The dynamic vocal tone of Maltese born performer Amber became widely recognized following her representation of Malta in the 2015 Eurovision Song Contest.

Since scooping the maximum 12 points Amber has continued to develop her unique style and sound.

For the past few years, Amber has been under the vocal guidance of Pamela Bezzina.

Amber has taken to the stage across Europe performing at sell-out shows in the UK, Austria, Malta, and Russia whilst duetting with names such as Joseph Calleja alongside Ronan Keating, Gigi D’Alessio as well as Suor Cristina, winner of ’The Voice Italy’ 2014.

In 2015 Amber performed during the CHOGM opening ceremony held in Malta, in front of all the Commonwealth heads of states including Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Charles.

In 2016 Amber was invited to perform for a sell-out audience at the Isle of MTV concert alongside Wiz Khalifa, Jess Glynne, Clean Bandit, Steve Aoki amongst others.

Following this, she went on to top the iTunes and local radio charts with hit singles “Messed Up Love”, “What They Say”, ”Power” and “Warrior.”

Amber has also performed during the Valletta 18 opening as part of the ‘Erba Pjazez’ show.

Amber was also part of the writing team of the official song for the shooting world cup held in Malta 2018 which she performed alongside Christabelle.

Redemption, released November 2016, is Amber’s debut album release.

Amber has recently taken part in the musical ‘Il-Ħanina Maddalena’ where she played the part of Serrafina Danieli.

Name the artists that have influenced you so far.

I have been influenced by many artists in my music. I like to listen to different artists from different genres.

But the most influential artists in my career are Beyoncé, Stevie Wonder, and Etta James.

.

.

.

Mention the name of the artist you can regard as the “Greatest Of All Time.”

Definitely Beyoncé.

Discuss composition.

When writing my music, I try to get inspiration from anything around me, including any experiences which I am going through.

I first come up with the top line. I try out different melodies and see which one suits best my idea and which one is the catchiest.

I always believe that music has to be appealing to the listeners. I will then start with the writing of the lyrics. The topic of the lyrics will be determined as to what I might be going through whether it’s good or bad and what message I would like to transmit. I always want the listeners to relate to my lyrics.

After this is done, I will then work on a very rough demo. What I usually do is play the demo as much as possible, in my car, at the gym or at home.

I take note of any amendments which I would like to make to the track.

The next part is the exciting part.  I head back to the studio to start working on the production together with the producer. This will take quite a lot of time, but it’s super worth it. Once this is ready, the track is good to go. 🙂

Today marks Amber’s comeback. Silent for a while, Amber has been working on a whole new studio album.

Although she kept performing and working in the music industry, Amber was working on her music to release a whole new album later on this year.

This album will be a collaboration with different producers all working to highlight Amber’s particular timber and style.

Through this new release, Amber went back to her roots, finding her true self in music and genre.

This album will be all penned by Amber herself, in a self-exploratory journey through music and life experiences.

Alive, composed by Elton Zarb and Amber at WickedandLoud, is a song about love.

Love has no age, no limit, no races, and no genders and as cliché as it might sound… Love is just love.

The music video, directed by Olwyn Jo, shows a couple who met in a day centre and fell in love.

Each day they exchange little glances, a smile… until they realize that love is never too old… with a cheeky ending.

Elaborate on this song.

Alive is the first track released from my upcoming album. Alive speaks about true love.

Unfortunately, at times society gives us a time restriction on when and where to find love.

Once the time is up, the love is lost. But that is not always the case.

We may find love in a time where it is not accepted – Turning up to be special. And this is what the song is about. Never ever giving up on love…you might be surprised on how it may turn out.

Rate social media and tell us the platform that works best for you in promoting your music.

I use mainly Facebook and Instagram for the promotion of my music. It helps me gain more access to my fans. As well as give my fans an exclusive taste of my busy schedule as well as some behind the scenes juice of musical events I will be performing…

I do believe that social media plays an important part in the artist’s career. It gives the opportunity to the artists to have more direct contact with the fans and vice versa.

.

.

.

State the areas that need improvement in the music industry.

The music industry has gone through various changes due to the great development technology has made. I do believe that artists now have more exposure to expose their music.

But unfortunately, we have lost the true element of what an artist truly is. At times it’s not about the music anymore.

It’s more focused on exposing oneself to social media, being an appealing artist as much as possible.

It’s all about having thousands and millions of views on YouTube.

The rawness in music has been lost, unfortunately, and that needs to come back.

Upcoming artists need to listen to different genres and different artists to get inspired and understand better the passion other musicians and artists had.

.

.

.

Explain how you are getting your songs to stores and getting it to fans.

I’m on all digital stores as well as YouTube and Spotify in order to make it more accessible to listeners. I also promote my music on Facebook and Instagram…

.

.

Tell us how you prepare yourself for a live performance or show.

I like to be super focused before a performance. I do my vocal warm up and eat. I like my tummy to be happy before a performance. Food helps me calm my nerves. I usually stay alone in my dressing room, sitting down quietly. I say a little prayer and getting ready to hit the stage.

.

.

.

Tell us your opinion on frequent releasing of singles or just an album in a while.

It depends on the artists and their fan base. I prefer releasing two or three singles and releasing an album straight after. This helps in creating the hype amongst the fans and listeners. But it all depends on what the artist has in mind.

.

.

.

Mention the name of the artist you will be glad to see the live performance.

I would LOVE to see Stevie Wonder live in concert. I was going to see him in London this summer, but I had to cancel due to music commitments here in Malta. But it’s still a dream.

.

.

.

Tell us the themes of most of your songs.

Most of the themes of my songs are inspirational…most of them are about power, love, and being you.

.

.

.

Discuss your recording.

I’m a perfectionist when it comes to recording. Especially when recording my vocals. I like them to be clean and right. I spend a lot of times taking different takes. Being certain of what you’re doing and confidence play an important part in the recording.

The vocals will reflect on how you are actually feeling, therefore need to mean every-word sung in the lyrics.

I’m also present in the recording of the instruments. I like to get a better feel of what is being recorded by being there.

.

.

.

Tell us how boring or exciting the music career can be.

The music career is a roller coaster of emotions. It’s never boring though.

There are moments where you would be more inspired than at other times.

Music gives me the opportunity to work with various musicians and artists and helps me gain more knowledge and experience.

I get to travel and appreciate different cultures and their music as well as share my music with others. I wouldn’t change my career for the world.

.

.

.

State your artist’s name and elaborate on it.

Amber – Amber Dominique is my original name. However, I found it to be very long and very difficult to remember. So I decided to shorten it and go for Amber only. I like things which are short, sweet and striking. There were no other artists here in Malta with the name Amber so I went for it.
