Discuss your music career.

Currently the career is in limbo. I had taken some time off to focus on my studies and feel like a normal teen again. At first I was younger and the pressure was intense especially when it came down to branding yourself and meeting new people whom you may or may not meet again. It was very nerve racking at 13 years old. Being that I am now turning 18 in less than 2 months I feel more comfortable about getting back into the groove of things to finish UNDEFINED (debut record) as long as my college studies can coincide with recording.

Tell us how you write lyrics to your song.

Initially I am attracted to a song through its title. So automatically when I saw GALLERY OF FOOLS written by a lyricist my manager had found the melody ran straight through my head. In fact I figured why not transition from a sad ballad I had made from my song HIDDEN to an upbeat love song.

Discuss your life outside the music world.

My life is at this moment an ongoing roller coaster. Right now I am preparing to go to college this coming fall. I am slowly transitioning from a child to a mini grown up. Most importantly I am taking life on a day to day basis and am excited to see what’s next.

State your reason for choosing music as a career.

There is no career as of now currently. I know my team is currently looking for labels to sign with in order to finish UNDEFINED. If God has a plan for me in the world of music I will definitely take it. My dream is to be a singer but if that is not the chosen path, then college and becoming a criminal prosecutor is something that interests me greatly.

Elaborate on your artist’s name.

My artist’s name is simply my formal government. To be completely honest I could not think of a stage name. It has frequently popped up in my mind that there was nothing wrong with just being YOU. It’s your own truth that’s being sold through your music anyways so why not your own name. Plus, I felt my last name alone BESTMAN sounded pretty official so I am fine with it.

List your five favorite music videos with reasons.

Unforgettable by French Montana featuring Swae

Work by Rhianna

Who Run The World by Beyonce

Thriller by Micheal Jackson

Formation by Beyonce

All 5 of these music videos hold so much diversity and the vibes are so authentic to me. I mean Unforgettable the melody is so captivating that when the beat drops you’re automatically doing the little dance that French Montana was doing. It really hit home for me when I saw that the video was filmed in Africa, although not from my family’s country of Liberia, I still felt a connection because that’s what I saw growing up as a child in Africa. As for Work I am all for island vibes. Beyonce’s two videos are spectacular, she is all about female empowerment as am I. Kudos to Beyonce! As for the Thriller video, well it’s Michael and the choreography is simply out of this world. It still seems fresh today.

Tell us the source of your inspiration.

My source of inspiration comes from the Bible. I practice Christianity. Sometimes when I have no one to talk to, I kneel down and pray to God first. In the end the problems may still exist but the effects do not feel as harmful after praying and talking to God. I always find a way to accomplish things.

Tell your impressions on dealing with the paparazzi.

To be honest I rarely had to deal with the paparazzi when my initial music experience transpired. Even when I did the commercial for Target the coverage was rare. On one occasion there was literally one photographer standing outside of Fox 5 News and all I could do was smile. Although I do get fan mail from time to time and people send their music tracks for my perspective and opinions it is never bothersome. I think it’s pretty cool how much you can inspire people to do something no matter how old you are.

Elaborate on the recording of this song.

The song was produced by Nadim Issa at Let ’Em Records in Brooklyn, lyrics by Raymond Bach, melody and vocals by me. I felt like at that particular time I had so much to say and not knowing how to put it. All my feelings that I had considered to be wrapped up was considered the GALLERY and some of them had a lot to do with the experiences I had in my life that were considered “foolish.”

.

.

Tell us of any future projects you are involved in.

I would have to say that finishing my debut record UNDEFINED. After that we’ll see how it goes from there.

.

.

.

List all the names of those whom have supported you so far. Definitely my team that I had mentioned previously along with my manager Aziz Bey, my old music teacher from PS 22 whom I am still in contact with today, my family and most importantly myself.

.

.

.

Tell us your viewpoint of vocal auto tuning.

I feel vocal auto tuning is not for everyone. That is definitely another skill to enable besides singing. There’s so much you can use it on with a voice. Everyone’s vocal chords are different. So if you want to produce like that you have to be very careful that you don’t end up having something that sounds cartoonish or nonmusical. Honestly, if you have authentic vocals then don’t hide it, embrace it!

.

Tell us your thought on quality and quantity for the release of songs.

Quantity works hand in hand with quality. At times one can overshadow the other and that can have good or bad results. For example the song “Bad and Bougie” by Migos featuring Lil Uzi. Just the quality of the chorus alone in my opinion made the song as popular as it was. It definitely grabbed the younger generation’s attention for sure and to some extent older people as well, the best of both worlds. I feel like music now has become more about quality rather than quantity.

.

.

.

Tell us your viewpoints on comparing music to a non-music career.

Music for me defines a way of life. When it comes to opening up generally I have a hard time. With the sound of grace hidden feelings start to arise and I am able to vocalize my thoughts through melody. A non-music career could be just as fulfilling but in a different way perhaps. As I said whichever is the road chosen I will be successful.

.

.

.

Tell us your opinion on categorizing music into genres and sub genres.

I feel like categorizing music in these genres are wrong. Everyone has something different to offer at any given time. Just because someone relates more by making smooth soulful ballads, they shouldn’t be put into a box of R&B. Music is music.

.

.

.

State the genre of music you dislike.

I do not dislike a specific genre of music.

List your 5 favorite movies with reason.

MY COUSIN VINNY

BILLY MADISON

PRECIOUS

BLACK PANTHER

BIG DADDY

It was great to see an action movie with a black super hero, I love Adam Sandler, to me he is a legend, he does not even have to try hard, his vibe shines through the screen while watching him. My Cousin Vinny is just a classic comedy, Joe Pesci is hilarious. Precious was a great film and eye opening experience about a young woman struggling against poverty and abuse and the struggle to succeed against those odds. An uplifting film to say the least.

.

.

.

State the title of the song and meaning.

GALLERY OF FOOLS. As I previously mentioned, the gallery to me is all my experiences being wrapped up and the foolish part is basically about experiences that when I look back were foolish.

.

.

.

State the title of the album.

Well hopefully we will find the support and get it finished. The name I chose is UNDEFINED. I chose this title because I don’t like the idea of being put into any type of genre or box as it were. Music is as I said is music. Put what you have out there and let the people enjoy it for the music it is and represents to them…
