Discuss your existence.
Based in Perth, Western Australia and I am a father of three children. Coming from a computer science background, I love everything about music technology: software, hardware, electronics, audio engineering, control voltages, and even engineering theory.
State your favorite genre of music and your reason.
Electronic – I love synthesizers, drum machines, and samplers.
Tell us your experience as a musician.
I started playing the piano as a young boy and have always loved the keys.
I first played a Yamaha DX7 in the 1980s and my love for synthesizers started.
I purchased my first synthesizer in the mid-1990s – a Roland XP workstation and slowly accumulated my studio hardware gear list of today.
Today I produce, perform and release commercial albums. I also run a YouTube channel.
Tell us the theme of your work.
My music invites feelings of relaxation, escapism, and dreamscapes.
I believe that music is meant to be felt, it should give you a fizzy feeling: traveling up your spine and tingling your cheeks.
Name the people behind your success and thank them on this platform.
I’m a solo operator at this stage. My thanks go to my family for their support.
Tell us your future goals.
The world will let me know where they want me to be. I’m more than happy for them to share their experience with me. The journey is mutual.
Share your press release and reviews with us.
Elaborate on how you think your music is inspiring your fans.
I love to create atmospheres where people can chill out and have space to think. We all have such busy lives these days, it is really important to relax our minds so we can enable those dreams to come through.
Analyze the transformations you have discovered so far in the music industry.
There’s such a diverse platform where we can all discover music these days. Online, in games, in films even on YouTube. As a result, we are exposed to many emerging genres and ideas. The experience is truly amazing.
State the artists you cherish most and your reason.
Jean-Michel Jarre is probably the artist that started my love for synthesizers and electronic music.
New Order gave me such a different perspective to music creation away from the popular mainstream.
Kraftwerk allowed me to be different and quirky – exploring sounds and ideas without question.
Vangelis showed me how to create dreamscapes and flourish feelings.
Elaborate on how you develop your melody.
The melody isn’t the beginning of my creative process. I develop from a sound design idea, based on unique synthesis or sample mangling. It then transforms into a melody and a beat.
Tell us if you enjoy collaborating with other artists.
I’m currently looking at working with some vocalists. It has been an amazing experience so far.
Brief us your opinion on making music that makes people dance or making the music with a genuine message that inspires them.
Dancing is so important for us to move and feel free with the music guiding us. I love music that tells a story, paints a feeling, or designs an ideology. These songs become keepsakes to people, who cherish them for memories of time and place.
Explain how you put instruments together.
I work with many hardware instruments in the studio. A lot of my work is by trial and error – combining gear with other gear that isn’t the usual marriage. I like to use synthesis and sampling to mangle my ideas further.
Discuss the use of instrumentation as background music.
My biggest love is background music – I’m the background guy! No seriously, I’m in my element doing just instrumentation!
Elaborate on how you develop your instrumentation.
I work with layering concepts. It has to fit with each other creating a stereoscope of spacial audio candy. The sounds merge and interact with each other to create a feeling, an emotion, and a beat.
Go into detail on the recording of this song.
I recorded ‘Forever’ in my studio here in Perth – called “The Geekery”. This is my place in the creative process. It began as a jam session and recorded as I go. I then laid out the ideas in a DAW and mix/master from there. I have a fairly extensive amount of outboard and recording gear – I really like the sounds of certain mixers and pre-amps. It all adds to the overall feel.
Discuss your sound.
I remember that I’d just purchased a new Moog synthesizer – and fell in love with it immediately.
The sound is grounded around some strong tones generated from the Moog. It has a purposeful, larger-than-life “analog” electronic sound.
State your artist’s name and elaborate on it.
Ranzee – derived from my name Ranz – not much more than that!
