Joey Green was born in Springfield, Massachusetts in 1959. He formed his first band with high school buddies when he was 16 years-old. The band was called “OZ” and performed music from Led Zeppelin, Kansas, Neil Young, Charlie Daniels, Boston, Blue Oyster Cult, The Allman Brothers and Bruce Springsteen. He is a prolific songwriter and lyricist. His main instruments are voice, piano and the Hammond organ.
In 1984, Joey re-located to New York City. There he teamed up with bassist/producer Brian Stanley and formed an indie rock band called the “Jury”. The Jury had minor success with their first EP release entitled “Shyboy” in 1988 (Kangaroo records).
In May of 2000, Joey immigrated to Vienna and has been performing in various bands focusing on the music of Ray Charles, James Brown, Stevie Wonder and more recently—Billy Joel.
Joey Green is serious about songwriting.
“Real songwriting is a craft. For me, it’s best to start with an idea that has been sparked by some emotional feeling, experience or event. I enjoy writing about the ups and downs of life. The joy and tragedy of it. Life is truly a magical thing. The fact that we exist at all is astounding! Life is also fleeting and extremely delicate. I want to reflect on this experience for as long as possible, for as long as time allows”.
In 2018, Joey Green is focusing 100% of his artistic energy on original music.
After a long break from songwriting, Joey is once again recording, producing and promoting his original music with Joey Green Band. The band features some of Vienna’s most talented and sought after musicians.
“Love, Love, Love”, “Trumpty Dumpty”, “I’m Comin’ On To You”, ” In The Doghouse Again” and “Livin’ On Borrowed Times” are just a few of Joey Green Band’s most recent offerings.
These songs are all available on Spotify and iTunes.
Joey Green has been rocking and writing songs for most of his 58 years. He has this advice for aspiring songwriters.
“Appreciate your time here and remember what is really important to you. Focus on the positive aspects of your life but also explore the negativity. Make every moment count. Don’t be afraid to create a musical reality for yourself that you can be proud of!”
