Starting out as a solo singer songwriter, David Nolf started out doing open mics at the age of 16 learning the ins and outs of performing in front of a crowd. Beginning to write songs and picking up the guitar and piano again seemed like a natural progression. David then met up with a few musicians and began what would form into “One and One”. In 2009 David Nolf formed the self-titled, “The David Nolf Band” The Band went through many stages of development and had input and stylings from a few different musicians leading to the 2012 EP “The Making Of”. Before the final members had come into their own, the EP album “The Making Of” had been released in April of 2012 boasting much more reformed performances showcasing the band had been shaping and molding their sound with melodic and at times haunting songwriting from singer David Nolf where he was able to convey meaningful messages through his lyrics. The EP was recorded in Robby Takac of the Goo Goo Dolls GCR studios. David then felt the need to address the current bullying issue and wrote a song called “Dear Jonah” after being inspired by a YouTube video of a brave boy who posted his story online. The band was eager to hop in the studio and finished the song as it seemed to just fall into place. They have also gone to meetings and is looking into doing an anti-bullying tour to promote a positive message for today’s youth and the epidemic of bullying currently plaguing the country. David has taken its sound to new heights and is only rising higher and higher. From playing the local bar scene to opening for major acts such as 3 Doors Down, USS, Marianas Trench America and more. David continues to pursue ultimate creativity and passion in his music from slow to upbeat tempos styling pop/rock, indie and still utilizing their unique sound. David released its first full-length album “We Say” while sharing the stage with 3 Doors Down at Artpark summer of 2014. With a receptive crowd of over twelve thousand it was night to be remembered to say the least. The 12 tracks have a little bit of everything for each individual listener to be able to find an easy favorite. Taking tracks from the previous EP’s, unreleased recordings and 2 brand new tracks The David Nolf Band seems to have found a perfect rhythm in which they can produce new music ready for mass release. Now 10 years after his first EP release Nolf has moved to Beverly Hills California and releasing his newest effort titled “Fake It Till You Make it.” Featuring four new tracks that have been in the works for over two years. Due for official release in March of 2018.

Go into detail on why you love music as a career.

Honestly it’s the only thing I do that consumes me and is enjoyable even when it’s frustrating. There’s nothing I’ve ever done that makes me feel the way I do when writing or performing music. From the people you meet or work with to the satisfaction of finishing a song or set and leaving feeling satisfied. It’s the only thing I’ve loved doing since I began songwriting and performing at 16 years old.

.

.

.

Brief us the feedbacks you are getting from fans on your music.

I’ve been getting great feedback on the newest EP I just released this passed month at the same time I moved to L.A. So it has been quite exciting and have had many reach out and let me know the tunes are catchy and that they’ve been on repeat. Out of all the records I’ve made this one has more energy and heavily influenced by my new tastes in music.

.

.

.

.

Discuss the relevance of social networking to music.

Social media is king these days. It’s a must and also a great way to connect with fans that would have never heard your art. Even if your music is not the first connection they make, perhaps a photo or video they see that makes them dive into your profile and find more. I think those are the best fans. The ones who had no intention of finding your music but then stumble upon it and become bigger fans than some that heard other ways.

.

.

.

Tell us how you record your song.

This EP self-titled “Fake It Till You Make It’ was my first record I fully engineered and produced myself. With about two years from this song’s conception to the final product I have over 100 versions of the song and finally after tweaking and arranging I came to where it stands now. I just used my MacBook Pro and a cheap audio interface and purchased a few plugins and worked my way through it. Learning new tricks as I went along and really taught myself how to engineer from start to finish.

.

.

.

Tell us the story behind the song.

Well honestly a lot of my songs start with a theme or title and I sort of sing whatever comes to my head and keep what I like. “Fake It Till You Make It” was in my head that day and with my move to California in the works I was feeling as that was the perfect theme for this record and turned out to be this song. Once I had that theme and some lyrics it became a sort of hybrid of where I felt in my music career with the metaphor of a love song about leaving someone behind and then being with them in the end.

.

.

.

State your musical skills.

Vocals, Songwriter, Producer, Guitar and Piano.

.

.

.

Tell us how long it takes to complete a song from the start.  They are all different honestly…Some songs take 15 minutes to write and maybe an hour to piece together and others take years or may never be finished.

.

.

.

Go into detail on how you develop your lyrics and melody.

As I mentioned in earlier I had the theme of “Fake It Till You Make It” in my head from a music stand point. I was thinking how once people hear your song on the radio or you have some fame everything changes and it blows up. So in order to achieve the never ending climb up the music career mountain sometimes you have to fake it till you make it to get there until it’s real and you have to pinch yourself. The melodies just kind of come to my head as I sing the lyrics with the chords. Sometimes I go back and check spots that I feel are weaker and less catchy and with midi you can do all kinds of magic with melodies as far as the music side goes.

.

.

.

State your five favourite genres of music with reasons.

Pop – because that’s what first got me into music. Artists like John Mayer and Maroon 5 were my biggest influences in the beginning.

Rock – because what teenage boy doesn’t go through a rock phase and it gave me energy.

Electronic – is my newest influence of the last few years as it has shaped some of my newest work and I just love the freedom and energy it brings to a crowd. I like having a crowd dancing around having a good time.

Alt rock – where you can experiment with crazy guitar pedals and find new influences there.

