Alphabet Backwards – Oh Me Oh My

Alphabet Backwards’ ethos is simple: To champion the noble art of Pop music, dancing all the way. It’s infectious, and puts a smile on your face. It’s a summery, joyous, happy-go-lucky affair, punctuated with an irresistible synth buzz and hooks aplenty. After all, Pop is not a dirty word.

The band grew around the song writing of James Hitchman. One man and his guitar can only go so far on his own, so he recruited people he enjoyed playing with. Josh and Paul had played in previous bands with him, so there were no problems on that front. Bob Tom was pretty easy to find too, he was working as a church organist just down the road from Josh, whose sister was finally enlisted after James heard her singing in the shower. They’ve put the ground work in developing an enthusiastic and lively fan-base in Oxford, and the word is spreading fast.

A mini album and 3 ep’s in a year followed and radio play on BBC Radio 6, 2 and even Radio 5 live before singing with Highline Records and releasing the debut album Little Victories – produced by Brian O’Shaughnessy at his studio in Walthamstow. He is a man responsible for Screamadelica by Primal Scream and, more importantly, Star Trekkin by the Firm.

Touring and festivals in Spain before a slight break for medical reasons including a diagnosis of epilepsy by the lead singer James which in turn offered new inspiration and material for the new self-written, records and produced 2nd album Friends, Lovers and empty beds.

More!

Friends, Lovers and Empty Beds – (named because at the end of every night we all go home to a friend, a lover or an empty bed) is the 2nd album by the Oxford band Alphabet Backwards.

Written over 3 visit’s to Buckhouse farm in Dorset here the band found a holiday home where the owners did not mind them setting up their instruments and self-recording and producing the album surrounded by rows of fields and a Llama Farm. Eleven songs touching on varying subjects but with a common denominator: relationships.

Whether this is between two people or, more often than not, on Friends, Lovers and Empty Bed’s the coming to terms and living with Epilepsy following a late diagnosis in life of lead singer and songwriter James Hitchman. Mastered by Jimmy Hetherington at Shonk Studios…
