Tell us everything we will need to know about you.

I’m a Finnish 23-year old artist/producer, currently living in London. My work fuses hip hop and rock in a fresh way, as my roots are equally in both grounds.

.

.

.

State your favourite genre of music and your reason.

I listen to good songs/albums instead of specific genres per se but listening-wise I definitely consume hip hop the most. It keeps on evolving and staying powerful and interesting whereas the mainstream rock has become more stagnant.

.

.

.

Tell us your experience as a musician.

I’ve worked with various underground bands and done production and co-production for friends and acquaintances. Right now, I’m very driven to fuel my solo career because I finally feel like I’ve decided on where I want to head artistically.

.

.

.

Tell us the theme of your song.

“Cold Leather” talks about being outwardly repressed and how behind a cold, emotionless shell there might be a passionate, empathetic person behind it.

.

.

.

Name the people behind your success and thank them on this platform.

So far, I’ve done mostly everything for my solo career by myself. With that said, I’m eternally thankful to the various inspirations and influences throughout my life, including big names like Chris Cornell, Kanye West, Andre 3000, Aphex Twin, Rance Allen, Sir Paul McCartney and Graham Bonnet, but also my friends and my family.

.

.

.

Tell us about your future goals.

You will see.

.

.

.

Go into detail about your opinion on religion and politics.

I follow politics quite fervently and like to integrate parts of it to my music but in a way that is fresh and not preachy. Thanks to the current instability of the political climate, I’m a bit more wary of how I present myself politically: I always stand by my own ideas and principles but have become more interested in listening as opposed to having a shouting match with someone. What we need right now is more listening, plain and simple.

.

.

.

Elaborate on how you think your music is inspiring your fans.

Honestly, I can’t really envision the reactions to it but I really hope it does inspire. That’s the purpose of my own career.

.

.

.

Explain the changes you have observed so far in the music industry.

Frankly, the big changes happened before I started focusing on my career. I love the streaming era, the amount of amazing art everywhere is constantly inspiring me. With that said, I’ve recently seen an uptick in the mimetic content, and predict that will keep on being the future. Hit songs might start getting shorter as well, due to the general attention span of the public in the modern days’ haste. Don’t get me wrong; however, there will always be audience for longer songs, no matter the fads.

.

.

.

State the artists you cherish most and your reason.

It’s a tough call between Chris Cornell and Kanye West, two men who changed my musical viewpoints drastically. With that said, Andre 3K is slowly creepin’ on up.

.

.

.

Elaborate on how you develop your lyrics.

I usually sit down and write, sometimes bring out old draft writings and ideas that will possibly give me a spark of inspiration to follow. I’ve recently started appreciating freestyling a lot more (I used to be a pen and a paper-guy for the longest time), a world that I want to delve deeper into in the future.

.

.

.

Tell us if you enjoy collaborating with other artists or just singing as a solo artist.

I love working as a solo artist but I love collaborating/doing guest spots on other people’s songs. I’m always up for guesting on a good song that I’m feeling.

.

.

.

Brief us your opinion on making music that makes people to dance or making the kind of music with genuine message that inspires them.

My vision is to implement both in my career, as I have very drastic influences and many sides to my way of expression. A lot of my idols have the same thing going, balancing out between the two worlds and sometimes even bringing them together.

.

.

.

Tell us what you know about copyright.

Copyright is a legal right created by the law of a country that grants the creator of an original work exclusive rights for its use and distribution. This is usually only for a limited time. The exclusive rights are not absolute but limited by limitations and exceptions to copyright law, including fair use. A major limitation on copyright is that copyright protects only the original expression of ideas, and not the underlying ideas themselves.

(Wikipedia said it better than I ever could have).

.

.

.

Discuss the impact of a Performing Rights Organization.

We’d probably have to hire a PRO expert to give a proper salesman speech on this subject but I’m glad organizations like these exist.

.

.

.

Elaborate on how you develop your melody and instrumentation.

I approach every song differently from a writing standpoint but generally love to begin with production (either branching out on an existing idea or starting from scratch), then progressing to the melody top lining.

.

.

.

Go into detail on the recording process of this song.

I recorded this song in my old apartment in the later season of 2016. I came up with the vocal melody at school, and then used my friend’s drum machine to come up with the percussive elements to build up around the song draft. This was followed by the recording of the atmospheric synths and general nuances.

.

.

.

Discuss your music performance.

Currently, I like performing solo either with a backing track or playing guitar (or hell, just singing). With that said, my dream is to eventually build a professional band around my career, to bring out the additional live element and spontaneity.

.

.

.

Tell us how you will rate yourself as an artist.

Timi Tamminen/10.

.

.

.

State the official date of release.

My second EP doesn’t have an official release date yet; I’m toying around with different ideas of releasing music while randomly dropping singles once I feel like they’re ready for that. You can follow my updates – as well as my general visual side – on Instagram, my profile being @thetimitamminen.
