the best way to make money in the music business.

There’s no one size fits all for what’s the best way to make money in the music industry, but I would say licensing and sync placement is a great place to start. Getting your music in TV and Films can be huge revenue for your music business. Besides that Spotify plays for your own music and then songwriting for larger artists and having a hit song cut by one of them.

.

.

.

Tell us your experience pertaining TV/Radio plugging.

I receive my degree in college in PR and Advertising so I’ve had to do it for class assignments before getting into the real world. Now I just reach out to main points of contact and try to make it a win-win for both sides. They want a compelling story and I want the exposure so how can we work together to make that happen basically.

.

.

.

 Narrate your recording experience

It’s been a huge learning experience recording in a studio. I really enjoy it. The most fun is seeing the song come to life, while the most difficult thing for me has been being comfortable singing without any cares or worries when you know it has to be great and there’s a person listening in the other room through headphones! Hahaha

.

.

.

List your various works.

My debut single, ‘Makes Me Crazy’ and then ‘Island Waves’ my follow up single and now there is a third single coming called ‘Snooze Button’ that I’m really excited about!
