Timi Tamminen

Tell us about yourself.

I’m a Finnish 23-year old artist/producer, currently living in London.

Tell us about yourself as an artist.

My work fuses hip hop and rock in a fresh way, as my roots are equally in both grounds. I like to do things myself in a DIY-fashion, as well as putting emphasis on my type of melodic singing which combines various rock-/soul-influences.

.

Tell us about the genre of your music.

As stated previously, my style is an eclectic mixture of hip hop and rock, and I try to bring something new to the table with every release.

Tell us about the story behind your song.

“Whatever, Brother” is a sarcastic take on an artist’s bravado/delusions of grandeur as opposed to the reality. I wrote, performed and produced everything on the song myself, save for the drums that I composed with a friend of mine a long time ago: this song has actually existed since the late 2016 but I finally got around to releasing it the way I wanted to, as it still sounded fresh to this day.

Tell us about the problems you are facing as a musician.

The beginning is the hardest. You basically have to come up with unique ways of reaching influencers, something which I’m currently focusing on to bring my sound to a bigger audience.

.

Tell us about the recording and production of the song.

The song was produced a long time ago: it started out as a duo collar with my friend (we came up with the drums, the vibrant synth and some ambient guitars that can be found hidden deep behind the production) but we forgot about it for a while. A year later, I started writing the song, adding things like the 808s and all sorts of nuances, and also coming up with the melodic content for it.

List the names of blogs, radio or TV stations that have supported you so far.
There are so many blogs that – frankly- listing them all would take an eternity. I’ve contacted hundreds of people via email and DMs during the last six months.

Tell the kind of advice you will give to an upcoming artist.

Save your money for your artist career… You will need it, I’m afraid.
.

.

Discuss at length your music careers, albums, songs, tours, recognition or awards you might have obtained.

So far, I’ve only released loads of music and plan to do so for a while until the idea of touring actually becomes interesting to me.

.

Tell us how you write your lyrics, compose, sing and record in the studio.
There’s various ways to approach writing, and I consciously variate between different approaches to come up with different results. When it comes to recording… Let’s just say I’m intense.

Tell us about your happiest day and saddest day.

The saddest day of my life was me contemplating suicide, then being confronted by two of my friends. Since then, my life has slowly gotten better and better which I’m extremely glad of. It’s an experience that I cherish in a weird way because it taught me a lot about myself as well as people in general.

The greatest day of my life, there are so many of them! One of them was seeing Chris Cornell live in 2016 during his acoustic tour, then there were two amazing send-offs before I moved to London in 2017 (which in itself was the greatest choice of my life), one of those nights involving MDMA and a bunch of great friends. Living in London is a streak of the greatest days, plus the greatest of the greatest days are still ahead.

Tell us how you will spend a million dollars.

Invest, invest, invest.

No ideas how I make it happen, to be honest. Some days ARE very busy.

State the official date of release.

My next album comes out somewhere this year, probably in the late summer. It doesn’t have a name yet, but a lot of the songs are almost ready for a release.

State your artist’s name and elaborate on it.

I was born Timi Aleksi Tamminen, that’s all.
