Kacy Moon

Share your life story with us.

My full name is Kacy Mooneyham, but I go by “Kacy Moon”. I’m 24 years old and I was born right outside of Pensacola, Florida. I’m an only child and have amazing parents! They were (and still are) always so supportive of everything I chose to do. I was a very active and creative child – always involved in sports and always singing into my karaoke machine pretending I was Britney Spears or Shania Twain playing a show for my imaginary audience. I knew from a very young age that I wanted to be a performer.

Kacy Moon is a 24 year old singer and songwriter who has loved music and wanted to be a singer ever since she can remember. At age 9, she was on one of the most sought out martial arts teams in the world, Mike Chat’s team “XMA”, alongside actor Taylor Lautner, and was traveling around the world competing in front of hundreds and sometimes thousands of people on stage. She holds 8 world titles and has appeared on The Ellen Degeneres Show, Good Day LA, and ESPN2. At age 13 she made the move to Los Angeles to pursue a career in entertainment. After some success in acting, she quickly got back to her true love which was music. She began taking songwriting seriously at age 15 and has gone from working with Don Cromwell of Air Supply, to recording music in Raphael Saadiq’s studio, to Sydney Australia working with the Banton Brothers.

List the names of those that have assisted you so far in your music career and use this opportunity to thank them.

I have to start by thanking Mike Chat – he was my martial arts coach and mentor throughout my whole childhood. He taught me important life skills that carry over into my music. I also want to thank my producer Scott Welch! He really lets me be involved in the production process and I’ve learned so much working with him.

Narrate your experience while recording in the studio or while touring.

I love being in the studio. I’ve been fortunate enough to work with some really talented people. Especially Scott who produced this song. We just vibe so well together! It’s so rewarding building a song from nothing and hearing it all come together.

.

.

Go into detail about your songwriting process.

Usually I become inspired by something that’s happened, I write down some lyrics, get a loose concept, and figure out what sort of tempo I want it to be. Then I’ll go to the studio and my producer will start playing some chords on his guitar and we’ll start coming up with a melody. Some people start with a beat or with chords but for me I almost always start with lyrics and a concept.

Brief us on what you have on the way for your fans out there.

I have a music video for this song coming out on February 9th! I’m really excited about it. I don’t want to spoil anything but it has a pretty unique element to it. I worked so hard on it. I also have a few more songs in the works and will be back in the studio soon.

Tell us what you are doing to increase your fan base.

Just spreading the word as much as possible. As an independent artist you have to just put your music out there, ask friends and family to share it, reach out to bloggers and music curators and hope it takes off.

.

.

.

Tell us that point in time that you just feel like giving up on your music career.

There have definitely been times I’ve been discouraged, but I’ve never felt like giving up on my music career. I’ve never had a plan B! I know I’m supposed to be doing music – it’s what brings me joy.

.

.

.

Go into detail on how you make your instrumentation or melody.

Typically it starts with my producer playing some chords and I’ll just start my voice memos on my phone to record and just hum along until I find something I like.

Tell us the subject matter of most of your songs.

They’re all experiences of my life. So as you can imagine there are love songs, breakup songs, party songs, you name it! When I sing them, no matter how long it’s been since I’ve written them, I always transport back to that time.

.

Tell us all we need to know about this song.

This song is about living in Los Angeles. Most of the time, everyone you meet is in the entertainment industry and trying to get ahead. I can’t remember what exactly sparked this song, but I remembered thinking “I bet if I were famous they wouldn’t have treated me that way”. It’s so sad but it’s true.
