Matt Simons – “We Can Do Better” (Official Music Video)
Matt Simons Shares new track “We Can Do Better” And official video!
Released April 4th through [PIAS] Recordings
Matt Simons today shares his new track “We Can Do Better”. A top 10 artist across Europe, this is his first serious foray into the UK and the track is the forerunner for an album, scheduled later this year through [PIAS] Recordings.
Although hailing from California, it wasn’t on home turf where Simons first experienced success. His debut album, “Pieces”, picked up a dedicated audience in, of all places, Holland, and as a result he began traveling over for shows. Although used to playing to small audiences at home he was soon to discover minor celebrity status when invited as a guest judge on a national X-factor type show, his single was also used as the theme for a huge soap opera, and lead to a top 30 selling track of 2013 – outselling the likes of Katy Perry’s “Roar”, laid the base for the next couple of years.
The follow-up album “Catch and Release” saw him writing the majority of it over a three week period, re-locating to Nashville, Los Angeles and Holland with various co-writers that resulted in the title track & the accompanying remix amassing in excess of 300 million streams and hitting platinum & gold status across Europe, Brazil, South Africa, to name a few.
This multi-instrumentalist draws on an extensive jazz and classical background to not only write his own music but to play it too – his music recalls classic song structure, hook-filled melodies coupled with an insightful melancholy.
Speaking of the origins of “We Can Do Better” Matt details “I met up with Emily Warren and Scott Harris, both incredibly accomplished songwriters and we started talking about relationships, specifically marriage. Scott is already married, and I was just about to propose to my girlfriend in the coming weeks. We started discussing articles we’d read about how young people are not jumping into committed relationships nearly as often as previous generations and waiting later and later into their 20s and 30s to get married. With the divorce rate at more than 50%, can you blame them? We decided to write a song of hope for my future fiancée and myself about how “We Can Do Better”.”
Partnered with a simple but brilliant video featuring a group of children, it came to fruition from an idea the director Beatrice Pegard had. Matt explains “In our world of environmental and political chaos, it’s a comforting thought to know that the children are our future and let’s be honest; we need them to deliver more than ever before.”
Matt Simons will be embarking on a series of live dates over the coming months, watch this space…
