Sumner – All That I Am

There’s something very special about Australian enigmatic electronic duo Sumner, consisting of Jack McLaine and Chloe Wilson. The underground newcomers have already played alongside Vera Blue, The Smith Street Band, Montaigne, graced the Falls Festival & Party In The Paddock stages. Earlier in 2018, they released their exciting new single, Pictures, to the Australian market. This dark R&B track examines solitude, and was the first taste of Sumner’s debut EP, All That I Am, a release that explores illness, diagnosis, personal struggle and catharsis, all within Sumner’s own very cool little world.

Since the release they have been awarded the Josh Pyke Partnership and showcased at Big Sound. It’s about to get a whole lot bigger with the release of their exciting new single, Put It Out on Nov 23.

Pictures plays with a wide variety of elegant influences; the duo embrace the production style of Lorde’s first LP, while adding their own distorted pop/R&B stylings reminiscent of Frank Ocean and heavy bass that feels like something off an Arctic Monkeys record. It’s a potent combination that particularly shines on this single, as the duo have skilfully pieced together some seriously eclectic moments to create this one intelligent, mature, hooky song. Reflecting on the inspiration behind the track, Jack and Chloe agree it’s definitely about feeling very alone, “The song was inspired by the feeling of being alone in a packed club full of people. Feeling distant and out of touch with the people around you laughing, dancing and having a generally happy time.”

The EP All That I Am is further proof that Sumner are one to watch. This collection of songs is perfectly unique and completely self-assured, and not only is that very rare for such a young project – it’s precisely what makes them special. All That I Am is effortlessly cool and refreshing, with open vulnerability within the lyrics that overflow atop consistent beds of glowing, pulsating, dexterous production. Jack and Chloe share a little more about the process and the team behind it all, “The EP was entirely self-produced and recorded. We worked with some mates for particular parts such as Shanice Osita Chuku on additional vocals in 45 Roses and Pictures, and Billy Bennett (Save The Clock Tower) on additional guitar for Lover. We also worked with Ross Irwin (The Cat Empire, The Bamboos) for the horn parts on 45 Roses. The EP was mixed by Kevin ‘KD’ Davis (Rihanna, TLC, Destiny’s Child, Tupac) and mastered by Grammy Award winner William Bowden (Gotye, Hermitude).”

Music is the constant thread shared between Jack and Chloe, as they reflect on the theme of the EP and what it was that brought them together, “We used music as a catharsis, with the EP following a story from illness to a cleaner, healthier mind with a change of perspective through the process… We met living in the small town of Launceston and finding each other’s music through mutual friends. We decided to link up to play a one off gig as ‘Sumner’ and we haven’t stopped making music since.”

The Croatian duo of Luka Šulić and Stjepan Hauser, better known as 2CELLOS, return with an all-new album, Let There Be Cello, set for release October 19 via Sony Music Masterworks.  A follow-up to the 2017 release of Score, Let There Be Cello finds the pair exploring a diverse catalogue with their signature boundary-breaking playing style.

“We’ve always said we want to break down pre-conceptions about the cello and the boundaries around musical genres,” says 2CELLOS on their latest project.  “This album demonstrates that. We take inspiration from all sources, from pop smashes to timeless classical music, from classic rock through to our enduring love of film music. This album has the lot – including some 2CELLOS’ originals. There are no rules, just let there be cello!”

Co-produced by Šulić and Hauser themselves as well as Filip Vidovic, Let There Be Cello is a showcase of 2CELLOS’ exceptional talent for reinventing the music of any genre. The collection includes their take on the latest pop hits, including Ed Sheeran’s “Perfect” and “Despacito” by Luis Fonsi, a fan-favourite rendition that has garnered over 30 million views on 2CELLOS’ YouTube alone.  Known for bringing their explosive playing style to some of rock’s biggest anthems, 2CELLOS make no exception on Let There Be Cello, which features favourites “Eye of the Tiger” by Survivor and The White Stripes’ iconic “Seven Nation Army,” which the pair most recently performed on-field to open May’s UEFA Champions League final in Ukraine.  Taking their classical instrumentation to new heights, 2CELLOS round out the newest album with everything from celebrated classics (“Imagine” by John Lennon, “Hallelujah” by Leonard Cohen) to never-before-heard original compositions (“Concept2,” “Cadenza”) for a listening experience unlike any other.

Giving fans a preview of what to expect from the group’s latest chapter, 2CELLOS released a brand-new visual for their rendition of “Vivaldi Storm.”  Filmed in their native Croatia, the video finds Šulić and Hauser performing in the center of a rock quarry.  With explosive lighting and dynamic camerawork, the visual perfectly mirrors the exhilarating drama and suspense of the Vivaldi composition, culminating in a climactic onslaught of rain as the performance comes to an end.

The 2CELLOS will be on tour in Australia November 23rd Perth, November 24th Melbourne, November 26th Adelaide, November 28th Sydney, November 30th Gold Coast and December 2nd Brisbane.

Sony Music Entertainment Australia are excited to announce that The Kingdom Choir’s debut album STAND BY ME is released physically today. The choir arrive in Sydney next week to embark on a run of promotional activity which will include a performance at the Closing Ceremony of the Invictus Games Sydney 2018, presented by Jaguar Land Rover at Qudos Bank Arena on 27 October 2018.

Following their acclaimed performance of ‘Stand By Me’ at the Royal Wedding on 19 May 2018 The Kingdom Choir have captured the eyes and the ears of the world, landing them a record deal with Sony Music UK. The album’s diverse track listing includes ‘Stand By Me’ as well as a cross section of classic and contemporary vocal driven hits including Australian anthem ‘You’re The Voice’ (John Farnham), ‘Halo’ (Beyoncé) ‘All Of Me’ (John Legend) as well as ‘Blinded By Your Grace Part 2’ (Stormzy). The album also features a brand new, emotionally powerful ballad written by members of The Kingdom Choir called ‘Chases’.

The choir was founded in London 1994 by award-winning conductor Karen Gibson. The group of singers from in and around London draw from various Christian traditions and are dedicated to creating a sound that demonstrates the community they share through their warm energy and enthusiastic performance. Prior to performing in front of nearly 2 billion people at the Royal Wedding, the largest audience The Kingdom Choir had performed…

Karen Gibson comments “The Kingdom Choir are absolutely delighted with the journey of the past few months! It’s been a roller coaster, but we wouldn’t have it any other way – first, the honour of being able to sing at the Royal Wedding, and then the thrill of being signed to Sony! It’s like an un-dreamt dream – one that you wouldn’t even consider, because you never thought it could happen to you. We’re very grateful and very excited about what’s to come in the next few months too…”

Invictus Games Sydney 2018 Chief Executive Officer Patrick Kidd OBE said the organising committee is thrilled to have secured such an exciting line-up for the closing celebration. “The Invictus Games Sydney 2018 Closing Ceremony will be a chance to acknowledge the tremendous achievements of the competitors, their family and friends. Not only for all they have achieved throughout an incredible week of sporting competition, but for all they have overcome on their individual recovery journeys,” said Kidd. “We are very proud to have some of the best home-grown Australian talent and international acts on board to help celebrate the end of a fantastic week.”
