Piet Louter

Piet Louter is a singer/songwriter from the Netherlands born in 1953 with songs about social issues and personal things. There’re 2 albums out now; “The Fair Story” from 2015 and “Footprints In The Sand” from 2016.

Born in 1953 I started making music (my first love) from my childhood up. When I was 15, I wrote my first songs and I went on writing better and better, resulting in recording a single in 1977 at EMI. Meanwhile I was a singer/guitar player in several cover-bands but in 1987 I was tired of making music and it was time to do my second love; working on a farm.

For twenty years I spent my time with driving tractors, milking cows and all the other hard work as a hand.

But blood is thicker than water and like many other musicians and that age; I got a mind to make music again.

Earned enough money for living for the rest of my life, I made myself familiar with digital recording with endless possibilities, wrote new songs and in 2012 I had enough stuff to release my album “Footprints In The Sand”, which I only released regional.

And I went on and on, writing new songs and recording and in 2015 I finished my second album “The Fair Story”.

It’s the fair story about power, religion, indoctrination, oppression, exploitation, the human race, overpopulation, people, death and belief in God.

In 2016 I worked on a remix of my album “Footprints In The Sand”, as I was unhappy with the sound of the 2012 version and brought it to the world in the Fall of 2016. This album is about my life, starting on how I returned to music after a twenty years intermission. Then it’s about some events in my life losing some beloved friends but also about nature and how I think about life and death. Further on, on this 16 track album, it sounds like a parting, but I hope it’s not!

State your favourite genre of music and your reason.

Folk music – because of the subtlety of it.

Tell us the theme of your song.

Song title speaks for itself as well as the lyrics:

POWER-HUNGRY MEN

Words & Music by: Piet Louter

It started on their toddler ages; some guys stole the show

And put themselves on higher stages, were fated just to grow

Into people of importance, who we can’t neglect

To pay them with the highest wages and be held in great respect

Then they gave themselves the finest places, from where they run the show

And where they easily can hide their faces and no-one gets to know

Just the real things, what they’re up to; who they really are

So we only see their loving graces and their artificial star

And all the world is bowing to these kind and gentle kings

But nobody seems to notice, that we’re bowing on their strings

I cry for the dying world,

For having to see, that everything is in their hands

I die for the shining pearl

That earth could be without these power-hungry men

They filled their talks, so promissory, with the whole bag of their tricks

And they saddled us up with fairy-stories, and they just know how to fix

It in the minds of silly people at their special schools,

Where we faithfully learned to live according to their oppressive rules.

And all the world is dancing to their inharmonic tunes.

But nobody seems to notice, that we’re dancing on their ruins.

I cry for the dying world,

For having to see, that everything is in their hands.

I die for the shining pearl

That earth could be without these power-hungry men.

Name the people behind your success and thank them on this platform.

No one to name or to thank, because I’m doing the job all by myself, except maybe the people who loved to see me come back to music 10 years ago.

.

.

Tell us your future goals.

Working on two more albums and bring it to the world ASAP.

Analyze the transformations you have discovered so far in the music industry.

Great opportunities in digital recording and producing.

But all the financial risks are now laid down in the artist’s pocket and there’s not much money in there, so it will be the end of much musical careers and finally the death of the music industry.

.

.

.

State the artists you cherish most and your reason.

Jackson Browne is my most cherished artist because of his wonderful music in the seventies.

.

.

.

Elaborate on how you develop your lyrics.

English is not my common language, so it’s a hard job to do using dictionaries and quotes.

.

.

.

Tell us if you enjoy collaborating with other artists or just singing as a solo artist.

I’m a typical one man artist.

.

.

.

Brief us your opinion on making music that makes people to dance or making the music with a genuine message that inspires them.

Don’t like dancing at all, so I rather try to inspire people with a good and uncommon message.

.

.

.

Explain copyright.

I own all these rights of my songs.

.

.

.

Elaborate on how you develop your melody and instrumentation.

Melodies are coming up automatically when playing some chords on the guitar.

If it’s good enough and I hear a certain arrangement in it, it’s time to write lyrics on it ending up in recording.

.

.

.

Go into detail on the recording of this song.

I only do the vocals and acoustic guitar by myself; all the other things are developed and generated by software.

.

.

.

State your artist’s name and elaborate on it.

It’s just my own real name.

.

.

.

State the title of the album and the reason for choosing the title.

The stories people are told in essential issues (for example about life and death) are often proved as not true, this is the Fair Story about issues.
