RNV

Tell us your real names, country of birth and childhood experience.
Hey there, my name is Roni Vadnai. Despite the Hungarian surname, I was born and raised in Israel. Nowadays I’m leaving in the colorful neighborhood Florentin in the south of Tel Aviv.

Tell us your academic qualification.

I’ve got a B.A in Psychology and Sociology. I also minored in Journalism. As far as it comes to musical education, I always felt more comfortable within the auto-didact path. I took private vocal lessons and guitar playing lessons for years as a teenager and then as a young adult.

Tell us about your music career, band name, musical background, genre, experience and skills.

My stage name is RNV, initials for Roni Vadnai. My current project based on electronic beats surrounded by live and kicking instruments like electric guitar, bass and cello. There’s even a live glockenspiel! I was drawn to the worlds of trip-hop, down-tempo, electro-rock and alternative since forever so in the past I’ve heard a few live music projects based on these inspirations. I’m playing on acoustic guitar and electric guitar but when it comes to live shows with my band I rather be focused on singing. When I’m doing more intimate gigs only with my guitar playing that I’m also playing on Omnichord and on Casio’s mini-keys.

Explain clearly the story or concept behind the song.

This song was written on my best friend. Her name is also Roni. She’s my red swan due to her redhead-afro bubbly temper and I am her black swan due to my dark hair and dark side that is very present in my life (for bad but also for good!). That’s what I love about that song – the fact that it’s a love song, but a contemporary one. It’s about platonic love, which sometimes can be much stronger than a romantic kind of love.

Tell us about other members of your band, music producer, crew or music video director, how the song was recorded and how the music video was shot.
I was lucky enough to work with two of the most talented and amazing people on earth – my producers Or Bahir and Lee Triffon. Both are bad-ass musicians, ex-members of the Israeli Prog-Rock band EATLIZ, which was very successful abroad. Lee lives in LA and Or lives in Tel Aviv so you could say it was a very interesting experience. My music video was directed, shot and edited by the ultra-talented Adam Shuldman. He was also in charge of my previous music video “Laces”.

Tell us how long you have been in the music industry, your experience and your future goal.
I’ve been around for the last decade, but mostly performing live with different projects that I created. 3 years ago I started recording my debut EP and here we are now. 🙂

Tell us what makes you unique from others.
I guess that what makes me different from others is just being me. I keep trying to shush these inner voices and white noises in order to avoid from pointless comparisons to others. I’m just trying to focus on extracting the best version of me. And on breathing.

.

.

.

Tell us your weakness and strength pertaining music.
Both my weakness and strength sprout of the same places – me being attached and vulnerable when it comes to open up my heart and just let it bleed in front of others. It makes me 100% authentic and but also very exposed.