Rap – also has some influences on me as I grew up on Eminem and Jay Z. I think rappers that actually have substance to their lyrics.

.

.

.

Discuss your rehearsal.

I usually practice solo and go through my parts then once I have that locked in the group practices start. Typically relaxed for the first bit and then try not to force anything but just let the music flow…Unless there’s a big show the next day then we practice gruelingly until it’s perfect.

.

.

.

State your favourite musical instruments.

Guitar and Piano.

.

.

.

Describe the chemistry between you and your fans during a live performance.

You just know when you have a crowd engaged and then you also find out quickly when you don’t. Can’t win them all as they say but if you can at least get one person or hopefully more in each room that’s loving what you are doing then you did your job.

.

.

.

Discuss your personality in full details.

I’m a little bit shy at first when not onstage at least. Then as I build relationships with people I can be a little freer and a bit of a wise ass sometimes. But I just like to enjoy life and good people. Avoid negativity and just be a good person as it comes back.

.

.

.

Discuss your music career.

I’ve been performing since the age of 16 in front of people and building an audience. Been through a few phases of music and a few different musicians. Good times and bad. I’ve done some traveling and some bigger opener shows in front of thousands. I feel my music has progressed and looking for the next step and path that takes me further and continues.

I think my first big memorable moment was when I opened for America at an outdoor venue where there was over 20,000 people.

.

.

.

State your artist’s name and elaborate on it.

My birth name is David Nolf.

.

.

.

State the title of the song and the meaning.

“Fake It Till You Make It” – Trying to achieve your dreams sometimes you have to pretend you’re a little closer than you really are.

.

.

.

State the title of the album and the reason for choosing the title.

“Fake It Till You Make It”, I chose it because that’s kind of where I feel I’m at I’m not where I want to finish my career but I’ve accomplished much more than I thought I could when I started. Just have to keep pushing it to get to the next level then repeat.

Brief us on how to impress fans during a live performance.

Having a good product (music) to present as an artist is the first step to being financially successful as an artist and also the work ethic that’s provided by the artist; you bring swagger with full pure energy. Also being able to perform your music at its highest level with no hesitation – these things bring belief in your fans as well as supporters.

.

.

.

List the names of your biggest supporters.

I get a lot of support from my relatives and peers but I also have supporters who I’ve never met but my biggest supporters come from DJs and fans all across the world; I thank them all.

.

.

.

Explain what has motivated you so far in your music career.

Life as a musician teaches us how to be pleasant and honest. The lifestyle we live growing up around violence and drugs can take heavy influence on anyone’s life. This has pushed and motivated me to be better and do things differently. Also the legend who was once members of hip hop who had the same similar lifestyle also motivated me to never give up in what I do.

.

.

.

Discuss your experience as an artist.

As an artist I feel great to be able to form and create art that the world could relate to and also to express my opinions on the things I’ve accomplished and what I can teach others.

.

.

.

Tell us the biggest mistake you have ever made in your music career.

Being an indie artist, one will make mistakes but I don’t have any regrets and I will say that music can be a headache with all the outrageous prices.

.

.

.

Discuss the story behind the song.

My music is a form or respect and an honor to my culture. My music talks more about my lifestyle, background, family and God.  It’s a motivational message to the ones who love hearing true music.

.

.

.

Discuss your opinion on the safety of fans during shows and live performances.

Safety is very important; so having security is well needed for any musician show knowing that the fans can be very excited and strange things can take place at shows. There should always be a form of security during shows.

.

.

.

Tell us the greatest piece of advice someone has given you as an artist.

I have met a lot of DJs, artists and producers. I was always advised never to give up in the start and I should make sure I got the right flow for everyone to vibe off and relate to, and also rehearse every day.

.

.

.

Tell us what you will improve or change in your music.

I love to have a unique style when performing; 2pac, B.I.G, Ice Cube – these artist paved the way for great music today they had a heavy influence on the hip hop culture.

.

.

.

Tell us the greatest problem you think is facing the society and the solution.

We face difficult time throughout our everyday life.

.

.

.

Discuss your songwriting and recording.

I do write and produce my own music, and also a song writer for other fellow artist.

.

.

.

State your artist’s name and elaborate on it.

Yung Cheeze; I had made this name up back when I first decided that music was going to be what I wanted to be a part of.

DS 787

What do you get when you mix up-tempo club beats, jazz notations, the roots of R&B with a slight dash of afro-centric rhythms? You get Distinguished Sounds 787! DS 787, for short, has been performing throughout the country and abroad to the delight of sell-out crowds for the last year or so. Now with their debut CD, entitled “Uniquely Done”, the listening public can own a copy of the magic that transpires when they come together. Brought together by somewhat of a freak occurrence at the baggage claim at LaGuardia Airport, whereas each went to their destination with the others suitcase. After constant contact with the lost baggage department, the airline finally got them together. And they have been making distinguished sounds ever since.

So as to ensure the highest level of success for their debut, DS 787 has made sure that every I is dotted and every T is crossed. As it is their philosophy that an artist has one shot to put their product out there to the masses, if they don’t come right, there is no second chance.

The songs on the CD include some of the work which they’ve been performing live over the last year. If the response that they have been receiving at their live performances is any indication, this CD is bound to be a smash. While many have been unsure as to how best to categorize their music, Distinguished Sounds describes their art form as pure Jazzation.
