The Sowell Family – It’s Not Christmas
The Sowell Family is a dynamic young group based out of the mountains of east Tennessee. From their Knoxville home, the band travels across the globe sharing their brand of bluegrass music with adoring fans.
Like many family groups, they began when the oldest children were much younger in Texas, and they have now grown into mature young musicians.
Last year they won the KSMU Youth in Bluegrass Band contest at Silver Dollar City and were signed to Poor Mountain Records.
Their high-energy stage show features a mix of bluegrass and Gospel music and is winning them new fans around the world.
The siblings range from 22 to 12 years in age, starting with eldest brother Jacob on banjo, followed by Joshua on guitar, Naomi on bass, Abigail on mandolin, John-Mark on fiddle, and Justus on dobro. Jacob, Joshua, and Abigail handle the bulk of the vocal responsibilities with their mother, Cindy, being featured on special selections. Most importantly, the band takes their motto seriously. The Sowell Family is most certainly, “Bluegrass with a Mission.”
