SINGLE AVAILABLE DIGITALLY TODAY
After a stunning performance at the Australian Embassy in Washington DC, in front of guests including the Australian Prime Minister, Malcolm Turnbull, Australia’s Ambassador to the United States, the Hon. Joe Hockey, State Premiers and American Governors, Amber Lawrence officially releases her rousing and poignant self-penned song ‘100 Year Handshake’ celebrating mateship.
“Amber’s song, “100 Year Handshake” was the centre piece of the Mateship Gala Reception held on February 23rd, at the Australian Embassy in Washington DC. In the presence of the largest Australian political and trade delegation to ever visit the United States, including Prime Minister Turnbull, Amber performed her tribute to those who fought and lost their lives for our freedom. In celebration of a century of friendship, loyalty and solidarity, we look forward to the next 100 years to the tune of the “100 Year Handshake”, said Australia’s Ambassador to the United States, the Hon. Joe Hockey.
It was early 2017 that Amber sat down to research and write a brand new song – “100 Year Handshake” – focusing specifically on the 100 years of mateship between Australia and the United States – fighting side by side in every major military conflict since WWI.
As Amber describes it, “I spent a long time researching the meaning and importance of the first 100 years of mateship between Australia and the USA. A song can only say so much, so I focused mainly on the story of Leslie ‘Bull’ Allen – and his heroics in carrying out wounded American soldiers on Mt Tambu in WW2. I also refer to Australia’s assistance during transmission of Apollo 11 and the romantic story of our War Brides. I don’t delve into politics – it’s a song of mateship and friendship, trust, pride and love”.
The song resonated strongly and Amber was invited to perform it at a gala dinner in New York at the event commemorating the 75th Anniversary Battle of the Coral Sea with the American Australian Association in front of dignitaries and celebrities including surviving American and Australian veterans who fought in this battle, The Prime Minister of Australia, Malcolm Turnbull and The President of the United States, Donald Trump. When Amber was asked if she’d like to be involved, given her lengthy involvement and support of veterans affairs, RSL Defence Care and the RSL, it was an immediate ‘yes’.
In 2018 Amber was awarded 3 Golden Guitars for her collaboration with Travis Collins ‘Our Backyard’ – a song that sings of the beauty of Australia. Amber has been crowned CMC ‘Female Artist of the Year’ 2015 & 2016 and the 2015 Golden Guitar ‘Female Artist of the Year‘; amongst many other accolades and feathers to her bow such as hosting the red carpet for the awards nights and a relentless touring schedule.
