State your reason for choosing music as a career.

G9’s aim is spreading love and positive attitude towards people, life and nature.

Music is something that we always loved, something that unites people, and we feel that we can reach many people through music.

.

.

.

Tell us how you write the lyrics to your song.

We write the lyrics and music together, simultaneously. It comes to us as a concept. The music kinda whispers the theme of the song and helps us create lyrics.

Sometimes personal experience or emotions are the reason for a song to appear. In that case, the lyrics help us create the right music for a song.

One of today’s stand-out Russian indie groups, G9 is the perfect blend of love, power and positive vibes. Full of energy and fun, they reinterpret electropop and indie rock in their very own brilliant style.

The band has shared a stage with Fall Out Boy, won the “Become an Ultra Music artist” national contest.

G9 got radio rotation in Russia: Ultra, Maximum, Radio radio, Strana FM, Moscow FM and in the USA: WVIP FM. G9 music videos may be spotted on 2×2, Berlin and Nashe TV.

The song ‘Don’t Fall Apart’ was included in the American collection ‘Wanna Party! Vol.1’. The song ‘The End Is the Beginning’ is presented in b612 – mobile app No.1 for creating selfies in China.

The music video “iBitch” was screened at the Berlin Video Music Awards.

G9 has three official releases, including the song “Break”, recorded together with the American actor Philip E Jones.

In 2018 the song “Wannabe” was in the Porsche GT2RS commercial with Maria Sharapova and Mark Webber.

In September 2018 G9 had their first European tour and successfully played 6 concerts in Germany.

G9:

Vocalist Aspi is the sexy frontwoman and the author of the lyrics, and the positive vector of the band.

Max Michael is the music producer for G9 and the guitarist.

Bassist Alex D also does excellent back vocals on stage.

Drummer Andy Barique also does the percussion.

Discuss your life outside the music world.

G9 is a big part of our lives, but we got quite different interests: Aspi enjoys traveling and designing clothes, Max Michael has a successful IT project, Alex D is into action sports like snowboarding, kayaking, and camping, and Barique runs his own electronic project.

.

.

.

Discuss your music career.

We are from different parts of Russia, Aspi was born in the Urals; the guys are from central Russia.

We are moving towards international recognition in order to present Russian culture and kind Russian people to the world.

We speak good English and we share the progressive values, so for us, it is very essential to deliver true Russian nature: caring, loving and beauty.

We are recording an EP album featuring some great reggae, hip-hop and dancehall guest stars to make an outstanding mix-culture music to share our love with the world.

.

.

.

Elaborate on your artist’s name.

In stellar classification, based on their spectral characteristics, G9 is a yellow dwarf star, like the Sun, but of slightly different color and intensity.

G9 means for us “new undiscovered home, that we are looking for in the future”, something tempting and new.

G9 for us means the look into the far future that helps us evolve.

List your five favourite music videos with reasons.

Marshmello ft. Bastille – Happier (Aspi) – because it is the most emotional and powerful story in a music video I’ve seen lately. I can’t really watch it again because I already start crying on the episode when the girl gets the yellow bow.

G9 – Be My Boy – this music video looks good. We filmed at night at the construction site, at the abandoned depot next to some homeless people who we didn’t mean to disturb, in the coldest winds of Moscow Spring, also the guards of a shopping mall thought we’re illegally trying to capture the mall’s parking lot. So many crazy memories…

Kygo, Imagine Dragons – Born To Be Yours (Max) – because it has an awesome story that can make an amazing movie.

Ленинград — Патриотка | Leningrad — I’m a true patriot (Alex) because it displays all stereotypes about Russians in a funny and entertaining way.

OutKast – Ms. Jackson (Barique) – because it’s a great track, very atmospheric clip and the owl!

.

.

.

Tell us your source of inspiration.

People, especially great people who show love for humanity or help the science progress, like Michael Jackson, Bill Gates, and also our fans who are great examples of positive-minded, kind and humble people. Music – lots of new and old great music. Emotions and happiness.

.

.

.

Tell us your experience on dealing with fans.

We performed in Russia and in Europe. I think, that the fact that we perform in English, helps us to get the best, educated and most positive audience.

So far the reception was great everywhere.

.

.

.

Elaborate on the recording of this song.

Soft in the Head – was written in two hours as inspired by the talk with the parents.

We recorded the vocals at Igor Sandler music studio, at one go two weeks after the song was created.

All the instruments were recorded at various Moscow studios.

The song was mixed in Sweden and mastered in the US.

T.R.U.L.U.V. – this is more of a memoir about the long-distance love, based on Aspi’s experience and some of the people’s lives she knew about.

The song was created within a week. The vocals were recorded, and after that, the song was completely rearranged. Everything was recorded in Russia and mixed in the US.

Mastering happened in Sweden.

.

.

.

Tell us your future projects.

Say Da – a cool dance pop / dancehall Summer song featuring a reggae / dancehall star, also Aspi will be on a riddim album that comes out in May. G9 will also release a music video and EP in Q2 2019.

.

.

.

List the names of those that have supported you so far.

Marc Jabba St Omer – G9’s manager and visionary; Lance Tennyson – a great marketing mind; our fans, like Maria, Serj, Michael & Dan from Moscow; Malvina Velikova – the artistic director at Let’s Rock Bar); Serj Tinyanski, who supports our music with his amazing music videos

.

.

.

Tell us your point of view on vocal tuning.

It’s the necessary evil, but you can always tell who’s good and who’s not.

.

.

.

Tell us your thought on quality and quantity for the release of songs.

Just do good music, don’t be afraid to tell people about it, and people will love it. We choose quality over quantity.

.

.

.

Tell us your viewpoint on comparing music career to non-music career.

We think that you should treat your music as a career. It is not enough to create music; you have to be responsible, daring and very reliable to get success, same as in every career.

.

.

.

Tell us your opinion on categorizing music into genres and sub-genres.

We think it is pointless especially today when everything is so mixed, and crossover songs become No. 1 hits. Music equals emotion, everything is being said with that.

.

.

.

State the genre you despise most with reason.

We don’t categorize music by genres. There is no reason to despise any genre. If you don’t like it – don’t listen.

.

.

.

List your five favourite movies with reasons.

Back to the Future (Aspi) – because it is very positive, futuristic, fun and inspiring and it is my favourite childhood movie.

Interstellar (Max) – because it is grandiose, eternal and inspiring to become better.

John Carter (Aspi) – because it is so beautiful, dreamy and unusual.

The Shawshank Redemption (Alex) – because it is just the best.

Revolver by Guy Ritchie (Barique) – because you can review it endlessly and always discover something new. Generally, any movie by Guy Ritchie.

.

.

.

State the title of the song and the meaning.

Soft in the Head means childish, stupid. We chose this title because we think it is in a way noble, to keep your inner child and never grow old and boring.

Be true to yourself, be childish, have fun, and everything will be fine.

T.R.U.L.U.V. stands for True Love because the love we share in this song is so big and selfless it needs a unique name.
