Phonosapiens

Tell us everything will need to know about you.

The group Phonosapiens is D.J. Defect on production in collaboration with different artists. Defect won the US DMC online team battle in 2015. Rahman Jamal who raps on ‘Over’ won the John Lennon song writing contest in 2016 in the hip hop category. He was also starred in the movie titled “The Beat”. Phonosapiens music has been on TV, film and commercials since the early 2000s.

.

.

State your favourite genre of music and your reason.

Trip hop. It’s the most diverse genre in my opinion.

.

.

.

Tell us your experience as a musician.

Terrible. The business side of things kills the enthusiasm to work.

.

.

.

Tell us the theme of your song.

Just saying that now that we’re here; the game is over.

.

.

.

Name the people behind your success and thank them on this platform.

D.J. Chopps, Quixotic, Ostrich Head, GoBig Entertainment.

.

.

.

Tell us about your future goals.

I’d like to get out an album of original music, a mashup album and do short projects in film.

.

.

.

Go into detail about your opinion on religion and politics.

Religion: I think everyone worships something and since we have an innate desire to do so, I believe there is a God that puts that desire in us.

Politics: I think both sides are crazy and being a career politician shouldn’t be an option.

.

.

.

Elaborate on how you think your music is inspiring your fans.

I hope that they can look at life from a more playful perspective when they listen to my work.

.

.

.

Explain the changes you have observed so far in the music industry.

No middle ground exists anymore. You’re a pop star or a nobody; disappointing.

.

.

.

State the artists you cherish most and your reason.

D.J. Shadow, Cut Chemist, Diplo, Krush, Operation IVY, Q-bert. Reason being, all of them in some ways inspired me to become disciplined and then let loose.

.

.

.

Give us the links to your social network and stores.

I avoid social media at all costs right now. Too many people I don’t get along with. 😦

.

.

.

Elaborate on how you develop your lyrics.

Lyrics have to complement and play with the production or band or whatever and then be reexamined to add something extra.

.

.

.

Tell us if you enjoy collaborating with other artists or just singing as a solo artist.

They’re equal. Too much of either will drive you crazy.

.

.

.

Brief us your opinion on making music that makes people to dance or making the kind of music with genuine message that inspires them.

Hopefully both. Public Enemy talked about getting people to dance in order to convey a message. I’m not making stuff for the club but I hope it hits and makes people move. Especially b-boys.

.

.

.

Tell us what you know about copyright.

I don’t deal in it. I’ve done lots of licensing though.

.

.

.

Discuss the impact of a Performing Rights Organization.

It’s absolutely necessary for artists to be treated fairly. Some countries don’t have royalty systems in place and artists just get boned by big companies. No where’s perfect but the US is better than a lot of places.

.

.

.

Elaborate on how you develop your melody and instrumentation.

I always try to take a different approach to each song to keep it interesting and not feel like work.

.

.

.

Go into detail on the recording process of this song.

MPC, Ableton Live, Mastered in Cubase.

.

.

.

Discuss your music performance.

We try to keep it funky and made a lot of change to keep people interested. One of my pals even stood up in parts of the set.

.

.

.

State the official date of release.

No idea. Technically I’m not even sure if this is officially released yet.

.

.

.

State your artist’s name and elaborate on it.

Phonosapiens. Just sounds cool. (We were the first to use the name from the late 90s).

.

.

.

State the title of the song and the meaning.

Over…. it’s over.

.

.

.

State the title of the album and the reason for picking the title.

Phonosynthesis. Creating energy out of sound (as opposed to light).
