Share your life story with us.

We’ve been performing together since school when we were about 15 and in the same music class. We performed in an all-girl rock band.

When we all went to university, it was hard to keep up practicing but Naz and I were still keen to write and play music together.

We experimented with an acoustic sound and it worked really well. We’ve since written and released our debut EP, In Limbo, in 2017. The response to it was great – we were chosen as ‘Track of the Week’ by BBC Introducing 3 counties and invited to play live on the show.

We are currently writing our follow up EP and gigging around London and Brighton.

List the names of those that have supported you so far in your music career and use this opportunity to thank them.

We’d love to thank Paul, our producer, for helping us out with our songs and the many hours put in in the studio.

We’d also love to thank Philip (Ella’s dad) for all his help with our graphics.

Finally, thank you to all of the gig organizers who have put us on their bill and paid us a fee for it – a rarity in emerging music circles nowadays.

Narrate your experience while recording in the studio or while touring.

We aren’t the sort of musicians who come in with a finished product and record it in one take.

We spend a lot of time refining and changing up our song. A lot of inspiration comes to us in the studio!

.

.

.

Discuss your songwriting.

There is no one way we write songs, we write in a variety of ways – sometimes together and sometimes separately.

Recently we’ve tried writing in a more structured way, really deciding what to say in each verse and the chorus.

We’ve also done a few writing sessions which have been useful.

.

.

.

Elaborate on your future projects.

Well at the moment we’re writing songs for our follow up EP.

We are taking things in a slightly different direction musically.

We have a new electro drum pad we’re trying out, along with our loop pedal and electric guitar.

.

Tell us what you are doing to increase your fan base.

Gigging as much as possible and attending gigs/music events.

Networking in music is key!

.

.

.

Tell us that point in time you wanted to give up on your music career.

Happens all the time!

The music industry is hard and trying to ‘make it’ can be frustrating.

It’s important to just enjoy it and not put too much pressure on yourself to have “made it”.

.

.

.

Go into detail on how you make your instrumentation or melody.

It’s hard to go into detail but mainly just practicing a lot and listening to a LOT of music, including different styles and genres.

Then just jam away and see what happens!

.

.

.

Tell us your favourite genre of music.

Hard to say one genre! We love acoustic and folk of course, but are both quite into rock and New wave too. We even put the odd metal track on now and again.

.

.

.

Elaborate on this song.

Wake Up America! (Ban the Gun) is about the issue of gun violence in America and the need for stricter legislation, namely outlawing guns completely.

We drew inspiration from two tragic, yet, contrasting incidents from 2017, to subvert the notion that “guns don’t kill people, people kill people”: the accidental shooting of a 7-year-old by his younger brother who mistook the gun for a toy, and the mass school shooting in Parkland, Florida that took the lives of 17 people.

As easy access to and normalization of guns persists, young people in America are leading the movement to push for change.

Wanting to capture their anger and bravery, we make reference to March for our Lives, led by the students from Stoneman Douglas in Parkland, Florida.

.

.

Discuss digital distribution and streaming.

Digital distribution is great in the sense that you can have your song on loads of different platforms at the click of a button so your music is very easy accessible.

However, to get it in front of the right people, you need to promote, promote, promote!!

.

.

.

Tell us numerous ways that artists can boost their revenue.

Discuss fees and payment with gig promoters; don’t assume you won’t be paid.

Look into syncing and PPR/PRS.

Send your song to radios etc. and ensure you can receive your royalties.

We highly recommend music publishers, Sentric, for this.

.

.

.

Go on at length on what it takes to write a hit song.

Couldn’t tell you the secret formula – can anyone? But I would say it’s all about having a catchy hook that is memorable and repetitive, whilst adding in new bits and pieces to keep the listener interested.

Lyrics should touch people in some way or another but melody is KEY!

.

.

.

State your artist’s name and elaborate on it.

Naz & Ella – Not much to elaborate on, it’s just our names.

We debated on coming up with a proper band name but our names do just have a ring to them.
