Nicki Kris is a singer/songwriter based in Raleigh, North Carolina. Her music has captured an international audience since the soul styling of her debut album release “I Come Alive” in 2013. Her songs have been featured in award-winning movies, TV shows, and on radio stations worldwide, and she has been on the official ballot for the Grammy Awards for the past five years (she has placed in the categories Song Of The Year, Record Of The Year, Best Pop Solo Performance, and Best Pop Album).
Nicki’s unique and powerful diva-style voice is reminiscent of classic singers such as Cilla Black, Dusty Springfield, and Pat Benatar, while her songwriting takes a decidedly modern turn, regardless of the genre.
Nicki’s latest release, “Heartbeat” is the follow-on to last summer’s smash hit “Captain America”, and the 2nd single off her upcoming album with the same title scheduled for release this June. “Heartbeat” takes a very different approach, yet continuing the story line introduced with “Captain America” around the continuous 24-hour-a-day turmoil surrounding the current US Commander In Chief, the various sexual misconduct scandals, and how there is never an opportunity to come up for air before another international “embarrassment” occurs. Despite its negative viewpoint, the song does have a hopeful message, as sung in the bridge: “I’ve got to fight through the fear, things are not how they appear, and I’ve got the truth on my side. You are not winning the war, ’cause I can take this and more, and I will make this right again.” So, although each day has us dealing with more bad news, lies, manipulations, and distortions, there will always be hope, and love will always win. Nicki is an active voting member of The Recording Academy and is currently working on multiple projects including her third album.
