LIVING ON UNIVERSAL DENIAL (L.O.U.D.) is an indie rock, alternative pop / rock band formed in 2015 and took their name out of a statement for those who believe there’s no absolute reality or truth, only perceptions and opinions.

Since 2015, L.O.U.D. have appeared in many live stages, festivals and radio stations in Europe and UK.

In 2015 after winning a country-wide competition amongst other unsinged acts, L.O.U.D. played live in one of the biggest Music and Camping festivals in Europe, the 37th River Party alongside names like James Arthur and other international acts.

2016 was a very busy year with many live performances and a lot of songwriting. In the highlights of that year is the honor to be chosen as an opening act to one of the greatest bands in the world ‘Explosions In The Sky’ performing in front of a big audience!

Throughout 2017 the band gigged regularly and started recording demos of their original material.

In 2018 the band signed a record and publishing deal with the UK based indie record label ‘The Sound of Everything’ and released their first single ‘WE GET AWAY’ in late April 2018.

In March 2019, the band released their second single entitled ‘SCARS’ and have embarked on a series of live shows around UK and Europe to promote it.

Tell us how you build up the tune for this song.

We wanted to have a strong anthemic tune that would build up towards the chorus but at the same time having deep and lower lyrics in the verses to indicate the emotions of the person who tells his story to the audience.

.

.

.

Tell us the best means of becoming a famous artist and selling more records.

In our mind there’s no recipe in becoming famous, music business is just like any other business. You need to have a very good product (in our case the songs) and provide good services (in our case live performances) and hope that people will eventually pick up on what you’re doing and start supporting you.

.

.

.

Tell us how fans are reacting to your music.

We currently have a small yet loyal following which is gradually increasing as we release new songs and move to new music markets. They tend to be very emotional and passionate about our music and especially on our live performances. And they even sometimes demand more new music to be released from us.

.

.

.

Explain how to deal with fear on stage.

Each band member deals with it in a different way but in general we don’t have stage fear as a band, all members are very confident in what they are doing on stage as we always try to be very well prepared before each show.

.

.

.

Tell us your point of view on the quality of production of today’s songs to old songs and point out what you think has changed.

We always try to come up with better productions with each new release and we try to work with producers and engineers that suit our style and know our sound.

With each release we take feedback from various people (audience and professionals) and we then try to make things better in the next release.

We’d say in general simplicity and knowing what you’re aiming for is the key to a good quality in the production.

.

.

.

Tell us any interesting experience in your music career that is significant.

We tend to learn from the unfortunate situations, e.g. when we performed in an empty venue or worked with a bad professional.

In music business more so than in other industries perhaps there is a lot of people who tend take advantage of young artists and bands and in this respect, it is very easy to get hustled.

We had such experiences in the past and in this respect, we now tend to be very careful.

.

.

.

Tell us how you come across the lyrics of this song.

The band guitarist and main songwriter has written the lyrics on the song and has taken inspiration from his own experiences in life as well as observations of how couples behave within long term relationships and marriage.

In fact, he wrote the lyrics of the song in probably 15 minutes and brought the song complete in the band practice and then the rest of the band contributed on specific parts.

We had to trim down some parts of the lyrics however as it would otherwise be too long.

.

.

.

Tell us your best means of expressing yourself.

Music of course and from the way each one of us plays their instruments in live performances and recordings.

We also have other interests as people, as most of the guys in the band are educated at a university level.

.

.

.

Tell us your opinion on using music to deliberate on issues affecting people like corruption, immoralities, politics and religion.

We are very keen on writing about social and political issues that affect us and in this respect in some way or the other almost all our songs deal with issues like life, death, love, hate, immortalities, immigration, corruption, politics, religion and inner search.

Even if a song sounds like dealing with love or romance, there’s almost always a hidden meaning underneath.

.

.

.

Discuss how you plan to create a timeless music that your fans can cherish forever.

We always write music and lyrics we feel we like first and foremost. In fact the music we play is the one we would like to listen to. We have come into the world of music creation because there are things we needed to express and wanted to find a way of doing it.

We believe that once you write strong music that affects you as a person then other people will pick up on it and mark them at a specific point of time.

.

.

.

List the names of individuals you can point out as legends and state your reasons.

Too many and the list would be endless. But certainly, classic acts like The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, The Clash, The Police, etc. are legends for us since if it wasn’t for them then we wouldn’t be here.

.

.

.

Tell us your viewpoint on discriminating.

We are very liberal and democratic band so for us this term doesn’t even exist.

.

.

.

Tell us your favorite books and state your reason.

As a band have different tastes when it comes to books and literature. We’d say that we most likely prefer to read classic literature rather than modern or fictional novels.

.

.

.

Tell us what triggers your creativity.

Sometimes very sad events or very happy events in our lives, – and sometimes even day to day observations in real life.

Some of us are even triggered by new gear like guitars, FX pedals or synths.

.

.

.

Tell us how you generate musical ideas for your composition.

Most of the times, it is a spontaneous process and might be things that we always have in mind and need to come out at some point.

Some other times might be that the music is somehow created and then a chorus comes in mind. The song is then built around that.

.

.

.

Tell us your greatest song and state the reason.

‘Fast Car’ by Tracey Chapman is a great song as it speaks the truth in a simple yet very effective way. It is great story telling at its best!

.

.

.

Tell us how you compose your song.

This hasn’t been a spontaneous process as we wanted to kind of continue the story from our previous single and go even further as the young couple of ‘We Get Away’ transitions into a more mature relationship.

.

.

.

Elaborate on the song.

We wanted to write a song for today’s relationships and how men and women are sometimes bounded by society’s rules and behaviors within long-term commitment and marriage.

Most of the times many people feel trapped as they don’t want to break their marriage or long – term relationship because of family and society’s ‘rules’ and at the end they stay in it feeling miserable and unhappy.

.

.

.

Elaborate on your artist name and the title of the single.

LIVING ON UNIVERSAL DENIAL took their name out of a statement for those who believe there’s no absolute reality or truth, only perceptions and opinions.

‘SCARS’ is the title of our single and its title refers to the psychological scars a person has from unfulfilled desires and oppressive emotions.
