NelyLand

Tell us your real names, country of birth and childhood experience.

My name is Nelson Sergean, but my movement is Nelyland. I’m from a deep part of Nigeria, West Africa, holding a dream much bigger than a single continent or as far as the world goes.
My childhood memories aren’t mostly pleasant, as I do not come from Disney world. Growing up wasn’t a fairy tale. And the separation of my parents only made it worse as I suffered, along with my kid sister, too many painful experiences from stepmothers and other side difficulties. I was mostly on the run in search of greener pastures and then eventually lost my mother. Things got even more complicated but I’m thankful for everything because my experiences will shape me into a star. And I’m going to do just what a star does. Shine!

I believe there are lots of people struggling out there to find the light and I want to help them realize that the spark is already in them and they should just believe and let it shine.

.

.

Tell us your academic qualification.

My academic qualifications are limited due to inadequate funds. Education where I come from is really expensive and also complicated in most ways than others, for this reason I had to sideline my college education till further notice. And maybe it wasn’t really meant for me. Nevertheless, I was fortunate enough to complete my secondary/high school education with very good grades.

.

.

.

Tell us about your music career, band name, musical background, experience and skills.

My movement/stage name is Nelyland. I’m not just a regular artiste, but also one telling iconic tales that will go down in history.

It’s been really hard building my career, could barely pay for record sessions and promos and also met some jealous people along the way who didn’t want to see me prosper and whom tried, in many ways, to create a negative environment around me in order to stop me from chasing my dream.

My Dad is a major factor concerning my musical talent. He loves music so much and he’s my first source of music and the reason I love music as well. If you were privileged to visit my home, you’d see giant speakers and literally uncountable CD racks. There’s a deep freezer in my home that is no longer in use… A huge one, it’s filled to the brim with musical plates of different genres, from reggae to blues to African beats to rap to hip hop, and just name it. Whatever kind of music you can think of, we have it.
While most kids have a childhood filled with movie memories, mine is filled with music. I remember how I’d be left alone at home and I’d just listen to music for hours. I literally played every single disc. I’ve been listening to music all my life so my brain is filled with rhythms. That’s why I’m not actually restricted to a single genre. Though I have some specialized areas, I am flexible and can make music of different genres while creating my own special sound. I think music is too good to be stuck or limited to a single genre. As long as its good music, let’s all get in the groove.

.

.

.

Tell us about your genre, concept and idea behind your music video and the song.
My sound is a mixture of feelings and emotions that can be best described by the force of music itself.
Like I said earlier I’m not restricted to a single genre but I’m a bit more focused on bringing Afro music to higher heights. My track “Irresistible” is a fusion of afrobeat, soul, and rhythm and blues. But that single is NOTHING compared to what I got on the way for the world so spread the word! Watch out, and stay tuned!

.

.

.

Tell us how to run a record label independently and successfully based on your experience as an artist.

I am an artist to an independent label. My CEO says that emotional intelligence, adaptability, empathy, and hunger are major traits needed in the industry.

.

.

.

Tell us how you are promoting your music.
Via various methods, including but not limited to online and word to word advertising.

.

.

.

Tell us what makes you happy and what makes you sad.

One word to answer both questions. ‘LIFE’.
It won’t be a secret to say that music makes me happy. But generally, although life makes me sad sometimes, it also makes me happy. My family, loved ones, and real supporters do make me happy as well but nothing gives you greater joy than seeing your dreams manifest.

I try not to think too much about my past because it makes me sad sometimes, and the thought that there are possibly others out there struggling really makes me sad. Thus, one of my reasons for chasing this dream and becoming successful is to help as much as I can anyway I can. I’m not just making music because of the goodies that come with it. People actually need it to live life. I want to make music that will inspire the world, one way or the other to be better. You know, play my part in this big universe and help mother Earth heal and become a better home for the highest good of all.

.

.

.

Explain clearly the story or concept behind the song.
My soon to be out track “SunRise” is a briefly summarized story of my life and how I’ve come to build my career.
“Irresistible” on the other hand is about a lover of old whom I happen to run across at a club/bar, without an intention to love and hold anybody that night. But because of her perfect beauty and sexy body, I found it very difficult to resist her advances and seduction, falling in love over again with her.

Tell us about other members of your band, music producer, crew or music video director, how the song was recorded and how the music video was shot.
My teammates include King Uche, the boss himself, and Swami Uchiha.
Believe me when I say we are not “your regular type of rappers”.
The world should really pay close attention to us because we are the future and our sound would speak for itself.
I recorded “Irresistible” around mid 2017 and kind of kept it aside for some reasons waiting for the right time to step out. Though I encountered some unfortunate events that aided in the delay.

.

.

.

Tell us how long you have been in the music industry, your experience and your future goal.

I’ve been into music since I was just a kid but started recording around 2011 and have been underground ever since until now. My experiences haven’t been the most pleasant. In Nigeria, no matter how much talent you have you just need more to be able to come out. You need the grace of God as well as money. But I always knew I was stirring my ship through the right path and it led me to the Sufferings and Offerings The Label. My future goal as I’ve stated earlier is to create iconic music, one that hasn’t been written before, one filled with multiple Grammy awards, irrespective of the fact that I’m just an ordinary boy who has lived most of his life Under African Skies.

.

.

.

Tell us what makes you unique from others.
Most artistes are focused on a specific music genre, my own uniqueness is that I can blend in anything as long as it’s good music and feeds the soul. Also, I am really creative with my work, basically, I am art in human form and I’m just using music as the major way to express my design.

.

.

.

Tell us your weakness and strength pertaining music.

I’m like a paradox; my weakness is also my strength.
Most people might feel I do not have the best singing voice or cannot hit the highest note. But on the other hand, I can hit the lowest and in the most beautiful way. People need to understand that there’s no such thing as weakness. Just discover your true self and grow with it. If you are taller than me, then I am shorter than you. If you are fairer than me then I am darker than you, but you can’t have it both ways so while you have your own advantage, I have mine.  No need for comparisons. Let’s just grow.

.

.

.

Tell us the instruments put together in this song.
“Irresistible” is a combo of African drum beats, soul and piano with some electronic R&B sounds.

.

.

.

Tell us other activities you will like to pursue apart from music.
I stated earlier that I’m art, in human form, an upgraded blueprint of humanity. From childhood I’ve always been interested in arts in all form. I write poems, novels, draw, etc. I just had greater passion for music and directed more energy there but I am still working on my other talents. I’m very interested in the entertainment and film industry so I may very much consider acting in the long run. Notify Hollywood. 😀

.

.

.

Tell us about gaining the confidence to sing in front of a large crowd for the first time.

It’s my love for music that has gotten me this far, therefore, when I stand in front of that large crowd, it’s the same love that would spur me to entertain them effectively, love and passion for the music, and love for the fans who love and support me. I’m just going to be expressing myself.

.

.

.

Tell us the best way to make money in the music business.
Through sold out show tickets I guess.

.

.

.

Narrate your recording experience.
This also depends on the producer recording me but I have been recording since 2011.
