Tell us how long you have been in the music business.

I have been making music for over a decade now where I began simply writing lyrics at the age of 14.

Elaborate on your music career, band name, experience and skills.

My artist name is basically my surname and started off with a group of friends calling me ‘Marchy’ which stuck and so I decided to carry on with it as my artist name.

I also go by the moniker ‘The Kidd’. This is what my uncle would call me whenever he saw me.

The journey started with writing lyrics, trying to find out what kind of artist I wanted to be lyrically and find myself. Eventually that passion grew and grew where I was hassling producers for beats as I was now beginning to write songs at the age of 16.

Producers at the time were asking for money that I did not have. Eventually whilst in college, I learnt how to use Cubase and started producing my own music. Studying music technology really helped me understand sound, so much so that not only can I produce, I mix and master as well as a sound engineer. I refer to myself as a one man army as I have taught myself all the skills needed, from an artist’s perspective, to create and release my own music. I now do this under my record label 27 Mile Records.

I birthed the name from always being a hard worker, and having the thought of ‘life is a marathon’. It’s important to always go that extra mile, especially for something that you’re so passionate about.

Tell us your genre and idea behind your music video and the song.

‘Not Like Me’ is a hip-hop track that packs a punch. It explores 2 rappers (Marchy and Vandle) going at it lyrically expressing their individuality and uniqueness. I wanted the song to be more about the lyrics which was why the heavy sounding drums are not accompanied with a melody until the guitar comes in at the end to build to a climax.

The music video shot by Dman and Capes, explores myself and Vandle in the streets of East London and in a studio where we are performing alongside each other or for contrast, against each other.
