LOOSELEAF is Anthony Marone and Wesley Edwards. They started in 2013, writing vibes in their tiny 200 square foot apartment in Hermosa Beach, and landed in New York for their second album.

Paper Cuts explores beats from beaches to cities and willfully transport you with each song.

Paper Cuts is available on iTunes, Spotify, and all major platforms.

Tell us how you build up the tune for this song.

‘Breakdown’ is the closing song off Looseleaf’s sophomore album, Paper Cuts.

The quirky single mixes beach vibes, urban beats, and tight harmonies to create a one-of-a-kind sound.

Lyrically, Looseleaf continues their themes of pain, pleasure and the struggles of substance abuse.

‘Breakdown’ is all about smiling through the pain… or is it about feeling pain in the smile? This song will make you feel like you’re losing your mind.

.

Tell us the best means of becoming a famous artist and selling more records.

The most important thing is to trust your instincts and be unabashedly yourself.

.

.

.

Tell us how fans are reacting to your music.

Since we started Looseleaf back in 2013, we’ve considered our music to be a journey. After releasing “Paper Cuts,” it became abundantly clear people were with us for the long haul.

.

.

.

Explain how to deal with fear on stage.

Having both come from a musical theatre background, we’ve learned that the audience is on your side – they want you to succeed!

Nerves are inevitable and can either hinder or propel you. We choose to let them propel us! Use that energy for good, honey!

.

.

.

Tell us your point of view on the quality of production of today’s songs to old songs and point out what you think has changed.

Music is always changing. That’s what makes it phenomenal! It reinvents itself every day.

We believe that what makes a timeless song is not always about the production quality as much as it is about great content.

A good song is a good song, no matter how you hear it. Some of the best music can be made in a studio apartment, with one guitar and a single voice. It doesn’t take much! That’s why some of the greatest music is from the past. Its content withstands the test of time.

.

.

.

Tell us an interesting experience in your music career that is significant.

The first time we performed live was absurdly nerve-wracking and borderline hilarious.

We’d been practicing for weeks on how to perform our music with just a ukulele – which was cool because it gave us an opportunity to look at our music in a different way.

We’re primarily electronic, so using a live instrument was a challenge.

But we performed at a bar in Los Angeles with a line-up of other inexperienced musicians.

It was adorable and we all had each other’s support. Some people played live, others played with soundtracks or even acapella. We were like our own class that night. It was endearing and exhilarating.

.

.

.

Tell us how you come across the lyrics of this song.

‘Breakdown’ was written as a result of the frustrations with living in New York City.

The lyrics were created as an expression of accepting and coping (and times failing) with anxiety.

It’s not easy out there, so finding the best ways to understand and embrace your fears and frustrations is important to staying healthy. “Breakdown” is our therapy.

.

.

.

Tell us your best means of expressing yourself.

Music of course! And food. Food is FANTASTIC.

.

.

.

Tell us your opinion on using music to deliberate on issues affecting people like corruption, immoralities, politics, and religion.

Our music is always influenced by what’s going on in the world and our personal lives. At the end of the day, we are an engaged gay couple who like to write about issues pertaining to the LGBTQ+ and other communities fighting for their rights.

.

.

.

Discuss how you plan to create a piece of timeless music that your fans can cherish.

Forever. Being yourself is always timeless. We try to stay unique and true to ourselves.

.

.

.

List the names of individuals you can point out as legends and state your reasons.

The Beatles – They evolved with the times and created a sound that no one had heard before.

.

.

.

Tell us your viewpoint on discriminating.

We can’t believe there is still discrimination in this world. It’s an unfortunate aspect to life that so many people still deal with.

Being gay, we both have felt the fear of being discriminated against.

We treat others how we wish to be treated, and can only hope that one day we can learn to live together in peace.

.

.

.

Tell us your favourite books and state your reason.

The Wizard of Oz has always been one of our favorite books. We love the theme of brain vs. the heart and what “home” means.

.

.

.

Tell us what triggers your creativity.

Fear – It’s something that we both can feel so deeply, so taking a negative feeling and using its energy towards being creative promotes positivity. It’s how we’ve learned to cope.

.

.

.

Tell us how you generate musical ideas for your composition.

This may sound totally insane, but we actually sit in silence…

We try and tune into the sounds that are all around us and listen to what noises our thoughts and emotions make.

.

.

.

Tell us your greatest song and state the reason.

“Coffee” off our first album “Paper Planes” was a real turn around for us. Its production influenced every sound in our sophomore album.

“Paper Cuts” allowed us to showcase that sound and establish ourselves as unique artists.

.

.

.

Tell us how you compose your song.

Teamwork! Wesley handles most of the lyrics and Anthony deals primarily with production.

After eight years of being in a relationship, we’ve certainly learned how to bounce ideas off each other.

The most important thing is to listen to each other, accept criticism, and work together to create a perfectly nuanced sound.

.

.

.

Elaborate on the song.

“Breakdown” was a huge accomplishment for us. It was the first song on the album to be finished but went through the most drastic of changes throughout the remainder of the production.

By the end of the two-year process, the song’s entire production had changed; solidifying that there is no definitive end in a song’s maturity.

.

.

.

Elaborate on your artist name and the title of the album.

The name “Looseleaf” was conceptualized to represent the creativity in our music.

All of our art starts in our mind and ends up on paper. It’s been a really cool branding opportunity for us.

Our first album was called “Paper Planes.” It was all about us discovering our sound and taking flight.

Our latest album, “Paper Cuts,” has more emotional weight as it deals with the struggles of pain and healing.

.

Share your press release and review with us.

“Breakdown really is a sonic description for what a breakdown of knowledge, sensibilities, emotions, and life-ridden cycles of angst could be. Interpretive to the nth degree, the duo of Anthony Marone and Wesley Edwards makes sense of a drive-by of the heart.”

– COMEHEREFLOYD

“Breakdown contains a relatable storyline, dreamy vocals, and vibey instrumentation flavored with beach vibes and indie-pop elements…We recommend adding looseleaf’s ‘Breakdown’ single to your personal playlist.”
