Ruth Koleva

Tell us everything will need to know about you.

I do music, I write, I sing (mostly). I work on developing the local scene. I promote shows, have managed artists and have a NGO on mental health care. 🙂

.

.

.

State your favourite genre of music and your reason.

Can’t have one. Lately I enjoy the blues – gives me emotional comfort.

.

.

.

Tell us your experience as a musician.

I do this for quite long. I started off as a Drum and Bass vocalist, moved towards Soul/Jazz which worked quite well, earned some awards, opened for some amazing people. Met some great musicians. I do concerts with philharmonic orchestra, which is a big deal for me.

.

.

.

Tell us the theme of your song.

It’s about domestic violence. Something we rarely talk about from where I’m from, but something that affects every woman in the world.

.

.

.

Name the people behind your success and thank them on this platform.

Vito Bonev the director of the video, Georgi Linev the producer, Tien Nguyen the person who wrote it. It was great pleasure working with them.

.

.

.

Tell us about your future goals.

I want to be able to travel the world and do what I love and share it with people.

.

.

.

Go into detail about your opinion on religion and politics.

I’ve felt best in places where people practice Buddhism or Hinduism. I do not judge, and wish to not be judged as well. I believe politics now-a-days is all pro-conflict, consumerism and corruption, and we – the people pay the price.

.

.

.

Elaborate on how you think your music is inspiring your fans.

I hope it makes them feel something. Whatever it is – that’s personal.

.

.

.

Explain the changes you have observed so far in the music industry.

People care less about quality and more about quantity. That’s what all that “availability” led to.

.

.

.

State the artists you cherish most and your reason.

Freddie Mercury – the most amazing live performer.

Whitney Houston – the most amazing voice I’ve heard.

Jimmy Hendrix – That’s what I believe is to have a “gift from God”

Alice in Chains – their music resonates with me in times of sorrow.

Elaborate on how you develop your lyrics.
I write emotionally, and mostly dark lyrics. I feel negative emotions and create beautiful lyrics.
.

.

.

Tell us if you enjoy collaborating with other artists or just singing as a solo artist.

I love collaborating. But I prefer being solo than in a band (even though I play with the same musicians for 9 years now).

.

.

.

Brief us your opinion on making music that makes people to dance or making the kind of music with genuine message that inspires them.

I need to deliver a message – music is my way of expression.

.

.

.

Elaborate on how you develop your melody and instrumentation.

I start with chords and then develop a vocal line and write lyrics on the vocal melody I have.

.

.

.

Go into detail on the recording process of this song.

I usually record albums, 2 weeks in a studio with the band – pre-work is 2 months, rehearsals and writing sessions. After that we lay the vocals, strings and post production. Mixing and mastering will follow recording after 8 months.
.

.

.

Discuss your music performance.

I believe that’s my strength, That’s when the magic happens for me – being on stage and sharing what I care about with the audience. It’s mesmerizing.

.

.

.

Tell us how you will describe yourself as an artist.
I am a gifted artist with love for music and always have a message to spread through my music.
